    Jason Vong takes a look at the HYPEST Tamron lens, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8! The varying aperture of this lens is insane, given the fact that it covers a massive amount of range which makes this incredibly unique! This is looking like a solid alternative for those who don't want to carry both a 24-70mm & 70-200mm. However, for those who are looking for a casual versatile lens, this may not be it as the latest Tamron is heavy! Is it weight worth the tradeoff for massive versatility? Join Jason as he explores Paris to find out!

    Nice to see you in my backyard! I am still waiting for my 35-150. Just today I bought a 50mm 2.5 G so I can start using my (new) A7RIIIa while waiting for Tamron to get these lenses in Europe. For my studio pictures of models I find this lens so good, it made me switch from Canon. In studio I rarely use anything wider than 35, never more than 135mm so a very sharp wide aperture lens nails it.

    I'm very pleased with this lens for event photography. It does cover the range I use the most. It has replaced the 24-105 because it was only good for me during bright daylight events. The AF felt similar to the old 70-200 GM on the A1. At one event I had to carry the Tamron and the old GM and that convinced me to get the GM II (still waiting for that lens). The transition zone for switching camera/lens during an event is what made this combo so nice for my work. It also makes a third camera/lens combo a light carry with a 20 G or 24 GM.

    This pairs really well with the Sony 16-35 or the Tamron 17-27 f/2.8 lenses. So you really just need like a Sigma 150-600 and you will have a lens for basically every situation.....and you can mix in some primes if you want more speed (1.4 or 1.8's)

    Rented this for recent two week road trip visiting national parks, love the flexibility it gave me, but since I was primarily shooting landscapes around f/8 it was overkill for what i needed and was entirely too heavy. I came home and bought the 20-70mm f4 for my next trip.

    Great video Jason. I bought the 28-75G2 to complete my trinity (17-28, 28-75 and 70-180) I am totally happy with what I have. I am going back to wedding photography which I have not done in a while. I am thinking of getting the 20-40 and a 35-150 for a two-lens solution and a replacement for my triple lens set up.

    I own this lens for a few weeks now and have brought it to work (2 Wedding Photoshoots and 1 Wedding Video). I have to say this is the best lens I have ordered from Tamron so far. The weight I can live with as I was so used to carrying around Canon 5D and 70-200. So with the A7 series camera and this lens, it doesn't feel much at all. The only problem I have encountered so far (also happens with the 28-75G2 ) is it cannot lock AF sometimes, even in a stationary subject. it happens so randomly that I cannot find a pattern of the cause. All I did is I took a video and send to Tamron so they can come up with an idea. Other than this problem I think it is a perfect lens for work, and a must bring lens for overseas.

I already own the lens, it replaced my 28-75 Tammy and Sony 70-200 f/4 G so right now my travel kit is this and my 16-35 GM. It's a fantastic lens and I'm looking forward to really getting to travel and do some city walking with it. I was quite jealous of your trip around Paris... it's a lovely, and very photogenic city.

      How do you like it compared to the 28-75?

    • @emtboy9
      @emtboy9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love it so far. Between the 16-35GM, the 28-75 Tamron and the 70-200G, I actually rarely used the 28-75. most of what I shoot is between 16 and 35, and on the longer end past 100mm. The 28-75 is a fantastic lens, especially for the price, and I imagine the new version is even better, so don't get me wrong, it is a great lens. But this one replaces two lenses and is faster all the way to 85mm, and it hasn't left the A7III since it arrived from B&H.

    Hi there! Thanks for this video (and all the stuff on your channel generally)! I'm just starting with photography and got myself an A6600 with a kit lens (18-135mm, F3.5-5.6) and the Sigma 16mm f1.4. I'd like a zoom lens with a wider aperture than my 18-135mm and I'm going in circle comparing the Tamron 35-150mm and the Tamron 70-180 F2.8... One thing I'd like to be able to do is take pictures of my kid playing basketball. The sports halls are usually not well lit and my kit lens is just not fast enough (plus its reach is a little short). Looks like the 35-150 quickly switches to an aperture of 2.8 when zooming in, so I'm kind of thinking that the 70-180 isn't loosing out in this respect... What do you think? Plus my budget is limited (I'm getting into photography as a life crisis hobby ;), not gonna earn income with it), and the few ND filters I own fit a 67mm lens... So, I'm thinking maybe the Tamron 70-180mm now and maybe later on sell my kit lens and replace with with a Tamron 28-75mm. What do you think?

