Hey Jon, I just got back from a first time trip to Scotland. Amongst my 11 bottles brought back 3 of them were Thompson Bros. SRV5, TB/BSW and the Thompson Bros North Highland 8yo Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. All three of them were between $65 and $70 Canadian tax in when converted from British £. I’ve been home only the last two weeks and I haven’t cracked any of them just yet. I’m really looking forward to trying them but all in good time.
I had the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time and meeting up with Roy on September 28 in Glasgow for the barflies meet up. it was a thrilled to meet Roy in person and then things got crazier from there. I also met Ralfy! But more to the point of me writing this I had told Ralfy what I’d purchased to take home and he also agreed the Thompson Bros. whiskies were a great budget choice to take home with me.
Forgive me, but I have to take this opportunity to brag a little more. I toured eight distilleries. 5 on Islay and then it was off to Campbeltown to visit Glen Scotia, Springbank and Glengyle. That’s where the other 8 bottles came from and I was honest with customs in Calgary and they let me bring everything home with me without paying duty.
The customs agent was such a nice understanding fella and was very cool to deal with! Regardless I more or less agree with your thoughts on your OSWA picks. Cheers! 😃🥃
@ronaldbeerguy What an amazing trip, so many great meetings, and it sounds like a great collection you brought home too! I am a bit jealous, but hopefully one day I will get over and meet a few friends. Thanks for sharing, and I am so happy for you! Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour thanks Jon! The trip was absolutely an experience that I won’t forget. You have a good day and thanks again for a fun video and your thoughts on the OSWAs.
Great run down on the OSWAs and awesome you are a contributor this year Jon. Lots in common for our picks. I’ll get you a sample of the AD Cask Strength to sip on not, see if it changes your mind lol. Keep up the great work sir.
Lol, I'm certainly open to tasting new whisky to see what changes! Thanks for watching, cheers!
Great rundown, Jon! Just wondering what was your pour in the beginning of the video at the 1:25 minute mark. Skål 🥃

Voted early on. Really love their system.
The biggest problem for me was the same as yours, not being able to get hold of a lot of this stuff. Mind you, there's so much out there now, we'd need a warehouse. Or two, or...
I just went with what I knew.
Looking forward to hearing the results.
Cheers Jon 🥃🥃

@onewomanswhisky Glad you voted, and I think we should. Vote for what we know and enjoy!
Terrific video Jon! Excellent! I voted about one week ago!! Great choices to choose from and way to go with new tech!! So happy to be sipping along with a small dram of Laphroaig 2024 - Joel and me!! I feel lucky to have had quite a few expressions and it was a blast voting! I am thrilled we have the OSWA awards!! Even at $80 for Craigellachie 13, locally, it feels cheap given the outrageous prices for good scotch. I agree with Geoff - GWhisky - didn't get blown away at all with MacLean's Nose. Terrific/interesting choices!! Cheers friend!! :-)
Glad it was fun. I wanted to do more, but time seems to excape me. The OSWAs are important as they are independent, not funded by submissions, and allow us to have some fun! Thanks for watching!
@@WhiskyNeighbour We thoroughly enjoyed your choices and thoughts and it’s also so important to remind people about the OSWA Awards! Fabulous Jon! Thrilled you are part of this and we totally look forward to watching the Awards! Exciting!! Hope work was good today! There always seems to be a ton of work after a long weekend!! Be well!!
Ardnahoe Infinite Loch just released in the UK £55 or $98 Canadian
@@anthonysillett6678 I would love to try that!
You know I can't help myself: it's Loch LOWm'nd, not l'MOND! Shame you can't get Thompson Bros. - I'll ask them about it when I'm up there in just over a week...
@@andrewbutler7681 thanks!
Where are you getting Balcones?
@vincerose6920 It has been forever, and I see Liquor connect is not listing. Last Time? Chateau Louis north edmonton. Great place. Maybe call ahead though. If it is not on Liquor connect it has been a while!
