    • @RoamingInterests

      a pool has 3 holes at least these above ground pools. two are smaller for the 1.25 inch hoses those connect to a T split hose and the take the water from the pool into the pump to filter it. The return from the pump in the pool has a plunger valve that uses the 1.5 inch hose. That is the way to big nozzle, so a 1.5 inch hose should thread into that angled nozzle which connects into the aeration valve. that hole sits higher in the pool liner compared with the two evacuation holes that use the 1.25 inch hoses that join by the T split and connect into a 1.25" hose. Assuming you have one of these above ground pools that use the intex / coleman pumps.

    • @dieseldime

    I thought it sounded a little loud compared to the nicer INTEX we had before this one (that finally blew up after 5 years). I think yours sounds louder than mine! 😳 does it sound like it has air in it? Like it’s sloshing around a bit? I didn’t know if that’s the way it’s supposed to sound or not. Our other INTEX (a more expensive model) was whisper quiet compared to this one. Is that normal for this model?

    Happy 4th of July. I have an issue with my pump. I went through all the steps you provide which was very helpful thanks. However when it’s filtering the pool it stops every other day even with the pump running. I’m wondering if it got something to do with the hoses. Do the hoses have to be slack or as short as possible to the filter. I’m using double hose intake into the filter.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pump is programmable to run up to 24 hours continuously. It will not run forever that is by design you can select lower time slots that 24 hours. So you have to turn it on every day, or very other day. I think this is what this sentence is asking: " However when it’s filtering the pool it stops every other day even with the pump running."

    • @RoamingInterests

      I think your best bet is to go to a local pool supply shop and you should get the T hose connector that also has a stop valve in case you need to shut everything off and disconnect the pump. I lucked out because there is one 4 miles from me. But also you can look for the Intex hose plunger valve. This one also closes the water. Also you can search online for the "Pool Split hose connector" CAREFUL, you need to know your hose size 1.25" or 1.5" is best to measure before ordering online.

      OK, here is the thing, I think you should get the 12 inch sand filter pump, actually there is a link in the description for it. that was the only one available a few days ago when I got the amazon associates link. it may have changed, in the sense that the pump may be sold out. the 12 inch has a leaf trap so you will need to vacuum your pool, thats why the 12 inch is the best for you because it helps you do everything,. in my opinion, if anyone has a different one ilI invite them to speak out and share.

      That clear pice is a tiny tainy leaf trap which basically clogs up very quickly. This pump in the video is an intex 10" sand filter pump. Normally it should have. unless it came withyou pool directly and then I am no longer sure. But you can check on intex's website. it perhaps depends where you got the pump from . I got my pump on amazon. But if you get a larger version of this pump you also get a proper leaf trap that doesn't clog very fast like the one you mentioned. The proper leaf trap has a trainer and a lid on top and it is easy to clean and maintain. As for your skimmer. skimmer in general need to be adjusted for the water surface. I used to improvise a small nerf shell to keep the skimmer submerged a little more and get the job done netter. In addition I used to plug the return port without the skimmer to get it to have more suction. A bigger pump will also generate more suction and get the job done in a shorter amount of time. Sorry I only now saw these mese messages from you.

      The pool Size I have is 18 feet by 48" high and is about 5000 gallons and this pump can do up to 8400 Gallons. Basically for my pool to circulate the entire water volume, I have to run it for 6 hours. according with the instruction booklet. In the description I added more info about my first few days of experience with it. I may make a review of it based on my experience, in the near future. I am still waiting to face new problems that I may not have accounted for.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Furthermore this pump leaf cannister or leaf trap is very small and basically makes your life much more difficult. I did a quick search on the prices of the leaf trap and it is worth to get the larger 16" pump which has a leaf cannister and really helps with vacuuming the pool. BASICALLY YOU ALWAYS NEED to vacuum your pool from time to time, there no way around it. I used the pump that came with the pool for vacuuming So I do not clog this one because it's leaf trap and debris is tiny!

