Saw him multiple times in the 70's. Best live shows ever! Taken too soon. His battered 61 Strat and all his equipment just sold at auction. There was a great deal done between collectors, the family, and the Irish government to allow the Strat to be sold at a relatively low price ($1.1 million) and be donated to the people of Ireland. I expected the Strat actually had value of $3-5 million. Sheena Crowley, the daughter of the gentleman who sold him the Strat, raised $$ for a Cork Music Museum and managed to get some of the other guitars. The people bidding realized that important pieces of equipment needed to stay in Ireland.
I fully agree with what you said about Rory and his band, we must have rubbed shoulders at some of those concerns gigs, I’m also very delighted that Rory’s main guitar and some of his other guitars and equipment have stayed in Ireland and is now fully owned by the Irish people .Rory’s Strat is one of Ireland’s greatest treasures and will be looked on in years to come in similar light as Brian Boru’s harp. I am also one of those very lucky people who now own one of Rory’s rare guitars so from now on I will be putting in many hours, days, weeks, months and years of practice to try to learn how to play it a little

Joe Bonamassa coming to Cork in July to play the whole of Rory's 'Irish Tour 74' album. A worthy guitarist to take on that challenge. Hope Rory's 61 strat gets to make an appearance.
