Hardly anyone has done astrophotography with the tamron 35-150. This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for the good testing. I too now have to work out what I'm selling to pick one up.
Thank you so much for making this video. You are the first person to talk about the use of this lens for astrophotography. I was especially curious about how well it would do on the corners. I’ll be subscribing to your channel. Great job!
Another great video Jake! I am looking forward to getting my lens soon and I'll be heading to Wyoming to shoot it. Thanks again for all the great information!
Very interesting review on the lens , I'm just a drone guy right now but you never know , I'll be waiting for the time lapse of the eclipse video , thanks for sharing
Came here to ask the same thing! I’m considering to pair this Tamron 35-150 F/2-2.8 with an A7IV or the Sony 24-105 F4 G OSS I watched both of your reviews and both lenses look amazing! My usage would be as hobbyist for hybrid video and some stills The advantage for Sony lens is the optical stabilization and you footage was great for handheld while Tamron aperture is unique, and could potentially replace some primes for portrait but for video it most likely would require a big gimbal to have a stable shot or run on catalyst browse. The astrophotography you did was out of this world! Keep up the good job! I’m a new subscriber ! 🤚
I decided to buy the the A7III and today I found and watched your other video for the best lenses for budget and performance. I will primarily be using my camera for street photography, travel, events, and recording gym sessions/interviews. Which lens(es) would you recommend that I add with the 35-150 ?
I was just about to ask if it could replace the 28-75 and you answered that at the end. 😂 Yeah, gotta sell something before I can buy this..... But I want that Sony 14mm also. And you are a brave man going out to the Tailrace & Knik in the recent weather. I didn't even go out for aurora the last couple of weeks because -18f hurts! 😂
Hands down the 35-150 over the 14, the 14 is a pretty niche lens. Unless, if you're doing astro, where you would really benefit from the f1.8 and the dramatic focal length
Great and informative review! Once again I certainly enjoyed these amazing Alaska views. At -8 degrees I would have definitely preferred to stay near the fireplace, instead of going out and making a video too, thank God somebody else does it for me😁
Crap! You just changed my choices....AGAIN! Grrrr. 😱 This lens solves some serious needs with my conversion from Canon to Sony. Another great vid, and I'm going to JOIN. Please consider making some how-to vids for the Skydio. I'm still struggling with mine, though I don't fly it enough. I owned DJI drones over time, but the Skydio has been a new paradigm! Cheers!
I got this lens for travel photography but it's just too heavy to lug around all day. Can you recommend a good "all-around" lens for travel, (that would be decent for landscape, pics of people, etc? I have a Sony A1.
Great video Jake...after watching this, I am now contemplating selling my Tamron 28-75 and 70-180mm for this lens and pairing it w/ the Tamron 17-28mm instead lol
Great video! But I fear it's just too big/heavy to carry around over several hours for landscape photography and/or using it on a tripod for some longer because it has no mount. Perfect event/wedding lens though. 👌
Hey Jake just came across this and had to subscribe right away! Great content and very well presented! I’m considering to have the following as my every day kit (when I can afford them 😅) The Tamron 35-150 The Tamron 150-500 And for wide stuff and Astro the Samyang 24 f1.8 What do you think?
05:50 thank you so much for this!!! I've been looking for this type of test, and wasn't very optimistic to find it because this purpose might be rather untypical for these focal lengths.
Interesting lens. Would you recommend on APS-C (a6600), it basically becomes 53-225 ? Considering I don't usually shoot wide, I feel like f/2.8 at 225 would be awesome. It's kinda big but looks manageable on the smaller APS body.
while that would be interesting and would work I think it would be weird to handle since the lens would out weigh the camera by quite a bit and make it very front heavy if you put it on a tripod
this has better low light performance and slightly sharper image quality plus the buttons and programmability. It's also considerably heavier. If you need to most range then the 28-200 is best for sure but if you want the highest image quality and best low light performance then the 35-150 all the way
As a concert and event photographer, I love this lens. Tamron 17-28 on my A7iii and this on my A7Riii..and with a push in the button, I also have 52.5-225mm. Dont need 3-4 lenses at work anymore :)
when shaking the lens hears how are there loose elements inside it? The lens is not stabilized so you shouldn't hear anything because it doesn't have a stabilizer
On an a7s series camera, you won’t really be seriously judging sharpness with such a low mp sensor. A cheap kit lens will perform spectacularly on a sensor like this. This lens almost seems like overkill for the camera you’re using.
You forgot to add “in your opinion” I do also test with higher MP cameras but you didn’t see any of that in this video because it was well covered by other channels
Of course. Implied. But you have not refuted my argument. I own this lens as well, so I’m not disparaging it. But you have to admit that i have a point. No doubt you still benefit from the wide aperture, but the low mp and good high iso performance of your camera can make use of pretty much any lens.
I was too but I have some small silicone plugs that will seal up the connection and keep it clean. They are very cheap on places like Amazon etc for a pack of 10

I think you are the most remote person in the world who's talking about camera gear. It's wild
never thought about it that way!
That quick timelapse you toss in there is great! Was that at 35 f2?
yes it was
Been waiting for someone to review this lens so thank you, Jake. Man oh man do I want this but I just bought the 28-75 for my A7S.
You're welcome!!

