Thank you guys once again for Your support, I really enjoyed this Movie can't wait for the second one. that being said ( Can we get a Like on this comment for Rue please - 1 like is justice for Rue -)
Oh I forgot to write down a little bit of side information (from the book 1). So there are 13 districts and a capitol (But 13 got destroyed). Each district is specialized on a certain trade (mining for 12) the tributes have to represent their district and gets a stylist to create a costume for them. Most districts are poor but 1 and 2 are pretty well off and the capitol is rich. In district 12 there are a lot of people starving, Katniss safes her family by illegally going into the woods with Gale to hunt (her father taught her). Whatever they find /hunt in the woods they trade for goods. Gale is the oldest brother in his family (therefore has to help to provide for them) and each year when you are able to participate as a tribute your name gets put in. So in the first year your name is in there 1 time. In the second year 2 times etc.. But here is the catch. You can put your name in for x amount for x amount of a year supply on flour/rice (can't remember) for one person. So let say in year one you want a year supply for 3 people your name would be in already 4 times. In year two if you then do not want the additional food you would still have to add the 1 on top, making it 5 times. But most would go for the extra food making it (if it's again 3 food supplies) 8 times for year two.
Awesome video! I actually just started a writing and literature channel, however, I will be reacting to some movies as well in the future. I am beginning with the book the lord of the rings. I honestly have never read the book but have seen the movies: th-cam.com/video/dBiqGJOSgFI/w-d-xo.html (1st ever reaction)
peter rabbitn amazing thank you, information like this allows me to dive deeper into the world and understand more why some characters may act the way they do, much appreciated for real !!!
Don't worry, Peeta was playing the careers with a fake alliance. The book goes into more detail about this, and all the other things Peeta did to protect Katniss. He's 100% a good guy. Team Peeta y'all!
Okay I’m glad I have you guys to help me with information that I may have missed, The books are always soo better Im going to add it to my reading list for sure because I did enjoy this movie.
The scene where Peeta throws the bread at Katniss is not done well in the movie. It looks like he was just a dick who threw bread at a starving girl. In the books the scene happened when they were younger, and Katniss had been starving having to find food for her family after her father died. Peeta saw her laying in the rain starving and even though he knew his mother would beat him for it, burnt the bread on purpose so that his mother would force him to throw it for the pigs to eat. He purposely ruined the bread so that Katniss could feed her family. In the book when Peeta is picked at the reaping Katniss is upset and says in her head that she wished it were anyone but him, anyone but the boy with the bread, because he was kind. There's even a cute scene in the book where right before Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capitol Peetas dad brings Katniss a bag of cookies from their bakery. It's also sad that Cato didn't show depth until his last moments. The kids in 1&2 are trained to kill, what choice did he ever have but to be ruthless? And the book depicted his death more gruesomely. Katniss described the mutts slowly eating at Cato for hours, and finally he looked up at her begging for death, so she took mercy on him and shot him wi the arrow. Waiting for you to watch the second one.
Ohh wow this was very informative and I appreciate that I love hearing things that make the world seem more realistic for me to wrap my mind around, crazyyy to hear about what you said with the mutts, kinda messed up lol but to be honest what about the concept of this movie isn’t lol, my reaction to the second movie will be up tomorrow at 8pm BST
@@RicoPresents the mutts are so much worse in the book. I can't really describe it with justice in a sentence, but it's one of the cruelest things they do to Katniss.
Haymitch fought in the 50th HG. Every 25 years, the rules are changed for that year. For the 50th games, 2x the amount of tributes were reaped. Haymitch allied himself with a girl from his district (12) and she died after they parted ways. He blamed himself for this, but didn’t have much time to dwell on it because he had to keep himself alive. He figured out that a forcefield surrounded the arena and used this to his advantage when the last person left to fight threw an axe at him and he ducked. This sent the ace into the force field and back at the girl, hitting her in the head and killing her instantly. The capitol didn’t like that he used the force field and saw this as him trying to show them up. The capitol ended up killing Haymitch’s mother, brother, and girlfriend (his dad had died in the coal mines). This also has with mentoring and growing close to tributes only for them to die year after year, sent him into a deep depression and alcoholism (you were right when saying it seemed as if he was trying to forget something.)
Yoooo Jhope this is the kind of information that I need man this legit was like I was there, it was very informative and educational thanks for that man, legit that's dope I kind of was right indeed if I went through all of that can't say it I wouldn't want to forget like he did too, I appreciate you!!
And Haymitch never wanted to have kids because they could go to future HG. Same thing with Katniss and Gale. The girl Haymitch allie in the 50th HG was friends with Katniss' mom when all of them were at school.
I don’t know if it said this in the movie, but Gale couldnt volunteer, as with Katniss gone he would have to hunt for both his and katniss’s family because they lived off the meat they brought home, because if they took capitol rations they got more entries in the reaping. Gale had around 5 younger siblings and primrose and both their Dads were dead. That situation gives a lot more context on why he didn’t volunteer with her in my opinion.
Right see Alli that makes allot more sense than me thinking he was just trying to save his own life, I guess I shouldn't of dogged on him soo hard, but all I could think was he didn't care, when in actual facts he had his own family and her family to look after, I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me helps me understand the movie more>
She missed with the bow because she was unused to the pull weight and how the arrow would fly. Her home-made equipment was nothing compared to this longbow.
Richard Ashton I always thought it was because she was nervous. After all she’s not used to being watched and evaluated because she’s always hunted to fill a basic need
Emily B I thought my way because I had learned archery at university. We had 28lb pull fibreglass bows and the instructor had a 35lb one that none of us could draw. English and Welsh longbowmen had 100lb pull - and really strong, broad shoulders. So I assumed. However, nervousness could well have been an issue. Good point.
I was thinking this Thais, soo much of it was down to horrible conditions but then it’s like also on the same hand, everyone likes a bad guy, I’m excited for the next one!!
