Call Allen's Camera to order the lens and tell them Rob sent you!

This video was my introduction to your channel. I have no need for that lens or intention to buy it, but this was exactly what I want to see in a lens review: the tactile experience of using it, the actual scale and feel of it, and the how all the little details actually work. Great job.
Thanks so much, Matt!
Rob, you do an outstanding job on all your videos including this lens review! Thank you for providing all your reviews, tips, and "HOW-TO's." To my ears you have a relaxed "golden" voice with clear diction. Your explanations are well thought out, concise, and intelligible.
Thanks so much, Barbara
as someone deep into the M4/3 ecosystem (but no intention to buy/use for this lens), I find your channel amongst the, if not the, best for Olympus system. Your voice is soothing, your description clear and you even show and compare in real life. I am here to learn more and your channel delivers time and time again! Keep up the great work!
Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words
This is the best review I've seen about how this lens would help me with the type of photography I enjoy. I like nature. I don't want to have to lug monster equipment along. I have really enjoyed my Olympus equipment because it allows me to pursue my passion without needing two people or staying close to my truck. BTW, I have seen reviews from several other Olympus pros. Each point out different features and uses.
Thanks for the kind words, Bob 😃👍
Spot on, great review. This lines out the importance of knowing what to expect from a solid pro lens. and understanding its abilities.
Thanks a lot, Eric🤘
Olympus is not dead! Man do I want this lens!
Not dead by a long shot 🤘
Thank you for this review. Great shots. This is something to work for. I hope I'll be able to afford oneday.
Great review! When looking at your photos I was impressed by the depth-of-field of the flowers and other close-ups. As soon as I win the lottery, I'm getting this lens!
Thanks Frank! Good luck 🍀
Great review!
Don't forget about the Bird AF firmware update for the E-M1X, coming soon
Absolutely!
It's out of my pricerange for now, but it's nice knowing it's out there waiting for me to catch up in my journey
Great review Rob. First one to properly explain the audio switch, and bring up the short throw on the zoom ring, that is very nice! The thought of replacing the 100-400 and the 300 with one lens is very enticing, now off to play the lottery!
Thanks for the comment, Morley, and good luck! 🍀
I have to make a confession: I first tested the lens and then browsed around for reviews. Yours is by far the most accurate according to my thoughts after renting the lens yesterday (2021-10-20). I’ve tested the premium lens as well, and although I’d leave Lamborghini out of it, it is as simple as that. The FF users need to get their hands on this lens to see what this (MFT-M43) system offers. Then we can talk about prices. I will probably not buy either lens, because for my needs, they are not a justified expense to my photography. However, my message to the ones that already own the 40-150 f2,8 pro, I say “think of the 150-400 f4,5 Pro as a 40-150 f2,8 Pro on steroids” because this is how I would describe it.
I am really impress by this new lense and the way you speak about it, you are the only one, and I saw lots of video on it, to speak about how practical this lense is. I am a wildlife photographer but far to be pro according to me, this lense seems to be absolutely perfect but the price for me is too expensive even if I could buy it . I choose the new 100-400 mm lense and I hope I will enjoy using it . Thanks again for your video and shoot well.
Thanks for the comment. The 100-400 is a great lens as well.
I want both.
I can't afford either.
If I won the lottery...
I'd actually buy the 100-400 to go with my EM5MII (although first of all would probably get the updated Mark III with a couple of other lenses I want more than either of these lenses).
If I won enough to get the 150-400 I'd probably also have enough to buy the EM1X to go with it, which I feel you also need to get for balance 😂
Great review. You moved past the technical specs that I can read and have heard from other reviewers. I like the practical review. I have pre-ordered the lens to add to my Olympus gear. Thanks again.
Thanks James. I figure you guys can read the specs yourselves 😉
@@RobKnight Yes, that's what he meant, it's not a practical review for Birds In Fight I missen.( Sleeping animals in Zoo) I can take fotos with my mobilphone 🤔
@@KaBal1 I had the lens for a few days and had to shoot what was available. I guarantee you can’t make shots like this with your phone 😉
Awesome review. Thanks for keeping it real and simple.
