- How to install a 2 din size or double din stereo system in your 1997 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The dash opening is different on the 1997-2002 and 2003-2006 Wrangler. The kit I installed is designed for the 03-06 Wrangler and is installed in my 2005 but with a different wiring harness and some slight modifications you can do the same thing to your 1997-2002 Wrangler as well. The Metra 95-6541 kit which is specific to the 2003-2006 TJ can be purchased on Amazon here a.co/aSYJ84R The one for the 1997-2002 Wrangler can be purchased here a.co/5L1H324 The setup isnt perfect for the 1997-2002 Wrangler and some of the mounting points may not line up perfectly. Just understand that there is some level of modification necessary to make it work well.

Thanks for video. The nut on back of radio was hard to remove but taking the top nuts loose allowed me to pull it out and get to it easier. Only took an hour with a trip to Autozone for an antenna extender cable.
I used this kit to install a single din Kenwood Stereo in my Wrangler TJ and installed a President single din citizen's band transceiver under the stereo. It looks great. I saw no need for a double din stereo but wanted to install the citizen's band transceiver off the transmission hump.

Hey mate. Got a TJ 2005 wrangler renegade that has stock 6 speakers, sub and I assume amp in the centre console next to sub.
Looking to replace stock stereo. New one uses ISO. So was just going to get new harness and splice to new Stereo harness. Do you know if doing this will still allow stock sub and amp to work?

To get the bolt off the radio is frustrating. I removed the two bracket nuts to move the radio slightly forward. That was still not enough so I had to hacksaw off part of the right wing of the bracket to move the radio even further to enable me to get into the back to remove the 10mm nut. As said in the video you have to remove the glove compartment on the passenger side. Finally got the nut off...use a short socket wrench for this if you can, just not enough room and you have to do all the work by feel. Have fun everyone (LOL)
How did you hook up the wire for the DVD function for the parking brake?
You can just ground it. Or dont do anything and adjust it in the settings menu. Very customizable.
Great video, just doing the initial homework on this type of upgrade. I have an 02 Wrangler and am wondering if they have this type of double din radio/navigation radio that works with an Apple iPhone or Car Play. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
a year late... but I just installed a double din touchscreen radio with wireless apple carplay in my jeep :) found it on amazon, any 7" should work

How long did this take you. I ordered the Sony ax3200 for my 2003 tj and I have the same factory stereo in my tj right now. Do you have the facotry amp amd sub and does it work with new stero by using the harness instead of plugging the amp amd sub into the rc Jack's on back of new stereo?
Will this kit suite a 99 tj jeep wrangler, where the climate control cover goes mine is square and the edges of the new kit are rounded. Any help muchly appreciated

It would be nice if you could re-use the anti theft bar. Don't know if you take your doors off much but I'd be worried about theft with mine. Either way, great video you made it look easy.
Back in my Honda days, I kept the anti theft bar off. Better to lose a radio than have a destroyed dash.

I have the same exact Jeep you do. Is there any touch screen radios you recommend that don’t require cutting out the plastic that holds the original radio?
The only ones that will fit without cutting are the single din style that have motorized flip out screens. I personally do not care for the look of them but you may like what it looks like.
How does the bottom panel (aux switches/12v outlet/etc.) transfer over.... I missed that part of the journey....

+MrAbsentdriver Since there is no CD drive it would do ok on bumps id imagine but def not waterproof. My jeep sees very little offroad time, although i do have a lot of bumpy roads out here since none of the roads are paved.

Yes it does. You have to open the a2dp app i think its called.
wish you would’ve shown what wiring adapters you used. no video on this site ever shows them wiring it in. we have the same factory harness yet i cannot find an adapter for it

Generic Android 7.1 double din radio. Hizpo brand from Amazon. And yes it works good.
I have a 97 so the air conditioning system is a little different. Does everything work the same way and does the air conditioner work properly after installation?

looking to replace stock radio in my wrangler TJ 2005. Dash and radio looks exactly like yours.
Was looking to put in a joying single din 8.8inch head unit. But after reading online i have read that if you have an amplifier aftermarket stereos dont always work.
My jeep came stock with 7 spearkers, Sub in the center dash between the 2 front seats and amplifier. I am led to believe the amp is also in the center dash, although have never pulled the dash apart to confirm.
I keep hearing issues with Infinity and boston compatibility especially when looking through various android head units on aliexpress. One store mentioned requiring the use of a CANBUS however 1 or 2 forums i have checked mention that the TJ did not use canbus protocol until the JK was released and i should have no issues plugging in after market stereo and having everything work .
Do you have any advise for person who has no ideas about the inner workings of cars

No can bus on the TJ's. after market amps will work with any head unit. some head units have a option to power on/off the amp. In my case it did NOT. I just wired in a switch to power on the amp when I wanted it on. But the head units with it - you can also use the Power ANT wire - same thing.
Question , did you need a new antenna to connect to the radio or did us use an adaptor to use the factory one?

