Glengoyne 25 & Tobermory 11. Amazing, Sherried Scotch Whisky

  • Episode 589. Two incredible samples from Dark Cloud to consider today. Both sherried, but very different. The Glengoyne is deep, dark fruit and nuts, while the Tobermory is funky, dry, earthy. I was hoping for something to slow me down and relax. These are certainly that!

    Great sample shoot out from DarkCloud. Both sound excellent and you were fortunate to experience them. Another great video and digging the new angles too. All the best Jon and thanks for the bourbon recommendation. Cheers.

      Thanks for mentioning the angles. I'm never sure if that is a good idea or not, but it's fun to mix it up a bit!

      Our Whisky Club had their annual Year End gathering last night & the Glengoyne 25 was a common choice for a lot of people's Top 3 Favourite- cheers 🥃

    If we were drinking whiskies like this all the time, we wouldn't be able to appreciate them nearly as much. Just my opinion. The few rare aged Scotches I've had the opportunity to try are memorable for their quality and flavours. I'm still talking about that Brora 25 Autumn from 1975-2001, and a Linkwood 25 from 2013...wonderful experiences to cherish.
    Enjoying the fun shooting angles you're playing with, by the way!
    You certainly have a 'dram fine' day ahead of you...🥃

    WOW! Glengoyne 25 is top on my bucket list. I absolutely Love Glengoyne products. I drink the 10 & 12 regularly. Only tried an 18 or 17 once at a bar in a flight.

    I remember buying a Glengoyne 25 from the Liquor Lodge in 2019 or so for 385 Cad on sale. I never opened it because I had so many open bottles. I will get around to it sooner than later. Did have a sample from back then though so I remember really liking it.

      Open it with friends. This is something meant to be shared. It's excellent. I would hate to pass on the opportunity to really enjoy this with people. Whisky is so much better shared!

      Also easy for me to say, I do not have anything close to that value in my collection. All my whisky is easy to share! I only mean to encourage enjoying this. I loved the sample!

    Very cool comparison ... and that Glengoyne 25 sounds as good as I'd imagine. I'm envious of your Oilers, who are off and running. My Stars have Game 7 tonight, and the only positive is I've got enough whisk[e]y on hand to help get me through it. 🤣🤣 Cheers!

    I tasted the Glengoyne 25 in a hotel bar (when visiting Arran, of all places!) and it is gorgeous. Here at home I use the 21 to demonstrate what a solely-ex-sherry-cask-matured single malt with absolutely no peat whatsoever (they are very insistent about that!) is like and I also have a 28-year-old, but that was at least partly matured in ex-bourbon casks, and the Teapot Dram Batch 03. As for Tobermory, I think my closest would be a 10-year-old from North Star - more sherry than the OB 12.

    Love the Glengoyne 25!! RDWC shared a bottle this past weekend! It was wonderful!! Wish I had a few bottles! When I bought it for the club 18 months ago it was only $438!! It was a favourite from last weekend along with the Bowmore Aston Martin 23 and an Oban 21 Distillers Selection from 2018!!

      Btw, toured Glengoyne in 2022! Love the distillery! Took the master blender tour and bottled my own blend! Mostly 21 yo Sherry from two wildly different sherry casks, distilled the same day!! I need to go back and recreate it

      @@EuropaWill I prefer Lasanta, but I have not mastered the Scotch Highball

    • @EuropaWill
      @EuropaWill 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WhiskyNeighbour absolutely Lasanta is a much better sipping single malt as it should be at almost 2x the cost. X is younger and sweeter and not as nuanced as even the 10. For that reason it works well as a mixer especially in cocktails that don't hide the flavor of the underlying spirit, hence the highball. Fill a 12oz glass with ice to the rim. 2 oz of X, fill the rest with either club soda or seltzer for a "drier" highball that allows the flavor of the whisky to shine through. Stir. Enjoy. Alternatively fill with ginger ale for a sweeter version that hides the Scotch. Either are very refreshing for a hot summer day. I've been known to sip X when comparing it with other like priced single malt, but it does make a tasty highball using plain seltzer or club soda.