Thanks Mike 👍
Hi Rob, this was the best review of this lens I have seen to date - leave the specs to read on the web and focus on the experiences when shooting. At the price, I won’t be buying one any time soon, but would love it. Your explanation of the short zoom rotation and the practicalities of zooming using this and the tc switch whilst swinging the camera into position really makes me want it even more - the number of times I used to miss with the zooming on my old system and also changing to a TC on my 300!. The focus preset plus the ability to have a lens function button at the flick of a switch - this lens is so intelligently designed. You have a new subscriber of the strength of this video. I love my Olympus gear so will be checking out your channel with interest. I will also be looking for the sample images on your website, ASAP!
Hi Craig, thanks so much for the kind words 😃👍
Amazing lens! I wish I could afford it... 😅
Thanks for the review Rob 👍
Me too!! 😃 and thanks for watching
Superb review and really informative in down to earth style 👌
Excellent review! Might have pushed me over the edge to buy it!
Good review, thank you. From all the ones I’ve seen, you’re the only one to mention the focus ring smoothness and small distance from fully in to fully out. This means a lot to someone with small hands like me.
Thanks John. Happy to help!
I've been using 4/3 cameras for four years. A Panasonic G9 with a Panasonic-Leica100-400mm does a pretty good job, but if you have the money, the MIX with this 150-400 Olympus Pro lens would be a vast improvement in several areas.
Thanks for the comment, William. I used that combo for a couple of years, and I can definitely concur.
@@RobKnight I've been looking into going full-frame but the lenses are monsters. I looked at a MIX and it was highly recommended. I've been a photographer since the Mid-60s. But the weight and size of the supertelephoto lens, the size of the sensor, the autofocus, and cost must be balanced.
It is tempting to buy this lens, but then I need the MIX body.
Excellent review. How did you hook up your strap so that the foot is up vs down?
Much to like about this lens as well as a stellar A F sys from the Olympus camera combined with it. I, like you, am not a fan of often changing lenses but prefer having one lens that covers a lot of range. I chose the Olympus 12-200m to go on my G9 for this reason. It covers a significant area & takes good images. This 150-400m also covers lots of ground & according to you takes stellar photos. I have an original Honda CT 110 trail with a 1000 miles - worth @ $4 or $5 thousand - I plan on converting to future camera gear purchases. Thanks for the quality review.
Thanks for the comment, Ray. Good luck with your motor bike! 🤘
This is great I’ve been a canon shooter for years and recently gone mirrorless with the R6&now a R7 just not happy with the rolling shutter so looking at stacked sensor cameras been looking at r3 then Nikon z9/ upcoming z8 paired with the z800 f6.3 but then heard about the micro stacked Olympus cameras which would be perfect as my birding set up and cheaper than the Nikon set up currently using the rf100-500 after having to get rid of the big ef 500 f4 lens due to bad back so really interested in these lighter super telephoto set ups
A couple of things… the Olympus 150-400 is NOT small or lightweight, nor is it cheap. I have a hard time recommending a $7,400 lens for a cropped-sensor camera. With 20mp there is very little room for cropping.
I switched to a Sony a7rIV 2 years ago. The body is basically the same size as a pro OM-D body, and with 61mp I can crop if I need to virtually extend the reach at the telephoto end. The Sigma 150-600mm sport lens is smaller than the Oly, effectively the same aperture, and only $1500.
The Olympus 300mm f4 pro lens is great, even with the 2x teleconverter. For the price I would still recommend something with a full-frame sensor.
I used micro 4/3 cameras for 10 years, and found the ragged edge of the performance. Once I tried the Sony a couple of years ago I couldn’t make a case for the smaller sensor.
I will not be able to get that great lens. However, I've been thinking of getting either a 300 f4 pro or 100-400 to compliment my 40-150 pro and my 60mm macro. I want to keep the 40-150 primarily because it's versatile for snakes and the herons I shoot. However, I want a little more reach for ospreys and occasional bald eagles in my area. The thing that has me thinking 300 pro is that I' ve seen a few for $2000 and I shoot owls in the early mornings.
