  • At the end of Kobe's great career, he has said multiple times how Tony Allen was by far his toughest matchup. His physicality and relentless to continue competing was unlike anyone else and this gave Kobe Bryant problems. Today, we go into why Tony Allen was able to hold his ground. If Tony Allen only developed a jump shot, he could be on the court longer and be known as an even greater defensive player than he already is. bc of his inability to shoot or be a play maker, he maxed out at about 27 MPG. In terms of perimeter defense, Tony was one of the best I've seen along the likes of Gary Payton and Scottie.

Kawhi was not as maniacal on defense as Tony was, I know kawhi won 2 dpyo but in my opinion Tony was extremely better on defense then kawhi, look at what Tony did to lebron in those cavs years he clamped lebron into oblivion when they put him on him specially game 6 of the 2008 ecsf also durant throughout his career. Kawhi let kd drop a 50 bomb when kd was with the warriors. The best defenders in nba history to me are Bill rusell, Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace, Jordan, the glove, cooper, Tony Allen, the ticket, Ron Artest in his prime (not when he joined kobe) and maybe kobe.

Dray is a great individual defender as well though. Not on quick and shifty guys, but he frequently holds his own on the block against much bigger guys and can typically keep up with moderately fast perimeter players (because there are few “slow” perimeter players)

That's bc they're popular. Kobe got a ton of love as a defender when many say he wasn't as deserving of. KG and Dray are also good when it comes to low-post defense which is individual defense. Guys like KG tend to be the last line of defense and arguably do more defensively bc they can communicate with the perimeter defender on where the pick is coming from, which side he has help in, and has to close in/ collapse on the offensive player if he gets through his defender.

i’m curious as to whether the stats and tape together show shane battier to be better or worse guarding kobe compared to tony allen.
Shane battier was obviously not as quick, strong and aggressive as tony allen (so he couldn’t gamble for steals or blocks as much). But he did his homework, followed the gameplan to a tee, was unafraid of pushing kobe towards help (even though that might not make him look as cool as other defenders), and disciplined enough to play the mind games perfectly by never trash talking kobe and constantly downplaying his defensive impact in interviews.
He also was completely ok with kobe scoring on him; battier knew all he could do was push kobe to his weaker spots, and if kobe still scored 40, but just did it at a slightly lower efficiency, so be it.

Allen was an agent of chaos, and one of the most singularly driven players I've ever had the pleasure to watch night in and out in Boston. The Celtics' defensive focus gave him room to shine, but I think it also limited his development on the offensive side of the court - he was a ruthless defender, and gave that his all, knowing there were stud scorers all around him. But it also meant he never transitioned to help out much on O. He was so marvelous, and such an important player, it's hard to say it's a shame how things played out, but I cant imagine what a terror he would have been with a steady jumper.

God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). We’re not sinners because we sin, but rather we sin because we’re sinners. Sin is the nature of our flesh that we are born with due to the sin of Adam in the garden. For someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless. We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23), and the the law demands death for those who sin (Romans 6:23). God is righteous, so He must punish our sin, which is what He did through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is Holy and sinless, yet He received our sin when He died on the cross, so that we can be righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). When He died on the cross, He said “It is finished” (John 19:30), which means He paid the full price for all of your sins (past, present, and future) to be forgiven. He was buried and rose again from the dead. God will forgive anybody who puts their full trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We aren’t saved based on our good deeds, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). His precious blood that He shed is the only reason why we can be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 9:22). If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9). You are born-again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and are not only legally justified before God, but also are accredited His righteous (Romans 4:24). Believers live for Christ now, so get to know Him through His Word. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online videos!