Would you recommend this one over sony 24-105? I'm thinking about switching over from sony to this tamron
If you have the budget sure! This lens is fantastic. That said I still use my Sony 24-105 for most things

Thanks Jake & I love my lens

Badass jake cool moon vibes air2 s army out
Thanks Mike!!
Just got mine, mind is blown
It’s amazing isn’t it
@@JakeSloan low light was impeccable the other night.

Hmmm I just realized I haven’t done any videos about how to use the Skydio!
Excellent Lens and great review. Have you mounted on a gimbal? if YES, how was it?
I haven't mounted it on a gimbal but you would definitely need the RSC 2 RS 2 Weebill 2 or Crane 3 to handle the weight and balance properly
I got this lens for travel photography but it's just too heavy to lug around all day. Can you recommend a good "all-around" lens for travel, (that would be decent for landscape, pics of people, etc? I have a Sony A1.
a good all in one lens for travel is the 28-200 from tamron imo
Great video Jake...after watching this, I am now contemplating selling my Tamron 28-75 and 70-180mm for this lens and pairing it w/ the Tamron 17-28mm instead lol
thats pretty much exactly what I am thinking of doing lol
80,000 WHAT !... LOOKS AWESOME 👍😎.
right???
Sold my older 70-200 F2.8 GM and ordered this lens last week for indoor sports but it is on back order.
dang!
beautiful location! looks like a great lens
It really is and the location is amazing just extremely cold lol
Hi Jake. Have you carried this lens with you for any trips until now? How do you feel so far?
I still love it but only take it with me when I know I will use it due to the weight
Great video! But I fear it's just too big/heavy to carry around over several hours for landscape photography and/or using it on a tripod for some longer because it has no mount. Perfect event/wedding lens though. 👌
Agreed!!
What’s the location of the place? It looks amazing. I wanna go there and take some pictures too
This is in Alaska mostly at the Eklutna trail race

Wouldn't f/2.8 on an APS-C camera become effectively f/4 FF equivalent?
Great Video you got me thinking 💭
Great substitute for primes 35-50-85-105-135 💥
Yeah almost!
How do you think this compares against the tamron 28-200mm?

Agreed and that’s what this lens is perfect for!
it's really really pretty!
thank you!!
I got mine yesterday and your not exaggerating it's incredible on the a7iv I don't even care about any of my other lenses lol
Nice!!!
Honestly the A7Siii’s iso looks pretty decent at 80,000. I think the footage is usable to an extent for maybe travel videos specifically.
yeah I am always surprised at how well it does at insanely high ISO
@@JakeSloan It’s definitely a big step up compared to the 12 year old camera I had before this 😂.
Do u think that this lens is the perfect one for weddings with a7iii?
Yes it is!
@@JakeSloan thank you 🌹
Awesome
Thanks!
Using this on a apsc body -muah! 💋
True
Does the lens have image stabilization?
no it does not unfortunately
Lol always hard to figure out what to sell! Great video!!! I want this lens but yea…..$$$
lol yeah you and I are in the same boat want it but $$$ lol
Does it work with Sony Catalyst Browse?
Yes it does
Is it safe to film -10 celsius?
Absolutely I was well into -26 C in this video
@@JakeSloan oh shoe that's some real cold out there

You will hear the focus system move around if the lens is off (not powered) the same is true for many of my other lenses
I was on your livestream with your leaked fotage
I remember
This is heavy, does it miss the tripod collar when on a tripod?
Not that I noticed
Brother… you could have stopped when you Mention the price. 😂 Thanks for sharing. 😀
Rofl. Truth!
Can this be used on nikon d7000.?
no unfortunately they haven't made this lens for any other camera mounts yet except sony e
awsomeee

What kind of Arcteryx jacket is this ?
This is an ultralight ar jacket
i'm concerned by the weather-sealed of this USB connection.

How many "favourite" lenses you have so far? haha
I have a lot lol
I wasn’t a huge fan of this lens.
Did you try it? It’s definitely not for everyone but I really enjoyed shooting with it
it looks as heavy as sin
it's definitely not a light weight lens
