Jordan 🇯🇴 another cool story about Liberace, i met him in Palm Desert at Market Basket. Always gracious he seemed to love his fans no matter the age. I was eleven and would see him on television in 1967 so I knew who he was, back then in the desert, the stars were very approachable. He was driving a gold long nosed car, fiberglass car that I think even Elvis had one of those. Thank you for the memories!

Good backstory! I have a friend that lives in the 15000 block of where you are. I actually did see the pool once back in the 80's with a realtor. The freeway is noisy, but the freeway didn't go in until about 1964. So Liberace never had to put up with that. There used to be homes where the freeway goes through and the city, or state bought them out in order to build that portion of the freeway. Also, on that same street is,or was the home of Shelley Fabares from "Coach" and "The Donna Reed Show" and her husband Mike Farrell from "Mash".

I watched a Gomer Pyle USMC episode where he and a nice
little old lady were on the tour bus, and they passed
Liberace's mansion, and the little old lady mentioned that
Liberace had a pool shaped in a piano, as well as his bed I
believe. Imagine if you can, the time Liberace put into
perfecting that sound that so many enjoyed, and paid what
I think was big money back in those days. He truly earned
    what he possessed.

I think 1957 is the year I met George. I was in 2nd grade. He was hired to play at a church function which my mother was partly in charge of back then. I went with her to the function, all dressed up and such.. George arrived early and started talking to me. The minute he found out I played the organ he asked me to play for him. (There just happened to be an organ at the place.) So, that’s exactly what I did. (Didn’t screw up either.) I was at ease with him, he was so very kind to me. I’ve never forgotten how kindly he treated me. Thanks for this vid, it brought back happy memories.

He did have a unique way of relating to the viewer that caused most anyone to really like him. He was really fun to watch as he seemed to be on tv quite often. I always liked him and enjoyed his outrageous sets and costumes ... definitely different from the norm back then! A real entertainer, for sure!

Ah, I used to love Liberace as a kid. Back then and even today, I don't think anyone's personal life is anyone's business. Many celebrities make their lives public for attention. Liberace and Freddie Mercury both wanted to keep their private lives private, and I respect them for that. My mom used to tell me, as a KID no doubt, "You know he's fruity, right?" I didn't really know what she meant, but I didn't care, man had talent and finesse. And could he tickle those ivories!

I once saw Liberace at the Garden State Arts Center in N.J. sometime in the late ‘60s, early 70’s. He was quite the showman! Most of the audience was made up of little old ladies with white hair, but he attracted some curious young people, too (like us). Liberace was adept at the double entendre in a very charming way, and had a smile that could light up Broadway. I still remember one part of his act. He swept onstage with a flourish wearing an outlandish cape trimmed in white fluffy ermine. The cape had a rope tie, at throat level, and at the end of each long tie was a ball of ermine. He leaned over the end of the stage, where the front row was filled with grandmothers, and beckoned two of his fans, holding out the rope ties on the cape. “Would you like to feel my balls?” he asked in the most charming way. And, of course, two of the little old ladies stood up and fingered the ermine balls, in deep admiration. The audience absolutely ate it up!
Liberace was well acquainted with N.J. and used to play piano at Pals Cabin in West Orange, N.J., a very nice steakhouse. That was before he became a big celebrity. Sadly, Pals Cabin closed down in 2013 after 81 years in business.

At the time that house was built there wouldn't be as much air or freeway traffic as there is now, so it would have been a lot quieter. They were still mostly flying prop planes then that weren't as noisy as jets. I used to know an older lady who took a bus trip to Las Vegas from the midwest. One of the things she packed was a jar of her peach jam for Liberace's mother. She didn't get to give it to her for reasons I don't remember, but it was too bad. Liberace's mother didn't know what she missed. That was some killer jam. She'd give me a jar every year for my birthday.

Hey Jordan The Lion, I just wanted to say hello and that I've really been enjoying what you're doing, and most of all I like the way you greet your viewers with "It's your old pal Jordan The Lion" it's very old school, and it so effective in making people feel welcomed." To me it's akin to when I was very small and Mr. Rogers would greet me as a friend, and I felt like I knew him. Sounds stupid I know, but it's not an insult, as I know you're not him, but it's the same principle, you go on adventures and we get to come along. So thanks, and keep up the good work, and I'll keep watching.

The hand rails at 9:20 seem to be a song. They start with a treble clef, and then a key signature with three flats, and then what appears to be three G notes in a row, then a bar line, then more notes coming diagonally down the stairs. It's a playable piece of music.

Surprised to see this video as I have an interesting history with this home and Liberace. I grew up in Sherman Oaks only a couple of blocks away and walked by the home often, sometimes knocking on the door and asking for an orange from one of the trees that used to be in the front of the house. His housekeeper usually answered the door and always said yes. But the point I wanted to make is that my father was the contractor on the pool and I was one of the first in the pool as he invited kids from our church to come for a "christening" party. He played organ at St Didicas for a short while until it was no longer possible for him. Thanks.

Very interesting vlog, I live nearby and didn't know about his house. In 1953 the freeway wasn't built yet. Just imagine the houses that were demolished for the freeway through the San Fernando Valley. However, many celebritties lived in that area in the 40's and 50's. Universal and Warner Brothers are close by. Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Lou Costello, Susan Hayward, and many others all lived not far from there. Lucille Ball and Stan Laurel also lived further out n the "Valley".

Loved your story about WHY Liberace built a house in Sherman Oaks rather than Beverly Hills! Very pretty little mid-century home and not "over the top" as one might expect. Thanks for sharing this informative and fascinating vlog with us, Jordan!

I wonder if there is a way to look up the year the freeway was built, and if it was there in the 50's when he built the house. His house in Vegas appeared to be a busy area (not sure just a guess) Thanks for showing us the house Jordan. I am seeing a lot of Liberace records when I am shopping for vinyl now. He must have sold quite a few in his day. Thanks Jordan

Someone says here that the 405 was built 1959. I recall a UCLA class discussing it in the early 1960s as being "newly opened" at the time and a professor marveling that the cloverleaf interchange at the 405 and Wilshire Blvd, near UCLA, "was designed by a WOMAN!!!"

I remember Liberace played a pair of twins of the original 1960's Batman. I think if I recall it was the common theme of good twin bad twin. Aunt Harriet really had a thing for him. Characters name were Chandell & Harry.

Keeping the dates of when Liberace purchased the land and built the house in mind, I seriously doubt the highway/freeway was there at that time. Majority of major highways were built after the 50’s and 60’s. Thanks for sharing your stories!
