Thank you so much for your great advice from Earnest Jones swing technique. I'm a 17 handicapper and struggle to break 90. I'm 61 years old and yesterday I used this technique on a difficult golf course and shot a 77 which was 5 over par. I've never broken 80 and couldn't believe how easy this was. I shot 4 birdies which I've never had more than one in a round. It was amazing and not once did I think about anything more than light grip and seeing the club head. Thank you so much.

In 4 minutes she explained the golf swing it applies to every club save yourself the frustrations watching lots of complex teachers go out and swing the club head

I tried this concept at the range and I must say, this was the first time I didnt have the urge to HIT the ball at the top of my backswing. An omg moment. I felt tempo & rythem for the first time. You have a great way of explaning the "swing". Thank you!

The clubhead swings you, momentum pulls you through to the finish.Stop trying to move the clubhead, let it move you!

Just brilliant! Golf instruction is so obsessed with body movements, yet it ignores the most important part… what the Club head is doing.

But does it translate into people playing better golf?

Ernest Jones 1949 1.5 page article from the USGA Journal summed it up. He said the swing is just one continuous back and forth motion and should be controlled by the hand and fingers. The body just follows along. Swinging the clubhead back and forth should be the only thing you are thinking about (since we can only think about one thing at a time). I'm 64 and my dad used to tell me to just swing the club back and forth and get out of the way, now I get what he meant. Not as easy as it seems either.

Just finished reading Ernest Jones book . Thank you for the concise demonstration. It simplifies things for all us average golfers !
I find this method is helping me a lot. No more complex analysis of body, arm, wrist, hip positions for me .

This was the lightbulb for me. As soon as I realised it is the club head that moves the body, not the body moving the club head it sharpened up my ball stroking enormously.

Excellent advice from one of the top instructors. I have recently discovered (unfortunately only after playing golf for a long time!) that the lighter you grip the club the easier it is to feel the whereabouts of the clubhead.

    • @rickjohnson46

Lite grip is a myth. Creates distortion at impact. The handle can’t be allowed to move in your hands.

Yep this makes golf so so so much easier. Trust me. Unless you are trying to be a tour player stick to this method. Just make sure you do NOT yank the club head inside unless you have exceptional rerouting skills. Your timing and tempo will be much better. Easier to relax. You are not thinking about positions. Far easier on the body as well. Justin Rose swings this way and he's not to shabby. Basically this method creates more relaxation. Need more power? Let the left heel come off the ground slightly without swaying.

Whilst there is a lot of talk of the “Swing the club-head” theory being all there is to the golf game, unless the wrists are strong you can swing to your heart’s content and not get very far. You have to make the club-head do the work. This is my slogan, and this “make” implies effort, will power and resistance, for the golf-club is more or less a lever and the left hand resists the hit of the right hand.” - HENRY COTTON, 1951. I've been striking golf balls since 1969 and pouring tiny blades for 30 years.
The only swing thought I have ever had, is to swing the arms. The arms are wired to the brain, the club is not, so why try and control something, that is decoupled from your nervous system.
One of the biggest misconceptions in the golf swing is people trying to tell you, that " the mind is in the hands", or "swing the handle, not the head" I garuntee you that if you visualise swinging the handle, that your wrists will seize up. Conversely if you think about swinging the clubhead, you are trying to control something that you will never, ever be able to control, because it's not connected to the brain!!!!
Start by swinging the body, in order to swing the arms, so with loose wrists, you can throw the hands around the circle and the secrets,, will be revealed to you, ie you need to pause at the top, have a small gravity drop and swing the arms to P5, which decelerate into impact, in order to let the clubhead release.
In my swing, I never dare think about the club, or the hands, for fear of a decoupled entity interfering with the pivot!!!!

But not all that wrong !!!!!
It's obvious you have to swing the clubhead, but the Earnest Jones method, is basically the biggest load of boll*cks !!!!
And yes: I'm talking to you arrogant pr*ck !!!!
You feel the golfswing in the feet , the soles of the feet and never the hands and never ever the clubhead 😊😊😊😊

Excellent comment, I found out the same after 25 years golf. The mass of the arms make the club follow and the wrists submit to to the action.
