Michelle Yeoh has been good friends with Quentin for a long time. When Kill Bill came out, she asked him how come he didn't offer her a role in the film. His response was.."Who is going to believe that Uma Thurman could kill YOU?"

if that was his worry, why did he cast Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo in Inglorious Basterds.
that was the worst casting choice in the history of movies lmfao. Brads Pitt goes from being overly good-looking fight club, Mr & Mrs Smith, Oceans 11, then he plays some hick ass LT in a WW2 movie about Nazi Germany 😭🤣 quentin was on some serious drugs in 07'

Fun fact: The reason most of the Crazy 88s fight is in black and white is because the MPAA deemed it too gory for a R rating; it would've gotten a NC-17 otherwise. In other international releases it's still in color, and that version is up on TH-cam. Also, Oren Ishii tells The Bride that she hopes she's been keeping up with her training, or she won't last 5 minutes against her. The duration of The Bride vs. Oren? 4 minutes and 59 seconds.

Gogo Yubari, the ultra-sadistic, schoolgirl bodyguard, is a reference, the same actor and character from the Japanese movie Battle Royale (the government kidnaps school kids, they're forced to kill each other until only one is left). The trumpet music you hear as Uma is cycling through Tokyo is from the tv version of The Green Hornet. When Uma refers to Johnny Mo wearing a Kato mask, she is referring to The Green Hornet's sidekick Kato. So many of the short musical cues are from 60s and 70s tv. I was born in '64, so many of the music clips are giving me all sorts of flashbacks.

30:00 The music is the theme song for the grayscale series _The Green Hornet_ from the 60s, which was actually remade as a movie at around 2010.
The yellow jacket is a Bruce Lee reference.
And a much smaller version of the bar exists in Japan.
"The Lonely Shepards" (_Kill Bill Vol.1_ "theme" ) is interestingly a western piece. Slaps.
The initial confrontation between Beatrix and O-Ren is from a freaking western film composed by none other than Ennio Morricone. The lyrics are in English with an extremely heavy Italian accent.
Some of the sound effects from the showdown between the Crazy 88s are included in the soundtrack, as if they're sound bites from AudioJungle or something.
RZA, as in Wu-Tang-Clan, was responsible for some of the (very few) original music and sound effects for the film.
Gogo-Yubari's actress, Chiaki Kuriyama, appears in _Battle Royale_ (2000), which is, or maybe was, Tarantino's favorite film.
38:23 The exaggerated blood effect is apparently a signature movie in Akira Kurosawa films, and was introduced at the final showdown in _Sanjuro_ (1962) when there was a mechanical failure that ended up with blood spraying all over the place.
Santa Esmeralda has other covers related to the Animals, including "The House of the Rising Sun", which is just "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" Vol.2.
Brag: I kind of incorporated the performance for "the Lonely Shepards" into the opening solo for _Spain_ by Chick Corea (aka. Guitar Concerto No.1) in my high school string quartet performance.

I saw A De Palma scene with the Hannah’s nurse scene, Scorsese’s shot with the bikes, anime, long takes during the concert scene, his usual trunk open scene. To me just after PF, but better visually .

She knows it has been four years from the lines on her palm. I thought that was pretty obvious 😂 The lines on our palm adds as we get older. Fact.
The Bride's yellow biker suit is a homage to Bruce Lee's yellow jumpsuit. And the 'jazzy' western music during the driving scene I think it was the theme song of Green Hornet (which Bruce Lee was also in).

Ok so cool story about the band in this film. Their called the "5,6,7,8's" They special in parodying classic American rock and roll, doowhop, rockabilly all that stuff from the 50's 60's 70's and 80's. They've been like this underground Japanese band since 1986 and even been on tour. So Quinten was leaving for the airport in Japan after scouting locations and getting the proper license's to film but passed by an Urban Clothing store and began hearing their music on the store speakers. He was so intrigued by their sound that he immediately asked the store clerk if he could purchase the CD from the store since he didn't have time to look them up in a music store. He pestered the store so much he offered the Manager of the store DOUBLE what the retail price of the CD was and thats how the band got their film cameo and on the CD. After that their song "WooHoo" got picked up for commercials and their song "I'm Blue" got into the UK Top charts. They even got to tour in America because of this film.

a lot of the ideas, and images in this film are heavily influenced by LADY SNOWBLOOD (1973), remarkable film. the song that plays in the final battle with o-ren is the main track from that film - sung by the lead actress meiko kaji.

7:07 - Tarantino is supposedly working on a sequel. The prevailing theory is that it will be about Nikki going after *****.
8:17 - This is the same sheriff from From Dusk Til Dawn and Grindhouse.
17:55 - It's Korean Anime. It's notable for being much more viscerally violent than Japanese Anime.
29:38 - This and the dominatrix from Mel Gibson's Payback are my favorite Lucy Liu rolls (in live action, at least).
30:33 - I think people stopped saying that a few years back.

