    I met Liberace in 1985 at his beachfront condo in Malibu. I was working as a furniture delivery guy and we delivered a truckload of furniture to him. I rang the doorbell and it was answered by "Cary James" (his bf at the time) and I felt strange asking if Liberace was home. Mr. Liberace ended up chatting with me and he even introduced me to his shar-pei dogs. He could see I was fascinated by their wrinkles, so he explained the history of the breed as Chinese guard dogs. Whenever I see shar-pei dogs, I think of Liberace. I remember he was wearing a subdued powder blue button down shirt and navy blue slacks with just a single (but huge) diamond ring. He was soft spoken and almost shy, but very friendly. It was a thrill to meet him.

      Although I wasn't a fan as his style and taste isn't my thing, I have no doubt that Liberace was a truly great and decent person as evidenced by your story. I would love to have met him because he comes across as a gentle yet straighforward person.

    Greetings;
    You have a unique TH-cam channel. Lee, was a personal friend and fantastic cook.
    He loved his homes and was a excellent host. We both own homes in Palm Springs, he had more than one up there.
    He is missed even today.

      My late Mom Pauline Lachance was the Historian and Archivist for the Liberace Museum. I recall many of the stories about his life I would hear at home. My Mom had a great memory for all things Liberace. She could recall minute facts about any aspect of a costume, piano, car, etc. She started as a tour guide and eventually became the Historian and Archivist. It's amazing how I recall so much of information about is life through my late Mom.

    Here's a brief story of the London taxi at the museum. On one of Liberace's visits to England he saw this cab and decided to buy it. When it had the taxi shipped to the states after it was converted to US specs he used to park the taxi at his Palm Springs home. When Liberace had friends arriving at the airport he would pick them up at the airport in this London taxi cab. My late Mom was the Archivest and Historian for the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas, NV. I've heard a great deal of Liberace information throughout my life. This includes some information on the cars in this video.

    Liberace had a private Dinner at my Grandfathers Italian restaurant in South Florida in the early 80s . I was just a Baby but they said He was a very nice Man . My Grandfather still has a enlarge Picture of Liberace in His restaurant .

    My father was a door man at the Hilton Hotel Downtown Cincinnati Ohio. Liberace rolled into town doing a show. He had trunks with costumes in them. My father says 6 men he had with him could not lift these trunks. Liberace lifted them with ease and placed them gently into flatbed to go up o h
    Is room. Not even put of breath. He continues until all are taken to his room. He wore a wig you know. He was so strong, loved his taste so ahead of his time.

    Nice, nice video. As twenty 'somethings' my brother lived in 'the springs' and it was always a treat to knock on Liberace's and ask for directions to ....somewhere.... Yes, he would personally answer, smile, and do his best to help us on our way. I'm pretty sure he 'knew' what we were doing and just was extremely gracious. Rest in Peace Mr. L. you were a gentleman to the end!!

    I think poor Liberace would have been mortified to have seen “Behind the Candelabra”. Michael Douglas was superb in the title role. I recall a much more sedate Liberace in the days of black and white TV and watching him play, occasionally with his brother George who played the violin. Liberace wore a formal tuxedo in those days, no rhinestone costumes then, but on the piano was a candelabra.

    • @victoriaberryhill5318

      Omg Liberace would have been mortified. He was such a private person. I like to remember him as a great performer. He passed when I was 8

    • @Brace67
      @Brace67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@rogerpritchard I disagree. I think Michael Douglas performance was one of the best if his career. He actually became Liberace. I know though that this movie could never have been made during Liberace’s lifetime. Most folks knew he was a flaming queen but I remember when he first began to become popular on TV. He was very subdued in those days and not at all like what he eventually became.

    Wonder if you got to visit Liberace home in Las Vegas it does require a reservation to schedule a visit for tours and because its in a residential neighborhood . it is used for special events as well.The man who purchased the home has restored and renovated it after it had been abandoned after Liberace death It is very interesting that the mansion was the only thing that was not taken care of by the executors of the estate.

    These cars are incredible! The white Rolls Royce with the glittery design is gorgeous! Love seeing the costumes and hearing the interesting history. Liberace was such a Showman. I really liked the movie Behind the Candelabra. I couldn’t imagine Michael Douglas as Liberace, but he did such an awesome job! Thank you Jordan for another great vlog!

    Thank you Jordan & Breck! I loved the original museum. It was more hands on. We were able to play the piano & try on costumes, and as you said, there were many more cars. I come from a long line of sparkly women, so I’d have been a huge Liberace fan back in the day. 💍✨💃🏻
    A true Showman!

    Second car in the museum is an English taxi which Lee bought whilst on holiday in London, England. He had it repainted white because all the taxis in operation are in standard black. The meter can only take pounds, shillings and pences. #YoureWelcome

    the story on the taxi - Liberace often used the vintage taxi to pick up his guests at the airport. When Li was bored he would take the taxi to the airport and give free rides to tourists to their hotels just to meet and talk to them.
    How do I know? he gave a ride to my parents to the Sands when they visited Vegas in the late 70s.

      what I enjoy ...though I am a homophobic, aith a dislike to piano music. Liberace was as " cool as fck" , he danced to his own tune.
      I salute him
      p.s. I not homophobic, I just an attention seeker. He appears to be so kind. My nan, my dear Nan , absolutely adored him . What is there not to like .

    Saw the original Liberace Museum. I so remember watching his show in the late '50's. In those days he wore a tux on stage and of course, a candelabra was ever-present on top the piano. Yes I could see him walking his dog in that red suit.That was his trademark. To be as spangled as he could. But his personality always out shined anything else. He seemed to be a good person, who gave the world what they wanted. But once he started playing that piano, all the flash and bang faded and his talent shined the most. He was an amazing pianist. As you are showing us around and talking, I'm listening to him play the piano and even hearing it like this, gets me.

    The white taxi, is one of London's Black cabs. It looks like a 60/70's model. As they don't have the luggage space by the driver anymore.

    That London taxi cab is a 1957 model that he bought in London and had shipped to the U.S. and he used it to pick his guests up from the airport. The carpet used to be all red.

    I’m a long time Duran Duran fan (Duranie) and I loved seeing the mirror limo, and recognized it right away. Very glad to see the museum mentions DD on the info.
    Small request.... a quick vlog or photo of Duran Duran’s star on the walk of fame. Supposedly it’s in front of Capitol Records.
    Last time I was in LA was wayyyy before they got their star. (Circa 1995)
    Awesome vlog as always!!!
