Most jpop does in fact focus on the music and lyrics heavily; a ton of popular pop producers, singers and singer-songwriters don't even show their real faces. Stop reducing jpop to idols immediately. If you look at charts and karaoke rankings most popular songs in Japan don't even come from the idol scene anyway.

1:06 aside from discovering diff music genres, they encourage trainees to write their own music. all lsrfm members got writing credits and eunchae said she's also writing songs on her free time

Namjoon pushed the boys to be expose to different genres of music to grow their passion/love on music - this was mentioned by the members many times that they are so grateful of. It is amazing to know T&D see the value of it & implement to their programs. Also, it's great to see trainees are given the freedom to plan for themselves by realizing what are their own weakness & the need of improvements

among lsrfm members, hong eunchae is the longest hybe trainee and really undergone to different levels of being trainee - being scouted to passing auditions to transferring to diff classes during training to finally being picked as debut candidate

진짜 빅히트랑 하이브는 김남준한테 고마워해야함... 물론 데뷔때는 김남준이 빅히트한테 감사한 일이 더 많았겠지만, 저 한명의 연습생이 생각해낸 걸로 하이브라는 소속사의 한 프로그램이 완성된거고, 정국이라는 가수도 빅히트에 오게 된거잖아...

As an international fan who has followed BTS since late 2016, I've always maintained this when talking about the group to people who were interested in the boys or kpop in general. What makes BTS different - Kim Namjoon & his colours being part & having a big influence on the core team from day 1. In a way, you could see it in all the trainees who either debuted under bighit or were once part of the company. As an outsider it seemed like Namjoon's ways stuck & was being carried on with other groups as well. This whole episode especially 4:31 - 4:38 confirms this 💙

Makes me happy they are doing this. I grew up in music and listened and learned to play many genres. From classical, big band, swing, rock, pop, jazz, blues, rap etc... I had to take music theory in school but learned the most just listening to different genres do you really start to appreciate and see the art in each style. At age 59 music is still my life and while I did not get the chance to pursue it as a career, you will hear music in my house the entire 12-20 hours I am awake, constantly on. Thank you for showing this series on how you help your trainees learn and appreciate all forms of music.

The company really looked into every detail of what made BTS what it is and now tries to implement what they can from their observations into other groups. Fascinating. Anyone who dedicates their life to perform songs should be musically cultured; nobody should be fine with being a phony, someone who 'is in the arts' but 'isn't an artist'.