@@RicoPresents It's also really interesting that due to districts 1 and 2's importance to the capital the kids are expected to train and eventually volunteer for the games to bring "Honor" to their district which shows the intense brainwashing that is present in this society. They're proud to kill other kids if it means their district in particular is honored by the capital. Compared to the outlier districts like 5-12 being chosen for the games is a death sentence becuase these kids haven't been training all of their lives and are often extremely malnourished. Anyway, I really recommend that you listen to the audiobook of this trilogy becuase it's an amazing nuanced that deserved to be listened too.
If you're wondering about that three-finger salute that keeps appearing, here is a direct quote from the reaping at the beginning of this book: "Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me. But a shift has occurred since I stepped up to take Prim's place, and now it seems I have become someone precious. At first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me. It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love." From this it is also inferred that when District 11 is shown doing this gesture after Rue's death, they are thanking Katniss for caring for one of their children by honoring her with her own district's symbology. In the book, since we're in Katniss's perspective and aren't able to see actions outside of the arena, they actually pool money together to send her a loaf of bread in the arena in one of those parachutes. It's a very emotional moment.
Jorbador, you're a legend I actually really wanted to know the symbolism behind what the gesture meant and you summed it up perfectly I appreciate you for taking the time to comment and let me know, I guess it would make sense why they felt soo strongly also to riot after that because they felt like their district was being represented in a time where they was being constantly overlooked, yeahhh I appreciate you thank you!!
Rue was such a good person. Everybody standing together in silence, paying their respects and then starting the rebellion was beautiful and goosebump-inducing. Absolutely horrible as many things in this story are, but inspiring. The spark is starting to burn.
Stefan honestly you know how powerful that scene was when I was watching it, Rue was sooo good and I felt like everything was justified after that point its a really good movie, very goosebump- inducing !!
I at one point thought that when rue told Katniss about the trackerjackers that it was smart because not only would it take care of the group on the ground but if Katniss died while doing it then that would be one less person in the arena but if that was true she never would have taken care of her while she was unconscious.
Peeta only worked with the other team to protect Katniss. He didn't betray her but knew they would go after Katniss and want to get rid of her the most because she was the biggest threat to them. Not sure if you saw that after Katniss dropped the wasps on the four arseholes, she begins hallucinating. It was Peeta who urged her to run. In the books it is explained that Peeta stayed awake all night when Katniss was up the tree to ensure her safety. When he urged her to run, Cato (the leader arsehole) saw this and cut Peeta's leg, injuring him. The injury to him was sustained by him trying to save Katniss.
Alexandra, that's soo well explained thank you, Im not going to lie there was times in which I was just thinking I really don't like this guy but you and someone else have explained to me now that he wasn't as much of a snake as I initially thought, Watching movies with you guys is amazing I really feel like I get the full experience its actually wonderful, thank you for taking time to explain that to me!!
Rico I have to say, I've never encountered a reactor that has the emotional intelligence to understand what's going on through the character's heads like you. You're very empathetic and really get into the story without trying to find flaws and instead try to put yourself in the characters' shoes and I really appreciate that. I rarely subscribe to reactors, but you my friend, deserve me subscribing.
Ulie can I just say thank you, this is actually a very very nice message and I appreciate you, firstly for even saying those things they are very kind and I’m quite honoured, and secondly for subscribing, this movie though really did all the work, I felt it was well written and they explained somethings in ways that I thought were very real and hardcore, if feel like the relationship between Katnis and her sister from the very start was shown to be that of love and protection so when they shifted it to rue, it just hurt because it felt like even though she saved her sister she still didn’t, I don’t know if that makes sense, but yeah I appreciate you taking the time to message/engage and hopefully see you for the future movies!!
Because you were asking a few questions about the background to this world, I thought I’d explain it here for you :) the Hunger games is set in a dystopian, futuristic version of America, renamed 'Panem'. Due to the impact of global warming, resources and food are scarce. Panem is split into 14 areas, known as the Capitol and 13 other districts. The Capitol people are descendants of those who fought for the current government of Panem, while those in the districts are descended from the rebels who tried to overthrow the government. The Capitol people are very rich and affluent and can pursue the lifestyle they choose. However, the districts and their people are responsible for a certain type of production, eg. District 11 is responsible for food production, District 12 for coal mining and so on. The only exception is District 13, which was responsible for nuclear weaponry but their district is now non existent due to the nuclear radiation killing everyone and destroying their landscape. Some districts are richer than others but at the end of the day, all are oppressed. The greatest mark of their oppression is of course, the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are widely popular in the Capitol and is seen as entertainment, not as the killing of children. The victor can return to their district to live a peaceful life where the Capitol will provide them with a comfortable income, and provide riches for the people of their district. District 12 is one of the poorest districts, if not the poorest, probably due to the fact that it’s only had two victors before Katniss and Peeta. Katniss has lived an exceptionally hard life, with her father dying in the coalmines when she was 11, and her mother falling into a deep depression afterwards. Katniss basically had to man up and become the breadwinner for her and her younger sister Prim as her mother was so severely mentally ill. Katniss has never forgiven her mother for "zoning out" (aka being depressed) after her father's death and leaving Katniss and Prim to basically starve to death. Because of her life experiences, she has become accustomed to never displaying emotions (so if you think that Jennifer Lawrence isn't doing a great job acting Katniss, she is! Katniss is just not a very emotive character). I must add that the movies, whilst good, just do not do the books justice. Whilst it is marketed as a book for teenagers and especially teenage girls, the themes in it are very much adult, and the book had a far greater impact on me now, re reading it as a 20 year old, than it ever did when I was 13-14. Having said that, I really do love the series and I hope you enjoy the rest of the movies!
