I borrowed the pictures from "Musicalisches Theatrum" von Johann Christoph Weigel ( 1661- 1725) as engravings to the book by Johann Mattheson ( good fellow of G.-F. Händel) " Das Neu - Eröffnete Orchestre", chapter " Von den Musicalischen Instrumenten". Hamburg; 1713.
This book include 36 engravings.
Thank you ! :-)

This video should appear at 1th April to the Birthday of John Wilmot Earl of Rochester, but I couldn´t do it properly.
Now, a bit later - Happy Birthday , Your Lordship!
Such a dream duo! The person who managed to make this duet possible should get a knighthood at the very least!
Jaroussky and Scholl thogheter! what sublime!
My two favourite singers, brilliant!
I love both of Andreas Scholl and Philippe Jaroussky. the voices, the music, the combine, all is great, magic ! hearing you sing, do not need anything, everything is unmeaning!
I love both of the very much.
Wonderful song!
so pure, rich and delicate performance , i guess Purcell himself would have been extatic if he could have witnessed !
The magnificence of this performance consist, beside the quality of their singing, in how different voices they have. Amazing!
And most of all ,they are bound by a deep long term friendship
High time these two fantastic singers recorded an album together.
I love Andreas! He is great!
Absolutely. Lovely sound, classy singing.
Overall I've got School down as the best in the world with Jaroussky close behind, but I'm not so sure about his Purcell. He seems better with Vivaldi.
Petite précision pour les puristes : la petite musique de début et de fin , c 'est "Come ye sons of art ! "
Wonderful blend of voice and instruments not drowned out by the singers
Wunderbar. Magnifique. Respects.
magnifique célébration de la vie
Love it. This is REAL music.
Magnificent! Adorable duet. Thanks. Love it. It is a treasure.
Amazing duet:. God´s voices...
Dos maravillosos contratenores cantando juntos!! Una caricia para el alma!!
MAGNIFIQUE... tout simplement.
Like Sutherland and Horne, there seems to be in the combination of Scholl and Jaroussky's voices something so perfect and so right.
Великолепное исполнение! Волшебные голоса!
Совершенно все, и вокал, и музыка. Спасибо! Безупречное исполнение!!!
unbeatable for next 400 years ... or even longer. The best music and the best performance.
Fabulous. Love the 'hunting horn' at 1:17-1:20! The only thing that spoiled it for me was the upper octave at the end.
This is the best recording in all "Sound the trumpet".
I like the Dellers, father and son better.

Und welche ist besser?
What about Bowman and Chance?
This is so beautiful! Pure perfection.
Un regalo para la audición sin precedentes..... sublimes
Me alucina Scholl, creo que la homogeneidad, definición y pureza de emisión de su voz no tiene parangón en otros contratenores.
He is simply the best,
this warmth, elegance,
lightness, softness,
like velvet . . .
Brilliant!
Great selection of images for great voices! Thanks for coming back, dear Jana!
I'm a huge fan of other English composers, notably Vaughan Williams, Finzi, and Britten, but I will always enjoy and respect the music of Purcell.
I'm actually dying of perfection right now... swoon...
Brillantissime!

Lool scholls rearticulaton of sound in the first repeat, dunno why that made me giggle
Wow.
Is there any video about this perfomance??
Jaroussky has a voice that allows him to dominate all contratenor repertoire, from Purcell to Vivaldi. It is unfortunate that there are so very few talented contratenors.
I agree, Jaroussky is the best, but there are lots of very good contertenors these days! Maximilian Cencic for instance or Maarten Engeltjes. But maybe you should look for altus instead of countertenor.
Look, it sounds lovely, but it also sounds quite "foreign" to an English ear. The arrangement sounds quite "busy". When one compare this to the companion pieces in the "Funeral March for Queen Mary" is sounds as if it is from an earlier century. But I stress again that is to an English ear. The English "style" in most things is to pare everything back.
Purcell was England's last great composer.
Jim P Freddy Mercury?
I meant what I said!
Britten, Elgar, Handel (by adoption as he spent the last 47 years of his life in Britain ) Vaughan Williams??
It's not opinion, it's fact. That's enough from you, now.
I'll grant Handel is great, but he's really Italian. The rest...puhleez.
And jarousskys 'all'