Great Review Rob. Wish I could afford it!
Thanks Greg!
My Em1 Mkii loved this video. :)
😃👍
Great review video. You explained a few things that no one else really explained. I got this lens on pre-order and am looking forward to actually using it.
Thanks a lot David 👍
I like my Camry. I'm hoping to get the Oly 100-400 soon.
I’m with you, Bob! I drive a Prius 😆
Do you find it necessary to use a "protective" filter on this lens? The Oly 95mm filter is very pricey! B+W has one for 1/2 the price; B+W 95mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter
I don’t use “protective” filters at all because I don’t want to add another layer of glass if I can help it. I always use the lens hood, and make sure everything is insured.
Hello, I ordered the lens. I am so happy that Olympus brought it out. The last gift from Olympus. But the set button for the focus - I will probably never use it. The lens is fast enough to find its destination again.
The focus memory feature would come in really handy if you were shooting birds from a blind, or something like that. But like you said the auto focus is fast enough that I probably won’t use that feature much
@@RobKnight According to Olympus, the autofocus should be 20% faster than the 300mm f4 Pro. The lens is becoming more and more likeable to me :-)
@@travelmitmir the AF speed is shocking!
@@RobKnight ha ha ha :-))
Thinking the same thing! What can I sell to afford this lens...🤔Insightful review 👌
Thanks Espen 😃
Kidney?
Great review! Thank you for that. I had the opprtunity to test this lens as my friend had one of the first samples that arrived here in Finland. Was that a mistake or not, don't know(of course not) but now one lens is reserved for me. Just can't wait that to arrive. A top quality lens which handles so smoothly with M1X that it's hard to belive. Counting days...
trying to find out if its as sharp as the 300f4 with mc20 which is use all the time if you crop to say extreme 75% great job rob
Thanks Jason. I think the 150-400 is as sharp as the 300mm pro/mc20. I didn’t get to use it much with the teleconverters, but it seemed like the same quality
Thanks for the review Rob. My big question really gets to how well it limits the DOF. I love the creamy background canvas. Can you show some examples of that.
Thanks for the comment David. I will be shooting some close-up and macro stuff today, and I’m going to post a gallery of full-size images on my website. The depth of field is very shallow with this long telephoto lens. You can see some examples in the gorilla pictures and even behind the lion, but I realize it’s hard to tell in the video.
@@RobKnight Indeed... Razor sharp. If the subject is static as far as distance, a little tweek with peaking will give cutting sharp captures . Not wildlife, but a tree worker high up with a chain saw, tweeked, you could count the stiches on his harness! Superb!! Great for commercial work.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I am about to skip over to your web site to have a look at the images you have taken with it. I am very keen on checking this lens out when it becomes available in Australia. The price is way above what I thought and hoped it would be. I am currently using the Panasonic 100-400 on the Mark lll. At times I can get really nice images but I am often very disappointed when subjects are distant and, in particular, doing birds in flight. I know that this lens isn't even anywhere near in the same ballpark but to consider such a big outlay (AU$12000 in Australia) it would have to outperform by current system immensely. I would love to know if you did manage to take images with the Mark lll and if the quality was on a par with the M1X. I am disappointed that the bird eye detect firmware upgrade is only for the M1X. I hope it filters down to the Mark lll. Do you know if there is any thought on that happening? If I do go mad with such a huge outlay I don't want to be adding the M1X to the shopping list as well. I already have 2 Mark ll cameras as well as the Mark lll. I have been waiting 2 years for this lens to be released and I want to see if it lives up to the expected hype and that it will be a gamechanger for wildlife and action photography.
Thanks for the comment, Carol. The 150-400mm’s performance on the mkIII is basically the same as it is on the 1X. I don’t know about future firmware for the mkIII. The 1X has dual processors, and I don’t know if that facilitates the bird detection. I’ve seen some pretty nice discounts on the 1X lately. Maybe you could fly to the US and pick up the new lens and a new camera. Sounds like it would be cheaper than buying the lens in Australia!