Yes, as I remember, and please forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I've read the books....they said the polar ice caps melting cause the world to flood and much of the outskirts of America are flooded and the Capital and Districts are all what used to be the interior of the U.S. Plus it's supposed to be laid out like each district gets further and further from the Capital. So, District 1 is the closest, and therefore, is the wealthiest and has the Careers that always volunteer for the Games, and as 13 would have been the furthest away, they would have been the least wealthy, but with their demise, that makes 12 the furthest away and the least wealthy. These books are so good.
seen this movie a gazillion times, and i still bawl my eyes out when Rue passes - just a little girl who was put into this unfair situation and lost her life unable to grow up.
You know I think I was thinking along the same lines in this which is what really got to me, that and it felt like something that potentially could be avoided kept on finding a way to push through!
@@wooshbait36 she shouldn’t have been in the games in the first place, how the fuck can you expect a 12 year old to be able to know how to fight? to be forced into a traumatic experience
Actually Heymitch had to be in the arena not with 23 others, but with 47. Year when he was picked, there were twice more tributes (48). He won, but his family and girlfriend were killed anyway by Capitol, because he found out end of the arena and used it for killing last girl tribute from district 2. Capitol felt fooled so they punished him. This is why he drink so much. He has lost everything he loved, he was also very lonely because noone from district 12 won Hunger games after him. It's really interesting story, not really mentioned in movies.
gale's not her boyfriend btw. just a hunting partner turned friend because both their dads died in that explosion so they kinda started to help each other out. but there's no established romantic relationship between them. katniss doesnt even consider having a family especially kids because she knows they would grow up and could go through the hunger games as well.
In the book (I have the audiobooks), it's made very clear that the mutt dogs have human eyes and collars from the districts where someone died. As if to say that they are mutations of the fallen tributes. Not only dangerous animals but there is the sickening scare factor too. Cato's backpack had armoured clothing. The mutts would have been tearing at him all night if Katniss hadn't shot him. The game designers were truly vile (Still are if my Rogue in Sholazar Basin has anything to say with the matter - 'Returned Sevenfold' is just nasty)
woahhh that sounds soooo messed up lol kind of cool I won't lie but also very very disturbing, I will say this though Richard thank you for giving me additional information, it helps me build up a image and more realistic idea of the movies and just how crazy they can be so thank you you're making the experience more enjoyable!!
Peeta was only trying to stay alive. He would’ve been killed immediately if that group thought he was of no use. He’s the one who recommended they wait, instead of killing her right away. I don’t think he had a lot of choice in the beginning.
I get that but I mean I was in my feelings that movie soo when I saw him rock up with the other people I genuinely was soo disappointed in him, genuinely though I have to admit he was very smart from the beginning at getting people to like him, so I know it was for a reason and you're right he did persuade them not to kill her, I hope though he don't switch up again because I don't know how many times I could forgive that!!
Rico Presents Lol, are you planning on reacting to the other movies? You never know, Peeta might surprise you. Then again, he might not. No spoilers here😉
Peeta didn't join the other group to stay alive. He joined them to protect Katniss as he knew they would go for her. It's better explained in the books.
Peeta never betrayed Katniss or "switched up". The alliance with the careers was fake. He even fought Cato to protect her, and that's how his leg got injured.
The reason why no one has sponsored them before is because they are poorest district with little to no victors, everyone is malnourished and live in unsanitary enviroments. Thats why Haymitch is like possibly the only one mostly District 12 tributes would've died immediately in the games but since Katniss has been illegally hunting in the woods she got some exprience and Peeta is because he just seem attractive and displayed strength soo he gets sponsorship like that.(Haymitch went through some real shit in his time in the hunger games and uhm that why he's depressed guy.)
Right that makes sense, thank you star for taking the time to comment and explain that to me, it helps me understand the world more and I appreciate that!!!
I really enjoyed this reaction video! I'd like to elaborate on the Katniss/Peeta flashback, since the entire backstory and meaning is gotten COMPLETELY wrong in the movie. They portray it as though Katniss is angry at Peeta for tossing the bread out to her, which isn't the case at all. In the books, Katniss is only 11 at the time of the flashback, and it's the period after her father died. Her mother is completely despondent and unable to take care of her children. It was at this point that Katniss had to completely take over as mother to Prim (this is also before she's a skilled, self-sufficient hunter). Katniss and Prim had been starving for weeks, as Katniss was unable to find enough food for them. When Peeta sees Katniss outside alone in the rain, and so weak she can barely move, he burns the bread on purpose (earning a beating from his mother) so that he can give it to her. The bread was enough to feed Katniss and Prim for two days, finally giving her hope and enough strength to start hunting on her own. The awkwardness between Katniss and Peeta after the reaping is because Katniss pretty much feels indebted to him, and guilty that she's going to have to kill him. Sorry if somebody else has said this already, but it's just something that's always bothered me about this movie, even though I really love it as a whole. Can't wait to see you react to catching fire!
Right see no one has explained that to me, or at least in that much detail soo firstly I just want to say thank you for taking the time to do that, it does mean allot and helps me a bit more understand the inner workings of what’s going on behind the scenes, you can Only get soo much from movies, but thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the movie just as a heads up the full reaction and Early Access to my reaction to catching fire is on my Patreon now, otherwise Wednesday 8th 8pm BST Im releasing the TH-cam version !!
35:35 I honestly believe the tribute (FoxFace) committed suicide, she knew they were Nightlock berries and it was shown in the training montage she was very clever, she knew she wouldn't be able to win against the remaining tributes, and she went out on her own terms, rather than at the end of a sword or bow.
Ohh wow LSC thank you soo much that’s quite an honour, (No pressure moving forward) lool honestly though thank you this movie took me by surprise as I’m not really one to get too emotional at movies but from the start it just gripped me!!
I genuinely think this is the best reaction to the hunger games I’ve seen. You actually reacted the same way so many fans did when they first saw/read this, especially when you see Peeta with the career tributes. Some reactors don’t really take anything in like that and just look at it from face value but you actually thought about it which is great. Can’t wait for the next one!