Please watch Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in the psychological thriller,
"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane." (1962)
One of my all-time favourite movies even though it's before my time.
It reminds me a bit of "Misery," but there are more layers to it.
One of the best psychological thrillers ever made.
Bette Davis is, of course, outstanding, not at all what you'd expect from a 60s movie

Hope you put vol 2 up quickly, I know you've seen it already and I'm interested to see you watch it for the first time as it is kind of different but in some ways it's my favourite of the two. I love Darryl Hannah in this, and the whole scene in the trailer is awesome.
Side note, if a pregnant woman dies or goes into a coma they would definitely try to save it, and if she's heavily pregnant and still alive there's a very good chance the baby would be ok. Although in this scenario it's difficult to imagine the baby wouldn't have been harmed but theoretically yeah.
Also, she looks at her life lines on her hands and deems from that she's 4 years older, although that's not how palm reading works, it's a take on it

Similarities between John Wick and Kill Bill
    1) both have a 4 letter name in them, two 4 letter words each
    2) both have a secret society of assassins
    3) both have an insanely skilled assassin that tried to retire
    4) both assassins lost their family
    5) both assassins go on revenge sprees out of grief
    6) both have old associates help them out of respect
    7) awesome choreography combat of 1 vs 100
    8) cool ceiling height camera shots
    9) both assassins have a notorious nickname
    10) both assassins forced back into the game
    11) both secret societies respect rules and their image
    12) both have a charming old man as the overseer or whatever
    13) protagonists actually get injured a lot
    14) protagonists encounter most difficulty when fighting an old associate assassin
    15) both have a huge brawl in a dancing place with funky music in the back
let me know what i missed

The Motion Picture Association of America also loved the Black and White used during the crazy 88 fight scene because they were gonna give the movie an NC-17 rating unless he did that because of all the blood that was used in the scene. If I remember correctly, In Japan the scene was in full color. Also the snow in the fight between O-Ren and The Bride is actually soap

39:56 the music cue here is most DEFINITELY from anime. I recognize it as very similar to one from Robotech, an adaptation of a few different animes from the early '80s. I think the music from that one was composed by Ulpio Menucci.

Most of the fighting and fountain blood violence in Part 1are based on 60's and 70's Japanese cult films, 'Pinky Violence' revenge films (some are epic), Yakuza gangster films and Zatoichi the blind swordsman films. The soundtrack has songs taken from a few of them.

When she is riding the motorbike the music is from The Green Hornet, also the masks from the crazy 88 are similar tho the one wornn by Kato Kung Lee, played by Bruce Lee... Her Yellow Jumper is similar to the one worn by Bruces Lee in The Game of Death... and I can go on and on...

"It's very anime" Well that, it is.
Way of the Warrior themes, revenge, mysticism around the forge of japanese steel and its poetic meaning, japanese narration, japanese settings, intense rivalry between family/loved ones, black and white sequences with huuge bloodsprays mimicking Manga Panels, even the Hattori and his Sidekick duo being extremely goofy but getting straight into character for the forge of a new sword screams anime trope.
everything here is Tarantino geeking out and generally being a weeb haha

The connection between Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill are more than just it's origin. If you remember in Pulp Fiction, Mia (Uma Thurman) had auditioned for a pilot ab out an all female squad of assassins called Fox Force Five.
"“Fox Force Five.” Fox, as in we’re a bunch of foxy chicks. Force, as in we’re a force to be reckoned with. Five, as in there’s one…two …three…four…five of us. There was a blonde one, Sommerset O’Neal from that show “Baton Rouge, she was the leader. A Japanese one, a black one, a French one and a brunette one, me. We all had special skills. Sommerset had a photographic memory, the Japanese fox was a kung fu master, the black girl was a demolition expert, the French fox’ specialty was sex…"
So depending on the theory you follow, Kill Bill is the movie that came out of Mia's TV pilot or Mia's TV show was inspired by the real life Fox Force Five, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

Also, Hitori Hanzo is played by martial arts legend Sonny Chiba. In True Romance (written by Tarantino) protagonist Clarence Worley meets the love of his life Alabama Whitman at a Sonny Chiba triple feature (Streetfighter, Return of Streetfighter and Sister Streetfighter)
Final trivia: The Japan sequence is packed full of Easter eggs and shout outs to Asian cinema, especially Japanese movies of the 70's. There is however 1 western reference.40:30 when they fight against the blue background is a nod to the final fight in 1986's Highlander, which of course won a Academy Award for Greatest Movie Ever Made.

I don’t care how many times I see it I can sit and watch volume one and two no bathroom break 😂 it’s so good the action is top tier and of course Quentin Tarantino knows how to pick a FIRE cast honestly his movies always have so many great actors and actresses. I also love the big lips up color, the fact you don’t learn her name until later on because it’s kinda out of order, the nurse letting people have sex with her is actually a real issue in the medical world especially with woman in comas they end up sometimes pregnant super sad, love that at the sight of her they knew they fcked up no making sure she was dead for good, I love how even tho it’s seems they all do impossible stuff they still get hurt she’s not just fighting and getting right back up, and I really want that little girl to grow up and seek revenge always felt that would’ve been a fire concept 🤷🏾‍♀️ imagine her and her daughter fighting because they both want to get revenge for their mother. Love the reaction and I don’t know if you notice but the cop and his son is also in death proof and terror planet one thing I love is he uses a lot of the same actors or his extras it’s basically all a cross over in a way
