Wiring An In Cab Winch Switch On My Jeep TJ

In this video I wire in an in cab winch control switch into my Jeep TJ. I know this video is a bit old, but is it necessary to have the power switch to the winch switch or is that a safety precaution? Where I am mounting it, I am not worried someone will bump it.

5:19 Those rocker switches have a back light that you could wire into your instrument panel lights or park lights so it lights up when your lights are on.

The winch rope is from Olympus Off-road. Unfortunately their business did not survive Covid.

What gauge wire do the smittybilt winches need?

For the power wire for the winch I would go no less than a 2g wire. If you are running an in cab switch with additional relays I would use 14g from the relays to the winch solenoid and 16-20 from switch to relay. If not using an additional relay I would run 14 right to the switch as long as the switch can handle the load.

I did not like the video. I wanted to see how you wired up the momentary toggle. You didn't show that it was already done and you just showed us the obvious stuff.

Thank you for your feedback. I will keep this in mind for a future video. I will be doing another switch in the near future and I will try to include more information.
