GUYS: (for the table of values) The zeroes (x-intercepts) are when Y = 0, not when X = 0 SO for example in the eqn. y= 1/2 (x+4) (x-6) you make an x y table of values from -4 to 6, plugging in those values into the eqn. for X Then, the y-intercept is revealed as well (0,-12) and the zeros are (-4,0) (6,0) Another way to do it without subbing in the -4 to 6 values: sub in x = 0 y = 1/2 (0+4) (0-6) y= -12 and y=0 1/2 (x+4) (x-6) x = -4 or x = 6
very helpful! But I think you overcomplicated finding the zeros. You just have to look in the brackets (x-s)(x-t) and the intercepts will be (s,0) and (t,0) but with opposite symbols

Hence what is shown as (1/2) *( x--6)(x-+2) = y y1= (x-6) is one straight line and (x+2) =y2 is another straight line and the zeros are clearly seen. Multiplying these shifted straight lines will give the full range of the parabola note that + * + = + and -- * -- = + hence both horns of the parabola extend up and out. other higher orders can be looked upon as y= (x -a)(x-b)(x-c)(x-d)(x-e) and the products of these straight lines can give the cubic etc orders . Plotting straight lines and multiplying them is a good way of looking after " quadratics "
At 4:18 you say that the x value for the vertex needs to be two away from each x intercept point, which should be four since theres a gap of eight between minus two and six ;-)
idk if this helps but in the equation y=a(x-p)(x-q) the p and q are the two x intercepts so in others words if its x-2 then the intercept is 2. then you find the midpoint of the two x intercepts to find the x coordinate of the vertex and then you plug the answer of the midpoint back into orginal equation in first sentence above to find y value

I dislike mathmaticians that introduce useless concepts so we highschoollers have to suffer learning these "algebra" that will have no effect in anyones life. :/
algebra is used in most forms of maths, even the division symbol involves algebra where the dots represent the numerator and denominator of a fraction. its also a bit much to say that algebra will have NO effect in ANYONEs life, it's easy to say that it's already affected my career choice. "we highschoollers" have two main subjects that will get us the furthest with careers: English for communication in general, and maths for most careers. For example my mum is currently studying psychology in Uni and a large part of it is graphing. you're allowed to dislike it but speak for yourself

towards the end when you plug in the number for x to solve for y, shouldn't we be plugging in -2 not positive 2?
i know this is 11 months old but hes plugging in the 2 that is in between the -2 and the 6 because that's the one that's the x axis for the parabola.