@@RobKnight Hi Rob, Glad to hear that it performs well on the mklll. I would love to see some images of birds in flight captured with this lens. Flying to the US isn't possible at the moment. Sadly nowhere is but I live in hope that it is allowed in the near future. But the way things are in your beautiful country I won't be able to leave Australia. I was booked for Alaska May 2020 and deferred to May 2021 but that is in doubt too. My dream would be able to get there and to have this awesome lens with me. The lens would be a bit cheaper in the US but I would have to pay huge import duty when I return to OZ. The 1X has dropped in price so maybe if the bird detect is as brilliant as they say and it isn't available on the mklll it may be worth selling one of the mkll's and getting an M1X. But who knows what the future may bring. Hopefully an update of the firmware to give me bird detect in the camera I have or the lens is so great I can manage without it.
@@RobKnight I have got a great deal on the M1X and updated firmware. Looking forward to seeing what I results I can get.
@@caroldarby9444 that's great! congratulations.
Contemplating this instead of EOS R5 + RF 100-500 L series combo after watching this. The reach is what we need here in wild Africa.
The R5+100-500 would actually be cheaper than this lens by itself. With a 45mp full-frame camera you can crop the images and get pretty much the same reach as the OM, but with better low-light performance
Just ordered this lens. Olympus is my go to set up for travel. My Canon RF set up with most RF lenses is now in storage because I have been traveling since April. And, the Canon setup cost way more. I wonder when the lens will start shipping.excellent review. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. I believe the lens will start shipping in January
Sony Northtrup put up a video claiming that an A7R IV in crop mode (26 megapixel) paired with the FE 200-600mm will give better results all while being considerably cheaper and a bit lighter. Thoughts?
I haven’t used the Sony setup you mentioned, but on spec the smaller size is probably due to the slower aperture, plus that lens is .5lbs heavier than the Olympus. The Sony also has a minimum focus distance of 2.4m vs 1.3m on the Olympus. That has a big impact on the usability of the lens in terms of working up close. Has Tony used the Olympus 150-400? My guess is that he hasn’t.
For sure one of the best reviews for this lens only short on showing actual images. I understand you didn't have this lens long enough just yet. Super surprised by the weight and price, but it is still too heavy due to my chronic back issue. I already have a hard time carrying 300mm F4 w/ MC14 at the same time. Anyhow, I look forward to see more example images if you would have time or chance to post them up later. Cheers
Thanks Narin, I’ll be posting full size images on my website this weekend.
Hi Rob, I’m Roger from England. I’m 75 but still fit however not anywhere are strong as I used to be. I hope your father is still alive and kicking, tell me how would he fare using this lens on the OM1X. Would he be able to hold it still.
Hi Roger, my dad is a few years ahead of you and still kicking. I’m sure he could wield this lens if he had the desire to, but he’s much more interested in golf 😆
This is a perfect lens for that bucket list safari or Yellowstone adventure. You mentioned the rental option. What places, specifically, will one be able to rent this lens? I live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale).
I have no idea at this point. It would be worth contacting the online rental houses like ApertureRent who already carry Olympus gear to let them know you’re interested
How does the aperture compare to FF? I understand the micro 4/3 crop factor, but what is a good approximation for FF aperture equivalent on this thing? Looks like a dream lens
“Equivalent aperture” generally refers to depth of field. You get a bit more DOF with micro4/3 lenses than you would with full frame lenses at the same aperture. When it comes to telephoto lenses and wildlife, this is a plus.
Rob, did you try it in conjunction with the pro capture mode? Pro capture is a really great feature for getting those shots which happen so briefly with that lens you could get amazing results
It IS a great feature, but unfortunately I didn’t get to use it during my short time with the lens.
Great review!
Thanks a lot 🤙
So already 300-800mm with 2x crop factor and yall have a 1.2x tele built in? Damn thats a sweet birding setup
Yes it is!