Thank you Leah I really do appreciate your comment, thank you for engaging, and thank you the amazing compliment, I think this movie just reached out to me in a way that was different and honestly I didn’t expect it to be soo good so when it was it was like I felt more invested, the full reaction to catching fire is out on Early release on my Patreon now, other wise Wednesday 8th 8pm BST it will be on my TH-cam channel.
Ohhh I can imagine, that scene was soo emotional for me, and I don’t usually get like that for movies soo I have to be honest I genuinely understand where you’re coming from, in fact this whole movie played with my emotions LOL
Donald Sutherland, who plays President Snow in the series, has been a great actor through the years, as both good guy and bad guy.... I suppose that's why his son, Kiefer Southerland, is too
In the book, Katniss become deaf of one ear after the explosion of food. Her eardrum is treated at the end and she says she has never heard so well. Sorry for my bad english, I'm french.
Just wanna point out how Gale isn’t her boyfriend. In the first book it even says how Katniss sees him as like a cousin and they’re even mistaken for siblings cuz of their brown hair brown eyes same skin tone that shows they’re from the Seam (what the poorest part of district 12 is called).
Gale had a crush on katniss, but katniss only saw him as a brother. After the games, gale took on a more protective role in katniss’ life, and that’s when katniss realized Gale’s feelings for her. I think the only real reason katniss ever kissed gale was because she felt bad for him. That complicated her relationship with peeta, because she needs peeta’s kindness for her mental health. When peeta got captured by the capital in mockingjay, katniss’ mental health shattered.
I think the butterfly was supposed to reflect Katniss' thoughts on realizing how lucky she is to be set in a forested arena with wildlife to hunt. You have to remember that they could have placed the tributes in any kind of terrain. For all she knew they'd all have been going into a scorching desert, swamp lands, or maybe snowy mountains.
In the books, it explains that you are not allowed to take another tributes backpack, so that's why nobody steals any. Cato's backpack had armour in it. So in the end scene when he's fighting with Katniss and Peeta on top of the Cornucopia they still push him off to the mutts. But in the books they can't kill him straight away because of his armour so they spend the whole night chewing at him and biting chunks from his body. He spends the entire night screaming in pain and crying for mercy. Katniss tries to shoot him dead but can't get a clear shot because of the cornucopia. Eventually, after hours of his screaming agony she manages to shoot an arrow at him to put him out of his misery.
Your analysis is so spot-on! Especially with the real world parallels and the politics going on around it. The books really dive deep into this stuff but I think the films are excellent adaptations, you'll see these elements coming up more and more throughout the series. Great reaction, hope you enjoy the rest of the films
Thank you Katie, I appreciate that, I do think this movie is very very different to what I expected it to be, it was filled with emotions and things that I really didn't think would be talked about or implied, it has strong messages, I think depending on how this series goes the Books will be something I might add to my reading list, I hope you stay around and complete the series with me.
I was thinking that myself but at the end of the day, when it came down to it I think even she would of been able to do it (that’s if they hadn’t met) because she would of wanted to see her family again, I dunno just an opinion
With Cato the last guy in the arena to die, there are ideas that he loved cove who was crushed he was also brainwashed by his academy to be in the hunger games , so he may be heartbroken of her death and he and the others had been trained for years.
10:14 47 people. He participated in the 50th games and at every 25 years they make a special edition and in the second one(50th time) they had doubled the people
@@RicoPresents and in the book, the mockingjay spindle is a present of Madge the mayor's daughter to Katniss. We know in the second book, it was the spindle of Madge's aunt who was one of the tribute with Haymitch
This is a good reaction tbh... And yes, you are supposed to feel a little bit of sympathy for Cato... because he was a product, a victim of the games after all
Lovely reaction again! Glad you enjoyed the movie so much. The weird romantic scenes were because Katniss is acting in order to survive, everything is on cameras and she knows this. She wanted to make good scenes for the cameras and for the sponsors. These take place in a dystopian future time, which is why they have technology in certain districts and not others.
Thank you Amanda, yeah honestly It took me bye surprise because I didn't think id get soo emotionally invested in it, legit was a couple of scenes that really did make me feel as if I could cry, that NEVER happens for me in movies soo for that alone I really liked it, right got you I knew it had to be some kind of Dystopian future because the technology they had was amazing I don't think I've seen anything like that before, like they way they controlled the fire in the dome and put the dogs in was amazing!
I'm only six minutes in and you have me crying because you get it. You understood about Buttercup (the cat) - most reviewers I've seen miss that completely. You understand so deeply so early on. Insta-subscriber! Thank you for sharing your beautiful insight and your reactions.
Wow Ouuga, this comment instantly made me smile, thank you soo very much I love this channel and the fact it’s bring soo many wonderful people to the community I’m trying to build here, thank you for your compliment and I hope you enjoy the reactions!
The whole thing with the gamemakers announcing two could win if from the same district always felt shady, like they would either do everything to make that impossible or, as happened, take it back. But I imagine if you were in the games and had already survived so many horrible things, you'd hold on to any hope possible, no matter how strange it sounded.
Actually at the flashback Peeta gave her the bread when she was at the verge of starving to death. But because of this he took a beating from his abusive mother
@@RicoPresents i recommand you to read the book and sincethe 4th one (ballad of songbird and snake just got out) you should start with this one. Its about the life of president snow when hes 18 years old and was a mentor in the 10th hunger games. After you finish it read the original trilogy.
Great reaction! I always thought that the red-haired girl (Foxface) ate the berries on purpose because she probably realised there was no way she could win and it was probably a quicker death. In the training arena she's seen doing that plant coding thingy (idk what it's called lmao) so she probably knew they were poisonous. Idk that's just what I think xD Also in terms of Cato (the guy from District 1), I sorta felt sorry for him because he and Clove (the girl who had her head smashed in) were a couple I believe. In the book, she calls out "Cato! Cato!" when her head's being smashes in. He actually comes running, and he begs her to stay with him as she dies, and he screams out in rage. In the movies, it made it seem like he was with that other girl, Glimmer (from District 2) but yeah he loved Clove in the book. So that's kinda why I feel bad for him. Yeah he was a dick and all but like he probably wanted him and Clove to be the tributes that would make it out so I find that kinda tragic. But yeah, great reaction, and justice for Rue!
