JD, I don't comment very often but I wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your approach. In my experience, every throwing sport features the body responding appropriately and naturally to what the intent of the arms and hands are dictating. It has become evident to me that if we can teach our arms and hands, our body will always follow and support the motion appropriately. Great presentation of concepts, by you, that are overly complicated by many modern teachers. Thank you!
YES!!!
I know a lot of people that should be watching this video. Many thanks.
This is an important drill for most golfers! Thanks for watching!
I bought your very first VHS instructional on the swing plane back in like 2005. Gosh,so long ago and I think I actually still have it. Glad to see you are still teaching John!
That is awesome!
Thank you for sharing John.
You are very welcome
Such a great video John🙌
Thanks Matt!
Hi John at 75 I do my less then 1&1/2 second drill by swinging my handle that is actually the counterweight of my golf club at the very start of my swing to the very ends of my swing.
Ed Merrins was the first to talked about it; but never explain much how to actually do it. Merrins claimed to have taught Jack Nicklaus and said Jack won a tournament shortly afterward
I honestly believe this one particular drill done correctly can be mastered by 99 percent of golfers to develop a great golf swing of their own
When the weather get better in NH I hope to show it and explain it further on video. Cheers
Sounds good.
Where in NH?
@@daveparsons7756 the Manchester NH area.
Just of interest to note as I “swing/ swing/ swing” my handle I must swing my hands as well using the power from my arms and pivoting body.
Also I always begin my downswing with my lead forearm as this prevents me from pushing too much with my trail shoulder and hands. Cheers
@@thomasfraser9072 thanks👍🏻. In Wolfeboro
John it appears to me and I would love your opinion on this, that this drill would help with an overly long backswing. I’ve had this problem for years and usually it’s my shoulder turn outrunning my arms. Love the simplicity of this drill!
It absolutely may help!
This is the exact drill that terry rowles told me to do to learn my release. Also same drill to improve chipping. How long do you need to do this for it be ingrained?
No one knows!, I would say, just keep with it until it is.
Very thank you .
You are very welcome!
Thank you for a great tip and video good sir!
Glad it was helpful!
swing-swing also helps with tempo!
John, along the lines of the previous comment, do you have any notion of the hips moving first on the downswing and the arms following? Or are you just focusing on the "swing swing" and not thinking about the lower body?
In some cases the shift DOES have to be encouraged, but sometimes, quite often, I get it for free!
John,
this set off some great light bulbs. Thanks. Can you help me more with straightening the arms past impact and thus "flipping on the target side of the ball. Any ideas or drills woiuld be appreciated. Rotating from the get go with "flat" left wrist is awesome. Love your channel.
Steve

thanks john for this video.
does this swing swing help keep my back to target longer ? i have a tendency to come over the top and fade/slice the ball.
thanks
john
Yes! But watch how I moved the path around during the video to see how.
@@JohnDunigan Moved the path around? Not following what you mean? I have the same issue plus hitting fat a lot. Do you have a side view also?
@@dry509 Simply by choosing swinging the club head along the target line, from outside in, and from inside out. Don't forget, you are holding the club! Make it go somewhere on purpose!
I think it is difficult way to keep ball straight it will hook tremendously sooner or later.
I suggest you make subtle adjustments to your grip so that you don't have to steer the club through impact.
Ernest jones
Yes sir!
I hook when i do that.
1. Check your grip. 2. release more down the fairway.
Everyone is missing the throw part of the swing.
Word!
The key to swinging is to understand what swinging is: to 'swing' means, not to add ANY leverage to the handle of the club throughout the swing.
A swing is a back and forth movement suspended from an axis.
A pendulum is similar but swings under the influence of gravity.
@@robertcourt8593 I just happened to stumble on your reply. I do not think that the physical characteristics of a mechanical swing apply to what we call 'swing' in golf. We may be talking about two different topics.