Did your TJ had the factory subwoofer? if so did it work after? If so did you had to do something to make it work?
It worked. Didn't have to do anything. Just hook up the standard metra adapter harness.
Did your jeep have a factory sub and amp? If it did how did you wire it for the new radio?
The factory sub just works off of the speaker outputs so no special wiring is required.
Use a flat file to open up the radio bezel. Slow and clean.
Was there a wire for screen dimming with the headlights already in the jeep? Mines been messed with before so I'm not sure if I have everything

I did the same with double din kenwood but i noticed my factory subwoofer in arm rest console don't work i wish you showed how you wired up and showed that all speakers work if tou jeep has a console subwoofer mime a 2005 jeep lj unlimited rubicon
Subwoofer is probably just bad. This hooks in to factory speaker wiring. Nothing else to do.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone the problem was when I hook up new wiring harness I didn't connect the blue wires that turn on amp I didn't know you need to do this on a factory wired amp ,now it works but really sounds like crap so I going to disconnect the factory amp blue wire connection and maybe use my other subwoofer box I don't need too much sound to be heard down block just good sound in jeep or i may use my 6x9 speaker box. What did you do about the parking brake wiring? Did you bypass?
Just left it disconnected. You can optionally ground it, but it can be disabled in settings so there is really no need.
I also have an 05 tj. How much of a pain was the wiring?

"Jack of all trades, master of none" My dad used to say that, really it's a stupid saying because his garage is usually a mess. If you want to manage you have to master all trades! Just except that as possible because when you own a house or have a home where ever you choose to reside you have to master all trades to enjoy an organised living area! Happy homes people! How did you remove the Honda logo and add Jeep ?
Its in the factory settings menu. You can google it on how to get there. Its slightly different for each Android radio.

@@blurglide Not specifically. This unit has a backup camera input. I know some companies make splitters that can accept multiple cameras and you can change the view on an external.device. I don't know the specifics though.

This model is no longer made. Just search for "double din Android radio" on Amazon or eBay to find something comparable.
Theft concerns is what makes me pause from pulling the trigger with this....I have a detachable faceplate now so I rest easy...Does anybody make a cover to hide screen perhaps?

So this dash kit is for a 7 inch screen?
It is for a double din stereo. In my case small trimming was necessary since a european spec headunit was installed, which is slightly larger than a USA spec double din. And the screen was a 7inch screen

Mine work the best w/doors off
I have top slidding windows that slide sideways. They also come off and only the bottom half of the door is left. I can also take off the entire door and make it a strap on vehicle. When crossing a prairy, I lower the windscreen and then I have no doors, top, windows, nor windscreen. I love my antiquated 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ. We started our life together in 1996 and she has been with me ever since. I can also take off all the windows and leave only the canvas top on for some shade. I love my dear Windi forever.

Lots of jeeps. But my 94. My bad, 4 cylinder. Got to 130k, everything leaked it was losing power (what little power it had) was still in college. Always a problem w/o2 sensor and cat ?

@@keithcerce8445 You owe it to yourself to test drive the JL. The engine auto stop and start design flaw is horrible. I took it back in less than a mile after pushing the button to bypass the button should B e to activate that stupid design flaw, not deactivate it. I will not be paying for something I hate just to find a way to permanently bypass it. The dashboard was terrible as well. But the rest of the Jeep was not bad at all. I still did not want it because of that forced design flaw of engine stop and start feature. There is no possible way an engine that goes to zero oil pressure at stop and then restarts over and over again will last as long as an engine allowed to idle and maintain proper oil pressure. I may still get a JL when they are a few years old and the price goes down. Then I would be willing to pay for a bypass for the stupid engine auto stop and start. But I am not willing to purchase one new or even almost new just to bypass something I was forced to pay for.