I loved this reaction! I can't wait for you to react to Catching Fire- personally I think its even better than the first film and I love seeing how you react to each character. My favourite character from this movie would have to be Rue or Peeta, but I also love Thresh for saving Katniss from Clove
Hey Orla, thank you for taking the time to comment I really appreciate that, and I’m looking forward to watching Catching fire too, I’ve been seeing that a bit in the comments about number two soo I’m hyped, 100% Rue was my favourite also and now you guys have told me that Peeta isn’t as much of a snake as I thought he was, I can appreciate his role more, but yeah Orla thank you again and hope you enjoy the next one when I upload it!
The reason why the redhead girl didnt take the other bags is because she didnt want other tributes to follow her and get her, since they were all nearby waiting to get their bags, in the book while Cato watches Clove die in his arms, Thresh takes their bags and runs, i believe Cato later tracks him down and kills him for it.
Foxface (The girl that ate the berries (nightlock) and died.) actually ate the berries to commit suicide. Because like you see at the beginning of the movie in the training center. She is sorting plants and their effects. Or berries with their plants. (you get what I mean). So like she knows it all but then she ate berries "by accident". She ate them because she knew she couldn't win. She sacrificed herself and that is so sad. I thought you should want to know this.
Wait what 48 LOL that's absolutely insane 48 LOL I'm not surprised his character had this type of vibe, but they really just be doing that spicing up the rules? I think I'm going to really like this series!!
@@RicoPresents Yea, they do that every 25 years, on the 25th games they asked districts to elect their own victors to participate and in the next movie it's the 75th Hunger games, they'll be coming up with some new absurd ideas, you'll see!
Katniss wouldn't survive if clove didnt throw the knife on katniss's bag in the cornucopia She wouldn't have dropped the tracker jackers. Katniss wouldn't survive if it werent for Glimmers bow and arrows Katniss and Peeta wouldnt survive if it werent for foxface's berries (nightlocks) And that, ladies and gents, was luck.
Funfact:Haymitch was the winner of the 50th hunger games where it was a quarter quell which then for the twist there was 2x the amount of tributes so he was 1/48 people
I'm still watching but wanted to comment. Thank you for the reaction! And your observation that they have all of this technology but where the District 12 people live doesn't look like that at all. The districts are poor. It's harder to see the reality when you're watching it play out, but it's like that in real life too. You've got people who will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a single item like a vase, and they HAVE the money to spend on useless items, yet we also have people who are hungry and suffering, can't get health care or basic needs met in this world. So the contrast isn't exaggerated. The haves had always gotten greedier and kept from the Have Nots. It's rare that a Have Not makes it into the Have category. Usually the only people who do, got lucky enough to meet a Have who cares enough about them to help them make it into the Have category, or they ended up with an insane skill that nobody else has and were amazingly able to keep hold of ownership of it long enough to use it to make enough to be a Have too. Most people are Have Nots and juggle to make ends meet.
Cato was being torn apart by mutts from dusk till dawn, all night long, in the morning he was described to be a twisted lump of flesh and then katniss saw him and Cato mouthed “please” then katniss shot him out of mercy, not vengeance (This was in the book for all of y’all)
Yeah, it is extreme to make them do the Hunger Games, but that's the point. By showing the power they hold over them and how their lives are just tools to further improve life for those in the Capitol and surrounding districts, they do this and hope it makes them too scared to fight back.
That guy who was eaten by the mutts was actually in that situation for HOURS in the book until Katniss finally killed out of mercy because he asked her, never was a big fan but still felt bad for him
By the way at the feast scene you said “why are they only getting what they need instead of getting all of the supplies”. This is actually because if you are to take another district’s pack, because they “need it desperately” they’re going to follow you and hunt you down for it. This actually happens to Thresh (district 11 boy) in the book. He takes District 2’s pack (which is actually armor for Katniss’s arrows) and Cato (that evil boy from district 2) chases Thresh into the high grass and kills him.
peeta pretended to join the group to protect katniss and mislead them from finding her. obviously they still found her but when she was up in the tree he told them to wait it out (to at least make them stop from trying to kill her for now). he also told her to run away when they got stung (he got stung too but his first instinct was to go back for her).
I wouldn’t say they were made of their skin, but the mutts do resemble each of the fallen tributes. It’s said that the eyes looked unmistakably humanlike and that’s the most unsettling thing as we don’t know how or what the capital did to make that happen. Like when Katniss notices that, she’s wondering if their brains were that of the real tributes, specifically because of the scary resemblance, and if the capital implanted them into the mutts and had done something as to wire said brains to hate them and avenge their own deaths. Their coats of fur do coincide with that of each tribute though along with the eyes that I mentioned.
Thank you for your reaction, you had such good comments and you took the whole movie so seriously. I love Peeta he's so wholesome, he's never afraid to show his feelings, and i'm sure that you've been told in the comments that Peeta was lying to the careers. I think this movie was so emotional and well made, it's seen as a teen movie nowadays but it's such a serious saga i love it!!
Hey Audrey, I really appreciate this message and I just want to say thank you very much for it, I loved this series because it was awesome but it connected me with some really kind hearted and caring people, the fandom for THG is incredible and I’m soo happy I got to experience this with you, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!
ALSO the reason he is sooooo maddd is because Katniss reminds president Snow of his ex girlfriend who also live in district 12. He always thought of her as a mockingjay.
If you see this Rico, the hunger games book trilogy takes place in 2147 and 2148 where only 4.9 million people are left on Earth. Panem is where North America is. (most of USA, small bit of Mexico, small bit of canida)
goodness rico, after you posted this i forgot about my love for this series and had to go back and re-read the books (highly recommend them!!) and the movies before i could watch your reaction haha. but here i am a month later. it's fun to see reactions from someone who hadn't read the books previously. i remember watching the movies when they first came out (after reading the books first) and wondering if the plot really made sense for someone coming in with a fresh mind. can't wait to watch the others!!
