  • In episode 6 of my trek on the Ghost Mountain / Kapa Kapa Trail in Papua New Guinea, I share some of the things I see along the way. A dangerous bird, a deadly snake, a giant grasshopper, and more - jungle hiking is interesting.
Plus learn about the 'bush telegraph' that happens in the jungle and the bushcrafting skills of the people who live here. You can hear the story of how we got lost in the jungle.
In this video I talk more about the experience of the World War II soldiers who hiked on this trail - the Ghost Mountain boys of the 32nd Red Arrow Division. They spent over a month hiking over the Owen Stanley Mountains, dealing with malaria, dysentery, and other ailments. I talk about how I got sick and my crazy fever dreams. And learn why I sometimes still say "It's not far, only 3 mountains."

My father was with the 32nd in New Guinea. Luckily, he didn’t have to hike the Kappa Kappa. He started smoking in New Guinea. “You always kept a cigarette going, using them to make the Leeches let go”…George F Myra Sgt, 32nd Infantry Division. Three years in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Thank you for sharing your amazing adventure with us and letting the world know about the 32nd ID.