Nice review. You make some great points about the lens overall. As for size and weight - well try getting on a plane with a full frame 1000mm telephoto lens in addition to a couple of full frame cameras and three other full frame lenses lens giving ranges from 20 - 300mm as hand luggage!!! Since I have the 40-150mm and 300mm with x1.4 and x2.0 teleconverters I am in no rush to buy this lens right now. Especially as travel is virtually impossible at this time. However this lens is on my must have list. As you say I will be trading in several other lenses and cameras when I purchase this lens since they will become rather redundant. EM1 mark iii also on my upgrade from mark ii. Exciting times😊
Thanks for the comment! Exciting times indeed 😃
Check out the M1X. With cash back and deals I got one for less than what I paid for Mark lll
@@caroldarby9444 Yes Just bought EM1X for nearly same price as mark iii with free Red Dot sight. And of course the new Bird recognition AF tracking which works very well. I will think about the 150-400mm TC x1.25 pro lens next year.
Excellent review, and I have seen all of them, even from Russian or Chinese reviewers. (just looking at the pictures, of course). Being a foreigner, further to the very well explained technical details and user perceptions, I appreciated the "middle English" pronunciation, which gave me the chance to listen carefully without trudging by reading the subtitles. (that are not always available in somebody else's reviews). I then subscribed with confidence, and at the same time unsubscribed from Tony that has once more shown how much unprofessionally spreads out his opinions. Thank you for your work!
Hi Stafano, thanks so much for the kind words and for the thoughtful comments 😃🙏
Thanks for the very helpful initial review. What is the overall length of the lens when the lens hood is attached?
Thanks Joseph! I had to ship the lens back already, so I wouldn’t be able to measure it. I’m sure you can fine the specs online somewhere
Ok, those images, blown up, were Very Impressive.
Thanks Michael 🤘
Can you compare image quality of the 300mm f4 with this lens? Thanks ( please compare the 300mm with the zoom at 300mm.... Yes, I understand this lens is more versatile, but I'm interested in just the quality differences at that focal range.... Thanks)
Hi Skip, I haven't done any comparisons at a specific focal length, but it is TACK sharp all the way through the zoom range in my experience.
You have Tenba Axis 24L bag. Does M1X+150-400Pro fit in with lenshood attached so that the camera is ready to go? My lens should arrive next week and I'm trying to figure out what might be the ideal bag for it. Tenba Axis 24L is on my list as one possible choice but I haven't had the opportunity to test if the lens fits with the body and lens hood attached.
It fits down the middle with the hood reversed 🤙
@@RobKnight Ok. Thank's for Your reply. I was afraid of that. Otherwise 24L seems to be a fine bag.
Hello Rob,
how would you compare the image quality between the Olympus 150-400 4.5 pro vs the Olympus 100-400 5.0-6.3. I currently own the Olympus 100-400 5.0-6.3 and I am having a very hard time determining whether or not to purchase the 150-400. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and keep those TH-cam videos coming.
Hi Mike, if you have ever used the Olympus 300mm f4 pro, you have an idea about what to expect from the 150-400 f4.5 pro. It is a cut above the 100-400 F5-6.3. Honestly, I have a hard time recommending a $7500 lens for m4/3. For that price you can get better AF, better ISO performance, and the same reach from a different system.
@@RobKnight Thanks for the quick response Rob. I will consider your suggestion. I will see what else is out there. Though, me having so much Olympus gear is hard to make any decisions regarding the addition of any other gear. Not to mention I preorder the om 1. Anyways, that's for your advice and best regards.
BEST bird combo by far, quality, size and weight, aswell for travel
I couldn’t agree more 🤘
Great review Rob and thanks for sharing the photos on your website. I am new to the EM1X and currently renting the 300/4 Pro and the new Olympus 100-400, I realize its not a fair comparison though I was very impress with the IQ from the 100-400 shot wide open when compared to the 300/4 how do you think the new 150-400/4.5 in terms of IQ compares.. FYI I am a current Canon EOS R5 shooter with their 500/4 lens..
Thanks Steven, the 150-400 IQ is more like the 300pro than the 100-400. It has that crisp detail with soft bokeh like the other Olympus pro lenses.
Grear review I wait for my thank
Thanks a lot 🤙
There are no doubts that's a great lens, Olympus knows how to build incredible lenses. The only problem is the camera AF that's still one or two steps behind others.
In your experience, where is the AF lacking?