I think it’s very likely that the ginger girl (foxface) ate the berries on purpose, knowing they were poisonous. She didn’t want to kill anyone and knew she couldn’t make it till the end. I don’t think tributes are allowed to commit suicide (it may endanger their families if they do so) so she ate them knowing she would die and could pass it off as an accident
Thank you Juf Suzan, I’m glad you enjoyed the reaction, honestly this movie just took me by surprise there were topics and issues that I felt they really did a good job at explaining I haven’t seen that done much before in the way they did it, I’m really looking forward to the second movie and I’m glad you’ll be joining me (hopefully) thank you for taking the time out to comment though really appreciated!
Great reaction, loved seeing your takes on this movie. I completely agree that this movie really parallels a lot of suffering going on in the world right now. It always gives me chills to see this story play out because it really demonstrates how (relatively) small moments like a single person’s death, like Rue’s, can be a catalyst for a huge change in societal attitudes towards the system. Again, great vid, thanks for sharing your reactions!
This movie FAR exceeded my expectations this movie really hot in the feels. This movie reminds me of the movie 1984. Governments really do seem to put in policies in an attempt to steer entire populations futures towards more control and less liberties to a point people just accept it as the new norm. I'm from Kentucky and am indeed poor AF lol and to see our own world mirror the same willful decisions is truly sad great video man love ur work I'll be binge watching the series 😆
Late to the party and not sure if someone had already mentioned it but in the beginning when Katniss volunteers to take her sisters place, when no one claps and they give the 3 finger salute so to speak, they explain in the book that is a salute often used at funerals to show admiration and love for someone who has died. So when they gave her the salute they basically applauded her bravery and sacrifice without applause. It’s really beautiful the way it’s described in the book.
As a new member of your community. My favorite scene is the flowers around Rue. in the book, Katniss knew that her(Rues)family would see her dead. So she wanted to make sure that she look like she was sleeping on a bed of flowers. So much more powerful in the book. Favorite character, Peta. M.V.P., Katness. Most hated character, of course, President Snow. N.V.P., Glimmer, the blonde girl with the bow, before Katniss got it, that followed Cato around like a lost puppy. Can't wait to watch the next one, totally subscribed.
Hey Cooper, welcome Im glad you’re joining us, I can only imagine that the book like very many do the movie more justice and if it was better than what I saw then it must of been very touching and thoughtful, ahah I love your break down of who was your favourite to least that’s gold, I’m excited for the next one too I’m recording it tonight you guys seem to say it’s the best one so looking forward to it because I really enjoyed the first, but yeah thanks very much for subscribing I appreciate that!!
At 6:27, when she’s telling her sister to leave, she wants to cry but is holding back because she knows it’ll be played for the other tributes and she doesn’t want to appear like she has a weakness
loved your reaction and commentary! this series is my fav! definitely add it to your reading list! you should pleaseeee react to the other 3 movies, all are very good. also it’s not really stated well in this movie but gale is actually her best friend, not her boyfriend, although he has feelings for her that she doesn’t entirely reciprocate. also gale couldn’t have volunteered to go in the games because he had to provide for katniss’ family while she was gone. great video!
Heyyy Bryn thanks for commenting/engaging I will do soo far it’s actually amazing and I want to know more, I am and will be reacting to the others Early Access to my reaction to catching fire is on my Patreon now, otherwise Wednesday 8th 8pm BST Im releasing the TH-cam version !!
In the books, the dogs were a whole lot more terrifying... because there was 21 of them... want to know what else was 21? Dead tributes. Why does that matter? Because each dog had the same face as every one of the dead tributes
The last few days I’ve read the books for the first time, and I’ve seen the first movie, so I’ve come to see other people’s reactions to them. In the books things are explained way more, and gives the characters more dept! But that’s normally the case with book to movie adaptations!
Sophie I think you’re right because this one came in very strong and really took me by surprise, I thought it was going to be a totally different movie from what I actually watched.
Nice reaction, you earned yourself a subscribe. I dont't know if someone already mentioned it, but Panem is a sovereign state founded after a series of ecological disasters. A global conflict brought down modern civilisation. Panem is situated primarily in North America consisting of a federal district, the capitol and 13 districts each contributing in a different way for the capitols wealth. The name Panem derives from the latin phrase panem et circenses which means "bread and circuses". District 12 is the smallest and poorest district, located in the Appalachias and holds about 8000 people.
Thank you Dolmar, I appreciate you taking the time not only to comment but to subscribe also, Information like this is very helpful for me getting a bigger picture of the movie so again thank you for taking time out to explain, hopefully catch you on the next Hunger Games upload!!
Thank You Charlie, it takes allot of time and work but from comments like this really do make it worth it, Thank you and thank you for your continued support on all my videos I really love what's being built here, so thank you for adding to it.
@@zephyne3747 I know you didn't honestly you're very kind and I appreciate you, so please also I hope you're okay, and I didn't mean to make you feel bad either.
Rico Presents I’m down. Justice for Rue!!! Woo wee woo wooh...(Mockingjay call) 🤣
Awesome video!
I actually just started a writing and literature channel, however, I will be reacting to some movies as well in the future. I am beginning with the book the lord of the rings. I honestly have never read the book but have seen the movies:
th-cam.com/video/dBiqGJOSgFI/w-d-xo.html (1st ever reaction)
Susan Maggiora LETS GOO, IM DOWN (salutes hunger games style)
peter rabbitn amazing thank you, information like this allows me to dive deeper into the world and understand more why some characters may act the way they do, much appreciated for real !!!
Yessss team Peeta!!
Oh common its so obviuss in the movie ...
Team Gale
@@Max-ws4nl what kind of drugs are you on?
