    I had a Sprite mk 3 in 1973. I would take it out after work and go driving all over New York City until I was so tired I couldnt take it anymore (around 3 a.m.) . Next morning I had to go to work ! I loved that little car. The steering was so quick and the heater was very good. Great in cold northern winters . Kept the cabin nice and toasty. Top went up or down with one hand. Very fun car.

    Sweet! I had an opportunity to buy one in it's original BRG color. Alas, I was 20 and my parents flipped out and forbade me to buy this car. I did take it out, test drive it, and it was FUN. I bought something "safer", but it was never this fun.

    Lovely little car and area. I remember that area as we used to go to Ft Flagler to volunteer. Did that for 7 years.

    Amazingly civilized for a Sprite. Roll up windows! I had a 62 Sprite in college. Frame supported top with plexiglas screw on windows. Great car, fun to drive. Starter was engaged by a knob on the dash, not turning the key to a start position.

    Really a beautiful video of a concourse car. You drive it the way it should be driven - use the gears and the revs but without strain. Ain't that short throw gearbox fantastic tho. Smooth as silk. I've got a 65 rolling restoration project. One day it will look like this!

    Beautiful Sprite! This one is surprisingly quite compared to my 1098cc MK2.

      Thanks! I don't remember the date of manufacture, but it's a later '67, 1275 with the folding top.

    Wow, what a great job! O.O
    Is that a dark British racing green (Gr29) ?

    • @gigpete
      @gigpete  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! No, I don't know the paint code for that Sprite. It was a nice dark version of BRG, just a hair on the olive side, like Sunbeam Alpine's of the period. My favorite version of BRG for sure.

    I beautiful car for sure! One question for you - would you say there's enough room for someone who's 6'3" to drive this car?

    • @gigpete
      @gigpete  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are height limitations for Sprites and Midgets. Somewhere around your height you probably start looking over the top of the windshield or lack headroom with the top up. The stock seats can be moved back pretty far, thanks the being bolt upright, but then getting in can still be a challenge due to the very short doors. Shorter legs or great flexibility preferred.

    Im about to buy a 67 today. What seats are those? Can you find them online or were they custom made?

    • @gigpete
      @gigpete  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck with your purchase! Yes, stock seats, rebuilt with new foams and upholstery. Every part if these great little cars is available online. I like AH Spares and RimmerBros in the UK for best quality items, and then Moss Motors and its affiliates offer a lot in the US. Here is an example of a seat upholstery kit: mossmotors.com/mg-midget-austin-healey-sprite/upholstery-interior-trim/seats-seat-kits/front-seat-kit-mid-1965-68
      Nice seats make an interior!

    My father was a BMC/British Leyland dealer in the 60’s and 70’s. A new sprite identical to this one was shipped to Detroit and from there loaded on a single vehicle trailer to be delivered to Grand Rapids. On the way it was hit on the highway and totaled. What to do with it?, make it a F Production SCCA race car. It won its division championship in 68 driven by my father. A 1275 powered sprite or midget is pretty much a street legal go cart and it takes a few days for the smile to wear off your face every time you drive it.
