  • Did you know the miners of the North East of England would gift a dough baby at Christmas?
The Yule Doo is thought to originate from a 1850s tradition, possibly with roots going back to the Scottish Hogmanay celebration.
The last working day before Christmas was Yule Doo Day into the Northern Coal mines. In former times, women would bake spice Yule Doos for the children of their friends and neighbours, as well as it being a tradition between a Coal miner hewer and the putter lads.
