  • This ukulele lesson outlines a very easy fingerpicking pattern for beginner & intermediate players. The Travis Pattern is something I learned on guitar and applied to the uke - I really dig how it sounds with just about any chord progression. Here's the tab for this video with some practice exercises to help get you going. Sub for more videos like this, and leave your questions in the comments below. I try to get back to everyone in a reasonable amount of time.

      Hi, Norman. I just wanted to know how you are going with your learning the uke. I'm about 50 and just as you I always wanted to learn to play some music. I chose the uke a few weeks ago, for budget and skills concerns, and I must say Kevin seems to be a very good teacher. Regards from Lima, Peru.

    This video proves its often the little things we overlook; The pinky anchor trick never occured to me, and it really stabilized my overall play.

    I was struggling a lot at the begining, but what really helped me was getting practice! Whenever watching tv or something, take your hand and tuck your thumb torwars the inside if that makes sense. When you look at the front of your hand, you will be left with four fingers and can pretend they are strings. (Pointer would be G, middle C, ring E, and pinkie A. This helps you learn it faster since you can do it any time (even when you don't have your ukulele). After day 2, I can play it smooth and fluently and am excited to see what I can do with this. Thank you for teaching such a beautiful pattern! 💗

    Hi there, I found only using thumb and indexing finger are a lot easier for me. My method is using thumb for top two strings and indexing fingers for bottom two. Anyone is the same?

    • @AllForUke
      @AllForUke  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is cool for some patterns, but if you can use 3 and ever 4 fingers, you'll really expand your capabilities and speed once you get the hang of it. I would definitely try and stay w/ at least 3 fingers.

    • @CoYoTdeLiMa
      @CoYoTdeLiMa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I play lefty, but without inverting the strings (I tried it, experienced it a little while, and finally decided to have the original GCEA, essentially to be able to share my uke with everybody, try other ukes without feeling from other planet) so I had to adapt this pattern to my hand, and it's now Mid Ind Ring Thmb... M.I.R.T. :)
      To respond your answer, I think you must try both methods, give a chance to Kevin's, go back to yours, then try other FPing patterns, like this one (th-cam.com/video/rHXXNkZa1rI/w-d-xo.html)... and finally come back a few days later to this Travis one and finally chose YOUR favorite method. I'd be happy to read your conclusion.

    You are a very good teacher! When I first started fingerpicking, your Travis pick lesson was the first one I watched and practiced. “Planting the pinkie” has really been a key foundational skill for me. I have found other Travis pick techniques also, especially the “outside -inside” technique. Don’t Think Twice sounds great with a Low G!
