Jungle adventure on the Kapa Kapa Trail: #6 - Local encounters & wildlife in Papua New Guinea

In episode 6 of my trek on the Ghost Mountain / Kapa Kapa Trail in Papua New Guinea, I share some of the things I see along the way. A dangerous bird, a deadly snake, a giant grasshopper, and more - jungle hiking is interesting.

In this video I talk more about the experience of the World War II soldiers who hiked on this trail - the Ghost Mountain boys of the 32nd Red Arrow Division. They spent over a month hiking over the Owen Stanley Mountains, dealing with malaria, dysentery, and other ailments. I talk about how I got sick and my crazy fever dreams. And learn why I sometimes still say "It's not far, only 3 mountains."

My father was with the 32nd in New Guinea. Luckily, he didn’t have to hike the Kappa Kappa. He started smoking in New Guinea. “You always kept a cigarette going, using them to make the Leeches let go”…George F Myra Sgt, 32nd Infantry Division. Three years in New Guinea and the Philippines.
