I don't care what anyone else says, grass silage is the super crop as usual, in FS22. 2.5 to 4.5 cuts per year (if you roll just after harvest), low operating costs, flexible harvest schedule, easy and high-capacity transport, and gives you plenry of time to farm in between...or you can literally just watch your grass grow. Small scale grass silage should be part of everyone's game start. The only thing that limits you is that eventually the high price will struggle to make average price during the winter, because you have sold so much silage!!
As usual another great tutorial video, thank you. One thing, the Krone Big X will tow a trailer and fill it with the cut grass or chaff automatically. This will save you a step, not to mention the additional expense of a forage wagon.
When you were talking about Balers and the combo wrapper that is included on them, I have found and use the Pottinger Impress 185VC Pro Baler and Wrapper Combo. The reason is that it lets you chose 3 sizes for Bales, 120, 150, and 180. The 120 and the 150 will get wrapped for Silage, but the 180 does not (so you can use it for Grass Bales, and anything non-silage). I use the round bales because the Round Bale loader can hold 24 bales which is more then double of the Square Bale Loaders.
This tip at 4:42 is so valuable. I'm a new player and I thought I was doing something wrong. I did a few meters, and had 998l, then I gave it to the Helper and noticed the amount wasn't going down. I tried everything for quite a while and ended up doing the field myself :) Thanks for the tip. That should be off by default :)
Hey not sure if you know this but the grass (specific) rollers will set the growth state from harvested to growing. Saving a day. They also add a fertilizer layer, while weeding. It's a must do for grass as you will not waste money on fertilizer anymore. And you remove the harvested state.
It feels like the waste of time you spend rolling is more of a waste than that little bit of money you spend on fertilizer but it is much quicker. I have quite a few fields and spend 1.4k per harvest, and fertilizing is super quick with the wide machines.
@@y33t23 your statement makes zero sense. you save a day! Because it removes the harvested state and puts it into the first growth stage. So save your 10 mins ill save a whole day.
@@Bubzishere Reallife time, either take ages rolling with a small roller or be done in 5 minutes with an extremely wide range fertilizer spreader. The real life time you spend on rolling is not worth the little bit of money you spend on fertilizer.
Just a tip for bailing if you have a lot of straw on fields and want to have silage or hay pick up 51% of hay and 49% of straw it will always creat a bail depends on what most is in there. Even you can start with straw up to 48% and then rest with hay or grass to silage and it will create bail of the 51% ingreedient.
It looks like this might have been addressed, but I don't have the time to read all the comments, but I see a couple that appear to suggest this. Like with any other arable crop, if you roll the field right after seeding, it'll bump up your yield for at least that first harvest. Each and every time after you've cut, handled and collected everything from the field roll it again. This instantly bumps the crop status from "harvested" to "growing", while also giving you your 2nd fertilizer state. There's also the option to add a silage additive, which is a tank on the loading wagon. This increases your silage yield in some way, not 100% sure on how or where the numbers work out, I've not gotten that far with silage yet. (Still too busy building up my far on NMsL) Great info video tho. These were great when I first started playing, and they're the reason why I'm able to play it as well as I do today. I always found it far easier with lime to just take the spreader to a lime station on the map and buy in bulk, directly into the spreader, rather than mess around with the pallets from the store.
Easier, yes. Maybe even simpler. But it’s so fun trying to stuff 4 pallets into a tiny pallet trailer with a giant wheel loader bc why not. I’ve just discovered this game and the physics engine is hilarious and makes for some funny moments (or infuriating lol)
if you start with 3-4k liters of hay in a loading wagon, any grass you pick up afterward will turn to hay. This eliminates the need to ted grass and is a great time saver.
I like that Directseed mod in the Farming Simulator 22 mod hub. It lets that amazon seeder be a direct drill. It only lets the ones that have a harrow on it..
I tested my baling equipment on the grass surrounding my fields and found that if I cut, bale and wrap, I can make 50,000€ on the peak silage sale. Thanks for the helpful vid.
Lol yup I am newbe. I was waiting for the growth on th filed. So got bored and tried grass silage on the sounding feilds. I make more profit from the grass than field itself. Totally sticking with grass silage for now it's is also one of the easiest thing to do in this game.
@@munnumkhalid There's alot of little things you can do in the game that you have to find out for yourself. One example is I baled some grass but didn't wrap it. Also the baler wasn't attached to a tractor to do this. I thought that was pretty neat.
Hey, you make some great videos but you missed you really key points with grass if you have seasons turned on. Grass won't grow in December, January, and February. You can harvest it during those months but if you harvest in November then you won't get a growth stage until March. Also, grass takes 3 months to grow during March to November. First month it will say "growing" second month it will say "ready to harvest" but will have a about a 30-40% less yield and will visually look shorter, and the third month it will also say "ready to harvest" but will visually look much longer and will give max yield. I think you should have a good look how grass works with seasons on because its pretty cool!
Did you test it out? I saw the visual difference too but no where in game there is any hint to it. I do it like that so I just get three harvests per year so more yield would make sense.
@@y33t23 My main income for my current playthrough is from grass silage, so not "testing" but experiencing it through my playthrough. So if I cut the grass in Nov then I won't see a growth stage until April. So on that schedule it would be full growth in June, then again in September, and only a mid growth in November with no additional growth stages until April again.
I know I'm two year's late to this party. But just to note, if you are playing multiple days per month, if you leave the grass about 5 days after the tedder, the hay will turn its natural yellow colour when baled.
