    I absolutely love him. He is so beautiful and amazing. So precious. I've watched him all day and night. So many documentaries on him. Gay or not idc. His private life was his own business. I love him either way. He was a genius. Never used sheet music once. He was a legend and still is. Thank you Liberace for being you. I wish it had been different here for you. Then you could have been the real you. May you rest in peace now sweet angel. ❤️❤️

    I love how Lee handled Letterman in this clip! Not one but two epic stingers, "...in case your show doesn't work out, I have a place for you in my restaurant!", and "In case you're watching (subtle middle finger)" Letterman was such an ass and Liberace kicked it! Awesome!

    • @therealmaskedheel
      @therealmaskedheel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol I mean I'm pretty sure Letterman enjoys that type of banter. It makes things more entertaining for the show if he's joking with his guests and the guest doesn't give it back. Look at how he responds, he's playing it up. Don't take it so seriously.

    Many an entertainer today could learn from kind and gentle man that Liberace was something of true grace and goodwill. He never subjected the media to any "melt down", and he was always kind and obliging of their needs. He always had a smile on his face. I knew some of his family, personal friends and fans, and just as Liberace never had an unkind word to say about anyone, neither did they ever have an unkind word to say about him. The man was an angel on earth. RIP Liberace. God bless you!

      I watched that it was the first time I'd heard of him but learning more about him I realised that movie was based on the book written by Scott who wanted drug money basically. It paints him in a bad light. He tried to help Scott an get him off drugs but he'd had enough as anyone would. He was selling his gold for goodness sake. From what I've seen of the real liberace he left most of his money to scholarships and charities. People who met him say he remembered everyone who worked for him in different countries as stagehands/runners etc names and their kids names and even if he didn't see them for another few years when he came bk he greated them all by name and asked after their families. He was done badly by that post mortem outing and Scott when he was no longer able to tell his side of the story.

    I sadly was not old enough to remember Liberace, but since I came of age, I've watched many videos of his performances and interviews. The man was a GENIUS and a magician on the piano. He'd come out glitzy and magnificent, pure showmanship and all style. Some may have called him "gaudy" but his style was over the top magnificence! And his music was second to none. RIP Liberace. Liberace was also a devout Catholic his entire life, yet loving and worldly enough one of his best friends he regularly visited was a Protestant minister. There was so much more to this man than could be reduced to a two-hour television film with Hollywood pretty boys in hot tubs.
    I am pleased you are curious and intelligent enough to have delved beyond the superficiality of TV film, to learn more about this kind man and talented entertainer.

      gymnastix I've had to remind so many people that Scott Thorson was by no means a "reliable narrator" in Behind The Candelabra. Liberace was no angel (clearly, he started dating Thorson when he was in his late teens & simply could not stay monogamous), but Scott is a drug addict, who was peripherally involved in the Wonderland murders, he's a convicted identity thief & has been in & out of prison for decades. He has told outrageous tales about an alleged affair with Michael Jackson & he even claimed he had an affair with Loretta Lynn - while her late husband was still alive. Scott is a bullshit artist & while I believe that there are many truths in the book, I'm reticent to believe alot of his claims.

  • @gymnastix
    @gymnastix 11 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Of course the man was flamboyant on stage. But this was largely part of his act. And Liberace had a great sense of humor about his excesses, which he knew made people laugh, just as comedian Jack Benny's supposed cheapness and vanity (part of which was his being perpetually 39 years old) were part of his shtick.

    Completely agree with comments below. Letterman trying to steal the show-but acts like a total horse's ass. Liberace extremely gracious and playing along but obviously not amused as Letterman dumps all the cheese in to get a laugh. No respect. Not funny. Quick-witted but really no talent. Did the same with Julia Child. If Dave could be more impressed by himself, I'd be surprised...