The keeper rate is pretty lower compared to others, now I'm thinking to upgrade my EM1mk2 to mk3 or em1x but at the same time I have some doubts.
Many times the AF is not able to recognise the subject or it focuses the background instead of the subject which is clearly in foreground.
It's a pity because we can have very long Tele but the AF makes me loose many shots. I'm quite expert and tried different settings but in the end I just know I will miss shots.
I shot with EM1mk2 300/4 mc14 or mc20.
I would suggest that you try the latest cameras before you decide the system is “behind”. I do pretty well with the 1X and the mkIII 😉
@@RobKnight I'm reading reviews and watching videos and yes the em1mk3 and em1x have higher keeper rate than EM1mk2 but still less than others. BTW I'm not an hater or so, I shot with Oly for almost 18 years and I really appreciate the system. Saturday I was shooting at some Red kites (Milvus milvus) when they were mobbing another bird of prey (Buteo buteo), suddenly a couple of ravens started mobbing all them. I have 0 shots from that scene. 😞
Btw the system is not behind but the AF.
Thank you for replying ☺️
I also wish I can fly back to Costa Rica
Will this awesome lens work on my Panny G9 Rob?
Yes it will, but you won’t get the dial IS or phase detect AF you would get on an Olympus body.
SOLD
I just bought the Olympus 300mm f4. And 1.4 tele comverter. Should i exchange it for the 150-400mm and pay the difference? Or is there a reason to have both?
If you can afford it I would definitely say yes. Keep the teleconverter and exchange the excellent 300f4 for the more versatile and equally excellent 150-400 pro.
@@RobKnight thanks for your answer 😁 but if money is no issue, is there a reason to keep the 300mm f4 lens as well if I'm going to buy the 150-400mm? Since its a prime should be something special about it? Or the 150-400mm totally replaces all its capabilities and I should have the 150-400mm only? I don't mind weight or size at all.
I don’t see myself carrying the 300mm f4 once I get the 150-400. I can’t think of a situation when I would choose the 300 instead of the 150-400.
@@RobKnight thanks so much for your answer! I'll go to the shop ASAP and exchange it 😁 thx! This helps a lot.
I do have the em1 mark iii. It costs almost the same as the emx1. Any reason to not exchange it since the emx1 got the bird af in the new update?
I use the 1X for wildlife because it balances so well with the telephoto lenses, especially the 150-400. I’m stoked about the firmware update too!
Thanks Rob!
This is one hell of a lens! Thanks for a very good review.
PS I hate Tony Northrup. Made some post the other day on his "review", he had a picture of the lens. One comment including the word unsubscribed. Look, this man does not even understand the difference between "equivalent" DOF f-stop and light gathering f-stop. He remind me of a bully in school. At least I shoved up his *** that I have studied Engineering Physics incl optics. Sorry, had to let some steam..........
Stay safe!
Hi Rudolf! Thanks for the kind words. I know exactly what you mean about the "equivalent" police. I have to vent about that from time to time myself😉
I unsubscribed from Tony too for the same reason.
@@bobessner734 I thought they were great in the beginning. But I feel they (he) are to much seeking sensational headlines, like a cheap tabloid. I also feel that he insults my intelligence. FF has nothing like my smaller ones, GM1 and GM5. I've also had heated debates of aperture. People now think that MFT only has half the aperture (ie numerical, 2 stops).
Apparently he also said that the Sony 200-600 is lighter than the Oly 150-400, which is simply wrong. The Sony is .5lbs heavier.
Nice lens but too pricey. I wonder with the teleconverter(s) (1.25x, and 1.4x), how does it perform in low-light during dusk and dawn hours?
I didn’t see any difference in the optical quality with the teleconverters. It’s just as sharp as it is without
great video !
I hope it works fine with my Panasonic G9. What do you think?
I’m sure it will work fine. You won’t get the 8 stops of IS or phase-detect AF you get on an Olympus body, but I believe the lens has 5 stops of IS on its own.
Seems that OLYMPUS released a specific filter for that lens, with a diameter of 95 mm I think, at a price of $ 350 or so… does it make sense to buy a mere protection filter at such a price? OK, you invested $ 8000 in the glass, so why being picky over the filter, but still I was wondering if there would be cheaper alternatives from third parties?
