I feel like the Dung Defender is the most honorable and loyal character i have ever seen. Everytime i listen to his soundtracks, it just brings a feeling of respect into me, for him.
And to think, this is the theme of a guy who's fighting style is literally throwing shit at you. And somehow, this is one of the most epic things in existence.
They somehow managed to make a poo knight the most wholesome and sweet character ever. I hope Ogrim makes some type of reappearance in the series somewhere. Perhaps helping the player in a boss fight similar to Quirrel, or after coming to terms with the loss of his friends forms a roaming band of heroic knights to honor them. Chris Larkin and Team Cherry sure did something right to make me feel emotional over a drawn poo-slinging beetle in a video game.
@Min Ex Ogrim is the Dung / White defender, you are talking about Hegemol actually. Also, it doesn't implies that the maggot killed Hegemol, at all. It is said in the game, the maggots are the weakest creatures of all Hallownest. I don't see one of them killing one of the Five Great Knights, even when they are sleeping. Him succeeding to steal Hegemol's armor is already some incredible feat imo.
@@northchaser5163 He wasn't killed by the maggot...The maggot says he saw him sleeping and wanted the armor, wich is closer to implying that Hegemol either left his armour behind or was already dead, thus seen by the maggot as "sleeping".

Damn, I was already a big fan of the Dung defender's battle music, but this really shows the honour the Defender has. And really, seeing him sad after the fight is just so... heartbreaking...

Everyone died because of something to do with the infection whilst ogrum was in the waterways at his little safe haven from it. At least, what would be considered one during that time. Also, pk probably noticed the loyalty DD has and thought it would be best for him to stay somewhat safe so he can try and rebuild hallownest since he would remember what it is like
"No voice to cry suffering" Ogrim makes me glad about that... imagine having to tell him that his girlfriend and all of his other friends are dead... He's such a lovable guy... I could never hurt him like that... but keeping the truth from him wouldn't make it any less awful... Thankfully, we don't have a choice in this.
I think he already knows that. He's just trying to keep himself happy by ignoring it rather than learn to find happiness despite it. White Defender is him working past the denial that he's the only one of his order left, and once you beat him five times, for every major person in his life that he's lost, including the king he served (albeit more on an emotional level than a physical one as far as he knows) he finally comes to accept that and move on.
1:08 Did anyone notice how this uses Hornet's theme. Both fight with honor! Also both use the Pale King's motif, 1:32, and since the White Defender worked for the Pale King, it makes sense.
This song made me cry during all five fights. Truly a masterclass in storytelling through music. Honor, variance, regret. Such devotion and effort! I have nothing but pure empathy for the Defender and wish to be both as stalwart and upbeat as he someday. Thank you, Christopher

As an oboist, I must say that the oboe is just *_SO_* beautiful. [Oboe solo occurs at 1:32] I love how everything blends together to create this true masterpiece. Christopher Larkin is potentially one of the greatest musicians of all time.

I love the difference between Dung Defender and White Defender. Dung Defender OST sounds so light, clumsy, tad-bit happy just like the Dung Defender fight and his jovial mentality. On the other hand the White Defender OST is heavy, sounds more royal-ish and has a bit of tint of glory - possibly representing the strenght, fierceness, the royalty and the glory Ogrim carried during his prime days as the White Defender. It also has a bit of a sad tune to it because of the whole exiling part of the lore. Love the ost
For me dung defender is the perfect boss he's a type of Beetle which are my favourite bug he's got a great boss theme his boss fight is really fun and he's one of dumbest and weirdest ideas for a boss ever but somehow he's really cool and I love it

I teared up the first time I fought the White Defender and heard this piece. I believe few compositions capture such longing, happiness, sorrow, nobility and decay with such emotional clarity. It was one of the most beautiful moments I've experienced within a video game. Hollow Knight in general is simply one of the best games ever.
You help him come out of his depression. When you beat him, he realises that he's been stuck living in the past, and chooses to move on, be it to Pharloom or somewhere else.

This fight was really tough for me the more times I did it because I didn’t feel like it was truly done until his final form was defeated. Seeing the dung statue of the Knight at the end made it all worth it.

I love how this melds the Dung Defender melodies with the melodies from the Hornet boss theme, as well as instrumentation from the White Palace.. to me this is to signify that this is us fighting Ogrim in his true form - defender of the royal realm of Hallownest (much as Hornet herself is)
I'd be thrilled to see any canon content on the Great Five! I know about Pale Court, but seeing what the knights were like in canon form would be amazing. We don't even really know how Hegemol died, or even if he did.

according to google dung beetles are the strongest animal in the world so ogrim isn't just the best character in hollow knight but also possibly the strongest
It occurs to me that if white defender, more specifically his strongest form, accurately represents DD at his prime, then his raw damage puts him as the strongest bug thus encountered using masks lost per hit. GPZ doesn’t count since his fights are fantasies left by bretta, and all other dream/real bosses naturally fought in game deal a max of 2 masks per hit. No wonder he was one of the five... Note: excluding godhome radiant boss mode
I love how this quotes the White Palace music but where the White Palace is pensive and melancholic, this is triumphant and bombastic. Ogram really is the heart of the King's knights.

I love how this melds the Dung Defender melodies with the melodies from the Hornet boss theme, as well as instrumentation from the White Palace.. to me this is to signify that this is us fighting Ogrim in his true form - defender of the royal realm of Hallownest (much as Hornet herself is)
It feels like such a sensible yet epic transition from the Dung Defender's theme. I love these songs.

according to google dung beetles are the strongest animal in the world
so ogrim isn't just the best character in hollow knight but also possibly the strongest
Actually, beetles in general, but if I'm not mistaken the rhino beetle and Hercules beetle are the strongest!

It occurs to me that if white defender, more specifically his strongest form, accurately represents DD at his prime, then his raw damage puts him as the strongest bug thus encountered using masks lost per hit. GPZ doesn’t count since his fights are fantasies left by bretta, and all other dream/real bosses naturally fought in game deal a max of 2 masks per hit.
No wonder he was one of the five...

I love how this quotes the White Palace music but where the White Palace is pensive and melancholic, this is triumphant and bombastic. Ogram really is the heart of the King's knights.

I just realized this song has leitmotifs from every boss battle that was added into the game through this dlc, you can hear the fligh of the bumblebee sound from hive night and you can hear parts of zote’s theme