Wrapping balers will give you grass bales if you ramp up the size. I believe the bale wrapper will only wrap if you have automatic-drop turned off. If it's on, it will auto drop the bale out the back without having wrapped it, like you experienced in your video. That's how my bale wrappers work anyway. Excellent video!

If you used the first expensive lawn mower, picked the grass up with the forager wagon and emptied it, then used a Tedder would that still make the same amount of hay?
Great video! Have a question though. If you have an existing grass field and periodic plowing is turned on. Do you have to plow and reseed? Or is there a sub soiler that leaves it seeded?
As long as you plowed it before you planted grass if it said it needed it youll be fine. Basically if it says it needs it, plow it and replant grass to avoid the penalty and yoy wont have to worry after that
@FarmerCop Thanks! My issue was the field required plowing when the world loaded, so I ended up having to plow and reseed. Just didn't want to do that broke beginning of game. You can sell them at some points on most maps, if not just place a sell everything modded sell point BUT the better thing to do is lease or buy a bale wrapper and wrap them, then they ferment into silage and are worth a lot more.
Hey Farmer cop, what would be the point of collecting bulk grass or hay with the wagon in lieu of baleing it? Can you sell bulk grass/bay just like bales?
Also, when you collect grass in bulk, and put it in a bunkersilo, then press it down with a silo roller or a heavy vehicle, it becomes sileage twice as fast as baling it and wrapping!
A nice little tip for the novacat mowers, if you attach the wider 'rear' mower to your front 3 point, and the 'front' mower to the rear, you'll be way less likely to miss grass on turns, where if you have it mounted as you're supposed to, you'll usually miss some. Ai don't like them mounted this way, so bear that in mind
Since moving to PC, I prefer baling. No 200 Bale limit on PC as in console, can use followme (when it comes out) to do a train, mowing, merging, baling, wrapping, and pickup all at once. Also, easy to transport with autoload bale trailers (even the stock game round bale autoloader is awesome, it can carry 130k silage, far more than loose silage). Silage bales are easier to store as well, especially has autoload bale barns come out. Bit in general, you can put silage bales ANYWHERE while waiting to ferment and sell. You can even pre-position them while they ferment by a sellpoint - just wait for high price, and bring your autoload trailer or tele/wheel loader, and shove them in. As with FS19, you can't use the silage pits at the BGA until you buy it, but you can store your bales there...for free. I'm waiting for a mod that will bale cornsilage from a chopper - they do exist IRL, and they are awesome
I think it depends entirely on use, if you're doing mass silage, either to sell, power a biogas plant, or for cow feed, forage wagon and bunker silos are far better than baling imo, but if youre cutting grass for sheep, I prefer to bale. For hay it's user preference, it usually takes 4 steps anyway, so one more to load the bales isn't a huge deal imo
So I just got FS 22 and I got like 500 or 600 hours on FS 19. I got a field of grass that been harvest and I let several months pass and its not regrowing. Am I missing something with FS 22 grass vs FS 19 grass regrowing just curious
My grass seed isnt growing. Skipped through like a week in game and still nothing. But info box says its growing. So confused why its not sprouted at all yet
Does mowing the grass by itself and bailing into square bales by itself worth it for the money or is better to turn mowed grass into silage for the money ?
@@chrisiverson257 Yes, I think they are two different kinds of rollers - one to roll the ground after planting crops, and the other for grassland care.

Poettinger Novacat mowers can widespread or do rows also :) Btw really nice video, thx :)
The Vicon/Kverneland also merges.
You know when you have the big bales , how on earth do you move them
Autostack trailer or frontloader equipment :)
Which is better bailing or wagon?
That my friend, is all a matter of perspective.
It should regrow, I am not sure why it wouldn't be regrowing for you, make sure growth is on.
I figured it out after mowing you have to used the grass care roller
@@tyrroyoung2317 you shouldn't *have* to, that's weird if it forces you too before it will regrow
where do I find the AI Helper charges for working for me?
It will show you how much they charge in the finance screen each day, there is no way to view their rate
Do you have to use the grass roller or can you just re-fertilizer after harvesting?
You do not have to use the grass roller, i never do, i just throw fertilizer out
What mod do you use to speed it up that fast? And is it in the downloadable content tab?
Time Scale I believed is what its called and it is available in the modhub for PC/MAC
Cannot find a way to change swath on xbox
Part of your intro Clip looks sort of like Officer 401's... are you familiar with his content?
How do u pick up the seed on ps5
My grass seed isnt growing. Skipped through like a week in game and still nothing. But info box says its growing. So confused why its not sprouted at all yet
Make sure plant growth is not set to off in your settings
7:21 this is not a good representation as grass doesnt grow during the winter months.
It does with seasons off and as mentioned in the video seasons is turned off in the video
Does mowing the grass by itself and bailing into square bales by itself worth it for the money or is better to turn mowed grass into silage for the money ?
Silage, or feed it to sheep.
I thought you had to dry it first
Same
I don't know much about farming but why do people plant grass when there was already grass.🤔
Sorry if my English is not good. I'm from germany.
Planted grass can be fertilized and you get more yield than the grass thats just there :)
My seeds don’t wanna go in the same seeder so idk
How does rolling work
Why did i think of Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb when I saw the color for fields the need lime
But why do I need grass, hay, or silage?
To sell for money or to fee animals :)
What map is this please ?
Elmcreek
With other crops, you often use a roller immediately after planting. Does this apply to grass?
I have not tested that to be honest
You can but definitely after harvest.
@@chrisiverson257 Yes, I think they are two different kinds of rollers - one to roll the ground after planting crops, and the other for grassland care.
Which map is this ?