Yes, the Olympus filter actually has the same coatings as the front element of the lens. It resists water spots and flare, so it’s not just a big protective filter. I’m sure you would be able to find a cheaper alternative, but it wouldn’t have the same performance.
Do. you have one to own yet?
Nope. I believe only one of my clients has received his preorder so far. And he ordered the lens through an Olympus pro dealer when it was announced!
Will this lens work with an original OMD EM1 body?
Sure!
Thanks for the presentation, but need Images to see. Oops. I see you added it to "Show More..."
Great review! You got a new subscriber :) Now I just have to figure out how to afford this lens.
Thanks Johan! I’m trying to figure out the same thing
Hi Rob. Good review, thanks. Are you a modeller?. I think I’ve seen you in a Facebook modellers group. Me too!! 😀
Thanks Carlos, I'm not sure what sort of modeller you mean, so I guess I'm not one😆
You’re right. I meant plastic scale aircraft. 😁

There’s a link in the description
Any photos?
I’m going to put a sample gallery of full-size images on my website this weekend after I get to shoot more with the lens

An amazing lens and almost half the price of the one I have on order! Worrying!
It really is amazing 😃
Tiny Home lens..., cannot imagine a second mortgage. That said, beautiful shots you've exhibited.
Ugh, this lens is going to haunt my thoughts every time I want to reach for the 100-400mm. I know it's a pro lens But at the price I won't be picking up a copy for a good long while! What do you think between the 100-400 w/1.4x & this lens - for someone who won't make money off the images produced - would you rather take the cheaper lens and travel or the $7500 pro lens and sit at home?
If you’re not making money with your photos it is hard to justify the price of this top-end lens. You make an excellent point about using the extra cash to travel! Just don’t try the 150-400, or it will truly haunt your dreams 😉 You can always rent one when the rental houses get one
🙏🏾
USD 7.5K is not half of what you pay for the Canon EF 200-400 1.4x f/4 at USD 11K (B&H prices)
Ok, thanks for updating that 👍
Wating this lens from long time , any sample image ? I don’t know when they make new good camera , i will use GH5s because Olympus don’t have a good camera
Thanks for the comment. I’m going to post a gallery of images this weekend after I get another couple of days of shooting in. I don’t shoot a lot of video, but I can tell you that the Olympus cameras are much better and have much more reliable auto focus than the Lumix cameras for still photography. I’m sure this lens will work fine on the GH5S as well
Samples are up on my website... robknightphotography.com/olympus-m-zuiko-ed150-400mm-f4-5-tc1-25-is-pro-samples/
Rob Knight Thank you very much , yes I agree , Gh5s for video on 4k 24fps mood will give outstanding result and uncomparable with any others camera systems because the crispy imags from 4/3 system already givs a great MTF results , this is my old info wich is let me to understand that
I can afford it but still think its a little over priced , i think 4000 would have been a fairer price, maybe if i lived in the Yellowstone or the plains of Africa the Amazon or somewhere like that then i would , who knows might still pull the trigger but probably overkill
Lenses like this are definitely not for everyone
@@RobKnight Very true if it had been 600mm or 2.8 then they would have a winner imo it's not quite good enough for an mft sensor and pretty over priced when you can get the excellent 100-400 for over 5 times cheaper, your not getting over 5 times better.
just the game change for OM needed.. Sad that had to sell.. Before this Glory could be released. Hahaha everyone that bag omdeX will biting there tongue off..
$12,000 in Australia. Ouch!
Dang! You could fly to the US and pick one up 😃
Olympus is a defunct entity. Suspect after sales services, if required, might not be available for this lens or any other Olympus imaging equipment!
What's your opinion on this?
There is a big difference between selling a business and closing a business. The Olympus imaging business has been sold to a company who has specifically said they intend to continue the imaging business. The only people who have said Olympus is “getting out of the camera business” are those who haven’t actually read the press releases or statements in full. Even the BBC reported that after the first press release about the sale which didn’t say anything of the sort.