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made a video on taking it apart and cleaning it. I think you have to backwash the filter now with whatever setting you can. then take the top off of the filter {the six way valve) and try and check the central valve opening how it is positioned when it is on backwash and or filter. And see if you can reset it if you press on the lever, try to see gentle at first to see if you can rotate the bottom of the valve by hand and set it on the right setting. Also the 6 way valve has screws at the top you may have to take those apart and see if you can reset it that way. My suggestion is to take pics of film the process to check back on it when you put back together. Find a comfortable way or bench to work on so you may not misplace the pieces. Here is a link to the cleaning video and what I took apart. th-cam.com/video/HVN07-7wn-0/w-d-xo.html

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spring in the six way valve is very strong so id you take it completely apart. You may need some bigger tools to set the apring back and xompress it. I never took that apart, so this is guess work.

      if it is a small drip then you can ignore it. I think mine is doing that too if it's a few droplets here and there. There is a cap that the pump has for the backwash port. you could put some plastic bag over the threads and then try to thread the cap on to it see if that alleviates your problem. so basically you use a plastic bag as thread sealant but the bag should cove the port hole as well. Also i think water will collect there. Or the other option is to ask for a replacement.

      Also when you use the sand for the first time make sure you back wash it. there is a lot of DUST that needs to be washed from the sand otherwise you'll be spending a week running your pump to clean your pool. I used the original pool pump with the sand pump to get rid of impurities. it took a long time to get the water crustal clear. but first it went green because algae love sand minerals apparently. check out the end of this video or the entire video - is mine as well but with an upgraded pump. th-cam.com/video/OTdtxK6RG2Y/w-d-xo.html

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides the backwashing, does the pump pushes water in the pool properly? Also what is the pressure gauge at when you backwash? Is the PSI is high then you may need to check inaide maybe there is a lot debris that may be needed to be removed. Also I had people write me that the backwash feature did not waork, or the 6 way valves was mounted badly and the pump functions were scrambled. Als has the backwash function ever worked before? I am not sire if you saw the cleaning video, but in a month of using, there was quite a few debris inside mine. So maybe taking the 6way valve off and looking and removing debris may improve the backwashing. But also cjec the psi when backwashing, it should nit be excessively high.

    • @midbladeGoA
      @midbladeGoA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoamingInterests there is a decent flow strength into the pool but pressure gauge is barely above 0. When I do backwash the pressure gauge seems to stay on 0. The pump is brand new and I just put another type of sand in it thinking that was it but it does same thing.

      If the pump is new I think you should try and get a replacement. Not sure where you purchased it from. but if you can maybe try and have it replaced. as I said in the previous I saw people complaining that the 6 way valve was mismatched, or damaged. I do not think is a good idea to try and fix it as long as you can opt for a replacement. Especially if you got it online or amazon when you could just opt for the replacement. You could also try and speak with the Manufacturer. But not sure if they would help immediately.

      Yes the aerator does not fit through the holes that is there for the pump. I have the intex metal frame pool. Just the normal metal frame not the ultra. So the hose holes are to small it won't fit through. What can I do to make it work

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be 3 holes in the pool liner to which the pump connects. Two for the return to pump which filters the water and one is for the water to go in the pool these two holes are the smaller circumference and use two hoses that connect to the split T that connects to a regular 1.5 inch hose and then back into the pump. The third hole connects from the sand filter to the pool and the water returns filtered into the pool. That hole is the larger circumference, that is where you put the aerator that aerator gets fitted after the valve through the pool liner. There is a rubber gasket that gets compressed by the valve and the threaded rings from the inside the pool and also in my video there is a plunger valve that closes the water cycle if you need to troubleshoot. That is where the aerator gets threaded in in the video. And only threads in after you have secured the entire valve on the pool liner. Leaving the little aerator out of the mix can you fit the three hoses in the pool liner? at 10:02 I show the return in the pool valve that hose a hole in it for the aerator and 13:48 is where I have the valve secured on the pool liner. You cannot pass the valve through the pool liner if the aerator is not threaded in? does your valve look similar to the one in the video? also you can kind of gauge if the liner hole in the video seems the same circumference with yours if the valves are the same. Also your Intex pool does it come with the Intex 10" pump? or you purchased them separately? These pumps usually come with a manual the helps with installation. The pool I have in the video is a coleman that works with the intex pump. I think you may want to contact intex support to get a more precise answer from them. There are also adapters that convert hose sizes. you may want to check for those as well.