Holy shit, I think I should start reading the books now
@@talya.liani13 I read the first book and it was really good and defiantly gave more information into the hunger games and other important topics ❤️❤️
@@RicoPresents o
I don’t know if it said this in the movie, but Gale couldnt volunteer, as with Katniss gone he would have to hunt for both his and katniss’s family because they lived off the meat they brought home, because if they took capitol rations they got more entries in the reaping. Gale had around 5 younger siblings and primrose and both their Dads were dead. That situation gives a lot more context on why he didn’t volunteer with her in my opinion.
Right see Alli that makes allot more sense than me thinking he was just trying to save his own life, I guess I shouldn't of dogged on him soo hard, but all I could think was he didn't care, when in actual facts he had his own family and her family to look after, I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me helps me understand the movie more>
Rico Presents actually, gale does take capitol rations too. By the time of these games, his name was in at least 40 times
JHope IsMyHeart 42 😌
Good point.
@@Richard_Ashton aaaand it is in the books
Stephanie x_x I don’t remember reading that there was a reason given.
I’ll have to go through them again.
@@Richard_Ashton I read them a long ago but i think yes, hmm.
I'm not going to lie i felt bad for Cato because you realize that these are just children who live in a world with horrible conditions
I was thinking this Thais, soo much of it was down to horrible conditions but then it’s like also on the same hand, everyone likes a bad guy, I’m excited for the next one!!
Don’t hate the player hate the game 🙋🏽♀️
@@RicoPresents exactly.. i think you're going to like others movies especially the 2nd
I would honestly love a short story from Cato's perspective
Peeta: I'm not going to kill anybody with a bag of flour.
Me: not with that attitude you're not
😂😂😂 love it
Wish I could watch these films for the first time again but I legit love seeing u react to Katniss beating the system
Honestly this was a very Im powering movie to watch and I’m glad that I finally got a chance to watch it, can’t lie Katniss is a bit of a badass
The new book is out and they said there might be a new movie from it... so you still will be able with that one 😉
Same, I still remember going to see mockingjay part 2 and loving it
@@RebNSam Really??
My dad bought me the dvds. About a month ago. I watched all 4 in a day 3 times a week and I have the books 💀 obsessed
It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love."
From this it is also inferred that when District 11 is shown doing this gesture after Rue's death, they are thanking Katniss for caring for one of their children by honoring her with her own district's symbology.
@@RicoPresents It was my pleasure to be of assistance! I have the book sitting on my bookshelf so it was easy enough to grab it and transcribe🙂
@@RicoPresents If you have any questions about anything, feel free to DM me on Twitter! My username is the same.

It totally twists your emotions when you understand what's going.
Meh, she was annoying, and it's her fault she didn't even learn how to fight. What a spoiled child.
No spoilers here😉
Yes. Peeta was protecting Katniss to the best of his ability. He made sure she didn't die.
YEESSSS. Haymitch is the best character imo. Finnick is a close second (he shows up in the next one)
ohhhhh Finnick you say hmmm dam Gwinnell why you do that lol now you got me super curious looking forward to the next one can't wait.
Finnick is a legend
Yess I love finnick I'm so ready for the next movie
Peeta also isn't held back by a dirty foot which gives Haymitch hope sooner than the movies. "Did I actually get a pair of fighters this year?"
Who the hell gave you a dislike? You are my freaking favorite Hunger Games react, congrats! ✨✨✨
The scene with Rue always makes me cry.
Yup (tho they both are described of having GRAY eyes, typical for people from Seam :))
I never understood the butterfly scene
I really like this interpretation of the scene. It makes sense!
@@RicoPresents The books are awesome too.
I don't think Katniss would have killed Rue if it came down to the two of them, even before they came together in the game.
I was thinking that myself but at the end of the day, when it came down to it I think even she would of been able to do it (that’s if they hadn’t met) because she would of wanted to see her family again, I dunno just an opinion
the movie is set it “the ruins of a place once called north america” so it’s futuristic after like a war or something
This man don’t miss! Bangers only!
Yesss Pearson ahaha the ENERGY I LOVE to seee ahhh yeahhh LETS GET IT HUNGER GAMES !!!
With Cato the last guy in the arena to die, there are ideas that he loved cove who was crushed he was also brainwashed by his academy to be in the hunger games , so he may be heartbroken of her death and he and the others had been trained for years.
Peeta: I watched you go home everyday
Katniss: Stalker
Peeta: Everyday
Katniss: Definitely a stalker
10:14 47 people. He participated in the 50th games and at every 25 years they make a special edition and in the second one(50th time) they had doubled the people
Chicko no way that’s actually crazy woah no wonder it explains allot!
@@RicoPresents and in the book, the mockingjay spindle is a present of Madge the mayor's daughter to Katniss. We know in the second book, it was the spindle of Madge's aunt who was one of the tribute with Haymitch
This is a good reaction tbh... And yes, you are supposed to feel a little bit of sympathy for Cato... because he was a product, a victim of the games after all
When he said u know what... f*ck it then put his fingers up, I literally died I’m sorry 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
Can't wait for the second reaction. Catching fire was probably the best one.
Heyy Lofty soo I keep hearing, I’m looking forward to it as I’m recording it tonight, you guys are the best!
32:20 It's been done before in the games, hiding till everyone else is dead
The whole thing with the gamemakers announcing two could win if from the same district always felt shady, like they would either do everything to make that impossible or, as happened, take it back. But I imagine if you were in the games and had already survived so many horrible things, you'd hold on to any hope possible, no matter how strange it sounded.
The movie is based in a dystopian world so there is no specific time that the movie is set.
Actually at the flashback Peeta gave her the bread when she was at the verge of starving to death. But because of this he took a beating from his abusive mother
14:58 she miss cause she wasnt used to a metal bow and arrow. (Its all explain in the book) on the next arrow she ajusted the shot and got bulleyes 😉
Right thank you JM C for explaining that I actually just thought peeta put her off or she was nervous lol so thanks for the clarification
@@RicoPresents i recommand you to read the book and sincethe 4th one (ballad of songbird and snake just got out) you should start with this one. Its about the life of president snow when hes 18 years old and was a mentor in the 10th hunger games. After you finish it read the original trilogy.