  • @setaside2
    @setaside2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    The 35-150 has become my day to day. I have it set to 270° rack for mechanical MF, I have the button preset (at switch 1) for infinity at 35mm for astro work, and I have the button (in switch 2) set to switch between MF and Iris. It takes gorgeous photos and the preset, programmable capabilities only make it more appealing.

    I just got my lens today, and so far, I love it. While using a Sony A7iii, I compared it to the excellent Tamron 28-75 and the image quality was indistinguishable between the two at 35, 50, and 75MM. I see this comment was a year ago. I am upgrading from my old Nikon to a Sony a7iii soon.
      When I say I’m torn it’s an understatement. My simple question is, any regrets??
      I use a 24-120mm f4 daily then use a 35mm 1.8 most of the time. So I’m thinking do I want one lens that could be “Jack of all trades, master of none?”
      Or get two lenses say another 35mm and the 24-105 f4. So I ask again, any regrets?

    Did you notice any air suction in your copy while zooming in and out?
    My copy does make a whooshing sound, and I am investigating if I should return it or not, great IQ and so…
    Maybe the suction is due to the tight bayonet?

    You make some great points on this lens. I went back and forth on it, and one became available locally so I grabbed. And it's...HEAVY, I'm having buyer remorse. Definitely a great zoom range, and yes I know fast glass is heavy. But I recently went to the tiny trio of Sony G lenses and they're liberating and make shooting fun. I definitely don't see this 35-150 as travel lens, too heavy and cumbersome. It's an event lens for sure and studio portrait lens, in my opinion. So debating on whether to keep it. I am debating between this lens and the Sony 24-105mm any opinion on which you think is better? I like the Sony 24mm for width but think the 2-2.8f would be nice with the Tamron....

    • @JasonVong
      @JasonVong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm if you shoot a lot in low light, the Tamron will be better. If you’re keen on bringing a separate wider prime lens (24GM or the small 24G), go for the Tamron !
      Otherwise, the 24-105mm is great for day time stuff! (And lighter compared to this too!)

      @@JasonVong Thanks for always take time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it :) Great advise, I do prefer lighter weight and don't tend to shoot or photograph much in night/low lighting. I do have the 20mm G for vlogging so could use that if light is too low.

    Here's your first lesson, and it will be the most useful one for your next visit when you want to blend in : "pa-ree". This is how the city's name must be pronounced. As, for 99% of cases, in French final letters are mute (and mostly the results of etymology and evolution).
    And glad you did not shoot only the Tour Eiffel ("toor ay-fell") ! 😉 From a guy who's been a guide in and around this tower for three years, I must be objective and say : it's often too much.
    This was an interesting review, and your test was user-oriented. That proves useful, as specifications do not make for the whole experience. Thanks !

    I think I'll be pulling the trigger on this lens, since I have a 14mmGM and a 55mm Zeiss for prime choices. I can spare 50mm more of telephoto if I just get this one glass as an all-in-one, instead of a 70-200mm and a 24-70mm to pair with stabilized my a7iii. Thanks, Jason.

      I prefer 24-105, or 24-135, or 24-150, f/2.8 or faster. f/2 is perfect. 35mm is kinda tight to my preference. I also have 14mm GM. So 14mm GM and 35-150 Tamron could be perfect for me while waiting for 24-150 f/2 😊. I travel so all-in-one lens is preferable. I do not care the size and weight. Hope any lens manufacturers could introduce my preferred lens soon.

    From a sigma 24-70 art owner point of view, would you consider the purchase of the tamron 70-180 to complete the standard focals or would you go for the tam 35-150 instead? The choise has to be seen from the perspective of a travel photographer in love with enviromental portraits and street/wild shooting.