@@RobKnight, Let me quote from the BBC news release of 24 June 2020:
"Olympus, once one of the world's biggest camera brands, is selling off that part of its business after 84 years.
The firm said that despite its best efforts, the "extremely severe digital camera market" was no longer profitable.
The arrival of smartphones, which had shrunk the market for separate cameras, was one major factor, it said.
It had recorded losses for the last three years....
Olympus is now seeking to strike a deal to carve off the camera part of its business so that its brands - such as Zuiko lenses - can be used in new products by another firm, Japan Industrial Partners.
In a statement, the Japanese company said that it was business as usual until then."
Now, the bottomline is; Olympus Corporation doesn't own the camera division any longer. Therefore, lot of thought is required before investing 7.5k dollars for a glass of this caliber. Example: recently I bought the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM (6.2k dollars) with little thought. The moment fund was available, I made the purchase together with a 2x TC of same brand. Because I'm convinced I'll get the lens and camera support from Canon for many years to come. Wondering whether same can be assmued for Olympus!
It’s funny that you quote that BBC article. I remember being surprised when I read that because it showed such lazy “journalism”. At that point Olympus had released ONE press release that stated their intent to sell the imaging division to JIP. That’s it. That entire article was written out of complete conjecture based on a one-page press release that didn’t say anything about “getting out of the business”.
Since June there has been a lot of communication from Olympus and JIP about their intent moving forward. All of that information is considerably more important than an assumption made by the BBC (and many others, I might add) several months ago.
Based on everything Olympus and JIP have said, publicly and internally, I am confident about the future of the new OM-D company. As a sponsored ambassador for the company, I’m staking part of my livelihood on all of this. And I don’t do that lightly. No one in the company has told me anything about closing or exiting the camera business.
@@RobKnight, well, in case Olympus was confident about the future of their imaging equipment business, this issue wouldn't have popped up in the first place. They definitely are not as optimistic about it as they were in the past. It is no secret that they account for a small segment of the camera market. So, there is a niche but now, that chunk also seems questionable. The entire camera market has shrunk substantially due to the emergence of smart phones. The statistics speak about that reality clearly. That's why they are selling to or teaming up with JIP.
Foot note: When I stepped into digital photography in 2008, started out with an Olympus Point & Shoot pocket camera model FE 340. Undoubtedly, it introduced me to the wonderful world of digital photography. But sadly, it didn't impress me with the quality of its output. That was achieved by a Canon P&S camera bought same year and allured me into their world till now.
The idea now is that the camera company will be more nimble without being a small part of a larger company. Which makes a ton of sense if you’ve ever worked with a large corporation like this.
Don’t let your point and shoot experience from 2008 decide your opinion about micro 4/3 in 2020. 😉
Dont give it to Northrup, he will bash it to bits
Lol. Don’t worry, he hasn’t even seen this lens in person, much less actually USED one 😆
@@RobKnight Yea, but if you see how he trashed the 300 Pro by not focusing the image correctly, and try looking at how he trashed Steve McCurrie from his lounge chair at home
10000$ your not serious
Very disappointed in the images Rob.
Although I would have loved to have more than three days behind the lens so I could shoot some different subjects, I am very pleased with the optical performance overall.
Brilliant quality lens but way overpriced
Not if you compare it to similar quality lenses with constant aperture and built-in teleconverter 🤷🏻♂️
It is an overpriced f/9 lens. With teleconverter even f/11. What a hell. Not just overpriced, also your subject separation is gone. Nice try from Olympus to see the table silver before going out of business finally.
😆😆😂🤣 sure, man 👍 have fun with your theoretical specs. I’ll be out making pictures.
I have to laugh at the "pro" designation. I can't see a Pro using micro 4/3rds. The label is just to attract the neck ornament brigade!
As a professional photographer who uses m4/3 (as do many of my colleagues) I think your comment is pretty ironic 😆
@@RobKnight you were very polite with your reply. 😂
I try 😉
@@RobKnight that lens looks amazing
It is, for sure
Olympus last attempt to squeeze money as much as possible from their fans.
It’s not Olympus‘a last anything