This is definitely more than your ordinary teen-drama
Great reaction!
I always thought that the red-haired girl (Foxface) ate the berries on purpose because she probably realised there was no way she could win and it was probably a quicker death. In the training arena she's seen doing that plant coding thingy (idk what it's called lmao) so she probably knew they were poisonous. Idk that's just what I think xD
Also in terms of Cato (the guy from District 1), I sorta felt sorry for him because he and Clove (the girl who had her head smashed in) were a couple I believe.
@@RicoPresents No problem!
"You are getting them proper"
Katniss: *collects flowers
Ahaha I understand now why she did but at the time I’m like come onnn just roll out on them get justice for rueeee!!
Haymitch actually fought against 48 tributes, it was 50th hunger games so they spiced it up a little bit
I love how attentive and perceptive you were during the reaction! And you were spot on on many things. Looking forward to the rest of the reactions!
Katniss wouldn't survive if clove didnt throw the knife on katniss's bag in the cornucopia
She wouldn't have dropped the tracker jackers.
Katniss wouldn't survive if it werent for Glimmers bow and arrows
Katniss and Peeta wouldnt survive if it werent for foxface's berries (nightlocks)
And that, ladies and gents, was luck.
Funfact:Haymitch was the winner of the 50th hunger games where it was a quarter quell which then for the twist there was 2x the amount of tributes so he was 1/48 people
haymitch was in the 50th quarter quell. the special rule for his game was 4 from each district total 48 people. so yeah he seen some shit.
Cato was being torn apart by mutts from dusk till dawn, all night long, in the morning he was described to be a twisted lump of flesh and then katniss saw him and Cato mouthed “please” then katniss shot him out of mercy, not vengeance
(This was in the book for all of y’all)
"Imagine having to tell your mom, to mom up" -Rico. could not have been said any better and I laughed out loud
Yeah, it is extreme to make them do the Hunger Games, but that's the point. By showing the power they hold over them and how their lives are just tools to further improve life for those in the Capitol and surrounding districts, they do this and hope it makes them too scared to fight back.
I guess the best way tends to be the worst way, total oppression that's crazy!!
Haven't read the books in years but aren't those dog things at the end made out of the dead tributes skin?
I wouldn’t say they were made of their skin, but the mutts do resemble each of the fallen tributes. It’s said that the eyes looked unmistakably humanlike and that’s the most unsettling thing as we don’t know how or what the capital did to make that happen. Like when Katniss notices that, she’s wondering if their brains were that of the real tributes, specifically because of the scary resemblance, and if the capital implanted them into the mutts and had done something as to wire said brains to hate them and avenge their own deaths. Their coats of fur do coincide with that of each tribute though along with the eyes that I mentioned.
if you think i'm going to see a 45 minute reaction from one of my favorite trilogies ... you are correct
Ahahah love it, thank you I appreciate that and I hope you enjoyed it!!
@@RicoPresents Thank you for always listening
Gale could not volunteer - he and Catniss made a deal that if one of them was chosen the other would provide for both families.
I’m so happy you where able to find the deeper messages behind this movie regarding class and how you really understood that character! Keep it up! 😃
Interesting trivia: The actor playing the short, blonde-haired commentator is Toby Jones, who voiced "Dobby the House Elf" in the Harry Potter movies.
Eyyyy look out for my catching fire reaction, I appreciate you!!
ALSO the reason he is sooooo maddd is because Katniss reminds president Snow of his ex girlfriend who also live in district 12. He always thought of her as a mockingjay.
Ohh Thank you Angela I appreciate you explaining details like this I think will help me understand the world and movies better much appreciated!
I dont know why that I love Clove so much she is so cool
Prim was screaming at the start bc in her dream, they picked her to go into the arena
In books Rue and Katniss were talking about each others' districts, describing them etc, AND IT MAKES HER DEATH MUCH SADDER IN MY OPINION
I really liked your reaction, it was good and genuine! Looking forward to hearing what you think about the second one!
@@RicoPresents I don't know if you enjoy reading, but the books are amazing. Can recommand!
The year, when Hungergames is set is year 2147.
Thank you Lise much appreciated
I'd recommend you read the book - it's excellent and even more painful
This movie FAR exceeded my expectations this movie really hot in the feels. This movie reminds me of the movie 1984. Governments really do seem to put in policies in an attempt to steer entire populations futures towards more control and less liberties to a point people just accept it as the new norm. I'm from Kentucky and am indeed poor AF lol and to see our own world mirror the same willful decisions is truly sad great video man love ur work I'll be binge watching the series 😆
The author of the books Suzanne Collins has said 1984 is one of her favourite books just so you know
Late to the party and not sure if someone had already mentioned it but in the beginning when Katniss volunteers to take her sisters place, when no one claps and they give the 3 finger salute so to speak, they explain in the book that is a salute often used at funerals to show admiration and love for someone who has died.
@@RicoPresents, catching fire is best, hands down.

When you raised your hand for Rue, I subscribed. I can tell you're a genuine guy and I appreciate that. Nice reaction!!
Prim probably had night terrors when it was her first time her name was in
In the books, the dogs were a whole lot more terrifying... because there was 21 of them... want to know what else was 21? Dead tributes. Why does that matter? Because each dog had the same face as every one of the dead tributes
The last few days I’ve read the books for the first time, and I’ve seen the first movie, so I’ve come to see other people’s reactions to them. In the books things are explained way more, and gives the characters more dept! But that’s normally the case with book to movie adaptations!
No matter how many times I watch this movie, I still sob like a baby at Rue's death.
I fully understand why, because seeing it once and feeling what I felt I get you.
You're gonna love the 2nd movie 😁

28:48 It's good storytelling - what the story is is half the battle, how it's told is what makes or breaks it
