- The Okavango Delta is one of the most inaccessible places on the planet. It is a paradise wetland, and most of the Delta is only accessible by plane. We are taking our Land Rover Defender deep into the Delta to see how far we can get.
We start in Khwai at the east side of the Okavango. here one can find animals everywhere, even have traffic jams due to way too many giraffes. We are going towards Maun. The road connecting Khwai and Maun is incredible, most of the time straight, with a very bright white sand color. We were having fun cruising , when we decided to swap, so I could take the wheel. Just right after, the weather turned bad, really, really bad. Rains in Botswana can be very heavy as we learnt this day. The road turned into a swimmingpool.
In Maun we celebrated Irati's birthday (Okavango brewery) before driving deep into the Okavango Delta. We didn't have a route or plan and we didn't know how far we could get and if we would find water.
After several days exploring we decide to head towards Maun and join last minute a Flying Safari over the Okavango Delta. Let me tell you flying over the Okavango Delta is once in a lifetime experience.

Would not have guessed that there was a brewery out there. Came in handy for a birthday celebration.
We couldn't believe it, but when we started researching at lunch were happily surprised. Amazing beer and burgers, they even do a veggie burger that is at the level of the beef one. Was a good way of celebrating 🥳
Another wonderful episode! Andrew St Pierre and Gwynn White wrote a book called Torn Trousers where they gave up their jobs to run a camp in the Okavango Delta.

The Delta is a fantastic place, spent a night camping on an island listening to Lions hunting Zebra on the neighbouring island which we had been walking around earlier that day. Also had an encounter with a Croc that didn’t like us using his stretch of river
It is really a fantastic place. And pretty untouched in most of the Delta! We cannot afford going to any of the lodges deep in the Delta. But it needs to be really incredible. We had our share of lion and hyenas at night in Khwai 😱
@@Thebluelandy yeah I’ve never done any of the fancy Lodge camping in Africa, my budget is more 2 man dome tent with minimal facilities, the delta is definitely a place I’d like to return to when my wife and I do our big trip in a couple of years.

We did and will meet other Overlanders and TH-camrs. but also in this occasions sometimes it’s better to put the camera down and enjoy the moment with some instead for shooting everything to get more traction.

I think you made a mistake not going into Moremi … but glad you enjoyed the area.
Yeah, we had heard many good things about Moremi. In the end we picked and chose NPs to limit our spendings. We wanted to do something different after Chobe and as we got our birthday gifts we decided to choose the the safari flight. 🤷We enjoyed it a lot! Sometimes one cannot do everything 😅

Thank you and happy that you liked it 🎉 currently we talk most of the time in English. When we were living together in Germany we used German all the time, so I (Irati) could improve. But on the road it's difficult to keep this! Kai cannot talk Spanish (yet 😉) so the only things we say to each other in Spanish are simple, but important words: comida, cerveza, hasta mañana 🤣🤣🤣

how much did you pay for your flight
Hey!! I think we paid 120$ per person. This was the price for 6 people on a plane. There are bigger planes with more passengers and I guess price would drop to 100$ per person. We normally don't do expensive activities, as we don't have the budget, but we both had birthday in March and our family gave us some money for such an event.happy that we did, totally worth it!! 🙌🙌🙌
