    Why keep a dog in a kennel? They only want to be with their humans. One of the family!

    • @ridgeviewhomestead3900

      It's only for when no one is home to watch him but so far we've had zero success in him not breaking out. He's an inside dog the rest of the time.

      Ridge View Homestead glad to hear that!
      You might want to line it with chicken wire on the outside.

    What wire did you use? You might have to come back and do the bottom edges of the enclosure itself. Looks like a very smart pup.

      Just what we had on hand. Might need to use something different.

    We had what looks like the same one kennel when we were building our homestead. We had a tarp secured to the top, and two sides -- not too different from yours. One night during a storm the thing got airborne and started rolling. It got about 40' before it fell apart. There were no animals in it -- we only used it during the day to get the cats used to the new area. Just a head's up!

      We experienced that same thing last night. No pets were in it.

    A couple ideas: put distractions like chewies, a tunnel etc AND spend time inside with him playing, cuddling so he knows it's a fun, safe place.

    Oh I forgot to say. We put 3 sides up against our garage and attached it, the 4th piece we secured to the top then put the tarp up there. We also put a couple of straw bales inside, Bella loved laying on them, we didn't have a dog house.

    I had one for my German Shepherd, it took her less than 5 mins to get out. They aren't made well or for strong footed dogs. We had to put a metal sheet on the door. We drilled holes all around it and tied it to the sides. It was the only thing that held. We used it only to let her get fresh air, basically a few hours a day. They hate being separated from their humans. He will get used to it eventually. You can try putting some toys and ropes in there with him.

    That Kennel for $300.00 is a complete ripoff. Get your money back! Complain to the management. you shouldn't have to spend all that time fixing it. That is insane.

    Our dog did the same thing. She pulled at the wire with her teeth. The fiction caused grooves in the teeth and later the teeth broke off. Please watch out for him gnawing the fence, it will ruin his teeth. I don't know a good solution, maybe line the bottom half with wood?

    • @ridgeviewhomestead3900
      @ridgeviewhomestead3900  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip. I never thought of that. That would be horrible. We thought of wood and probably will end up doing something like that. He needs a safe place to be when no one is home.

    May I suggest he be given the bones sold in the dog food section. He also needs some toys especially for teething puppies. Was he accustomed to running free before she got him. If not I feel he is lonely and is looking for things to do. If I may ask, why was the kennel placed in such a barren rocky place ?

    • @ridgeviewhomestead3900
      @ridgeviewhomestead3900  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn't all of Arkansas rocky like that, lol? He was in a kennel before Monica got him so he is probably missing his kennel friends. However, he is a puppy and needs lots of attention.

      Ridge View Homestead, thank you for taking time to answer. I have mostly descent dirt here on the former AFB near Blytheville. However, the place I grew up in town was all gumbo. Take care, will be watching for your next renovation video.

    300$ for a 10' x 10' x6' chain link fence with a gate is a good price. It's not the manufacturer's fault that that pup wants out... hated to hear him howl and cry at the end....

    John, you had me scared. I have a hard time keeping your channel and Stephen from Hickory Ridge Homestead straight. I saw the title and kind of panicked. I know he is kind of blowing it off, but his accident with losing his front teeth... well he is in my prayers. I will pray Monica finds a good way to keep her puppy safe and entertained.

    That type of dog at that age needs to be tired out with exercise and play a few times a day. Regardless of the kennel abilities to keep him in the dog is lonely and bored.

    • @ridgeviewhomestead3900
      @ridgeviewhomestead3900  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, and he gets lots of play time but there are times when his humans may not be home so he needs a safe place to be during those times.

    • @AfterTheRains
      @AfterTheRains 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ridge View Homestead, of course, and that’s acknowledged. He has no chew toys or indeed, any toys at all. A puppy needs something to chew on when teething. That is an animal with a clever brain which needs stimulation. Labradors (particularly at puppy stage) are known to be chewers when bored.

    Ive had that brand and others for years.To make it effective...first..get a utility panel 4"×4"×16. Cut in half longways then trim off ends...lay on ground put under kennel panels. Then two ..one across front,one across back.Put more metal wire along bottom. Then...this you must do. Wire a 16" utility panel across along bottom on inside of kennel panel.Now no chewing.Its now secure.Also you can put it on horse stalls but thats too much work.With the panels and kennel its a poor mans dream.Or,go buy a Tarter kennel for $700.