      I think you should open the filter casing and check the central piece for cracks. or maybe something trapped in between the ribs of the central piece that may allow some sand to slip through. also Have you backwashed the pump after you just installed it.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can tell you that I purchased the big 16 inch pump just to be able to use it for vacuuming. Also i was able to use the old pump for vacuuming and this one as well. If you have trouble pulling stuff just cover the second hole to leave just one hole where the vacuum is attached. It should work fine.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait, this 10 inch does not have a leaf trap, so it would clog the tiny leaf barrier quickly, that is the problem with the 10 inch pump. You can get the next cheaper size up that comes with a leaf trap, or you can get a separate leaf trap that can attach to the pump you have, or an inline leaftrap. Or you cam use your old pump for vacuuming, but that may be a bit more work.

      @RoamingInterests  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes usually the Leaf trap comes only with the intex sand filter 12"-16" the 10 inch pump has a tiny leaf barrier that clogs up quickly. You can perhaps find a leaf trap on intexcorp.com but I am not sure how long is the wait for shipping. You may be better off buying a larger pump. or try to adapt one to your vacuuming hose.

    Can this be used with any above ground pool? I like the setup and my old Hayward has bit the dust

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the video I am using it with an above ground pool with a frame and the liner. Now, If you have one of those hard shell pools professionally built and installed you should be concerned of the hoses and fittings that could connect to your pool. You may need to get adapter to connect the water out into the pump hose and the one back in. This pump is the smallest and it supports up to 8400 Gallons and it take about 8 to 10 hours to circulate all that water. If you have a skimmer that is mounted into the side of the pool not the one i have in the video, then you may need some adapter valves.

    • @K1nshou
      @K1nshou 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoamingInterests yes I do have a professionally built above ground pool with a skimmer box on the side. My concern was the adapter. Thanks for the reply. This was one of the most thorough videos I've seen on this setup.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overall The suction on the pump may not help too well with the skimmer if you use two hoses to suck water into the pump. As in the video I plugged one to increase the suction and efficiency of my skimmer.

    • @RoamingInterests
      @RoamingInterests  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the main two hoses in the video are similar in size for most pools The ones that came with the pump are 1.5" the ones that have the threads and the other hoses that came with the pool pump are also 1.5 but the smaller ones that do not have the threaded lock nuts are smaller maybe 1.25 those connect with the T split connector which has one end of 1.5 with threads and the other two are 1.25". I went to my local store to get a vacuum and the owner took me to their above ground pool with the side skimmer. The pool was tall "above ground "hard shell" and the pump they had was big compared with this one. But their pump was connected with only one water out hose and one water in to the side skimmer. I went there to get a vacuum and they asked me if I have a skimmer, anyway my skimmer was the one in the video and does not work to be adapted for Vacuuming. With this PUMP you would need your side skimmer for Vacuuming and used as a leaf trap. The Leaf trap on this pump is tiny. and is cumbersome to remove and clean. If you have only one hose going to the skimmer and that is the only water out of the pool and into the pump hose. And you have a vacuum adapter for your skimmer - then you can use this pump for Vacuuming. But Without the proper skimmer and the adapter you cannot vacuum. I think the pump has suction for vacuuming. And if you already have the vacuum for your skimmer the night work. I used the original pump that came with the pool for vacuuming. I hope this sheds further light into you question.

      The pool comes with fittings and 1.25 inch hoses, if you buy these cheap pools from the store and set it yourself. You shouldn't have to buy anymore fittings for the pump or the pool. But I maybe also wrong. What is missing in your setup.

      Yea sorry i am late to give you an answer. But usually the bags of sand tell you how often to change it. But I have a video where I cleaned the 10" sand filter and I found a lot of small twigs and debris in there and there was a fish like smell. So depending on the sand filter size I think on the large 16 inch pump with a Leaf trap you should change it every 5 years, i may be wrong on that. But when you winterize your pool you should clean the sand filter of debris that makes it past the leaf trap. Beware of the smell when you open it up. Yea I make all kinds of content. I guess I get bored, and I don't have too much to say about Pools, or 3d printer or, anything, Maybe i should become another podcaster.
