I remember many Christmas's like that. Wonderful magic times in my childhood innocence with thoughts of " that man up the chimney ", listening, making sure you were good.
I loved those days and Christmas Time growing up from very young. So homely and traditional, used to gey excited making the paper chains and other decorations for Chrismas and the tree. Lovely warm cosy open fire. I would live to back to those days so much. Loved this video!
One thing they didn't have at Beamish. Real 1950s snow. Christmas was when I went with my mam to collect the divi from the Co-op. I went on sleigh to see Santa at St. Helens Lancashire in 1962 I think. In the shop you went into a darkened room that was fitted out like a sleigh. The walls had back lit roller sheets on them, (like the destination rollers on a bus), that made it look like you were moving. You left via a different door at the front so it seemed as if you had really been taken to a different place. You then got to see Santa who was at the end of the short path. I got a plastic steam loco that looked purple in the orange street lights, but was really green. When I think of Christmas it's getting up very early in the morning while it was still dark and sneaking downstairs to open our presents. I remember that my brother got an Airfix Lancaster bomber, a Tri-ang Princess Elizabeth train set and a red bike. Can't remember what I got. I was always envious if his presents. He was my dad's favourite.
Brilliantly well presented vlog of one of our great museums in the area. For us locals we only pay once and can visit 365 days of the year!! What’s not to like. Merry Xmas and all the best in the New Year. 🎅
Such a lovely video , well presented, its my go to place to escape from the working week 😇 Happy Christmas 🎄 looking forward to your adventures next year 🎉
I really enjoyed watching this & never heard of this place before. I live right down south in Weymouth so it's too far for me to actually visit but thank you for sharing this. It looks lovely 🥰
It’s well worth a visit if you love nostalgia. I live in Sth. Derbyshire & went with 2 friends a couple of years ago. We stayed over-night nearby & also spent a second at Beamish, as there is too much to see in one day.
There was always plenty of paper chains a decorations because teachers got us to stick them together with glue during the last couple of weeks of Xmas term a break from the daily, spelling reading and writing duties. Glue and paint were common things in the 5 to 7 year old class.
I love Beamish ,the pit houses brought back memories we lived in a colliery row çalled Barras Row next to Spice Cake Row in Seghill Northumberland .The street sign for Spice Cake Row is in Beamish. I haven't been to see the 1950s houses yet 🤗.
They are lovely houses in the pit village! I love that street name 'Spice Cake Row', I wonder where that came from! You'll love the 1950s street and houses, they're so different from anything else at Beamish and it just really brings that era to life!
the little plant with the dried oranges on is in fact an orange tree grown from a pip iv done this myself my granny used to grow them takes about 4 to 5 years to get them like the beamish one but i carry on the tradition
I’ve seen a number of heritage museums in Canada and the USA but Beamish excels. Thanks again for a delightful video. Btw we called paper chains streamers when I was a bairn in Sunderland in the fifties.
Beamish is definatly very special at Christmas especially in the dark evening events. I had a scooter the same as the one in roamer parishes window in the later 60s
When we were young What's this year we're in at this moment We're on food Banks we're starving No money for nothing not well . We have mental problems memories of which is better or not !? Beamish pit houses Also our hoses we made paper chains 😮😮😊😊 !????😮😢
An amazing place & all the more special at Christmas time. ❤
Thank you for sharing.

I remember a sleigh ride like that when my son was small in the Co-op in Llanelli. The kids adored it. It was so magical.
Great to see proper toys are still available. 🎅🌲⛄️🎁

the cheese pies from heroin's bakers are so so nice . and the warm pork pies from the bait cabin mmmmmm
Oh I've never had those! I tend to be a fish and chips person at Beamish so I'll have to give them a go!
“People in modern clothing, spoiling the views”….That’s true for me every single day! 😎😁
Santa used to be called Father Christmas...
He still is.
