    The corrections cinematic universe is just incredible. The callbacks, interaction, and meta jokes are something that no late night talk show host has ever done before and probably won't ever do again. As a former turkey-processing plant worker, I can assure you that the ingredients and the nuggets in a chicken-nugget factory are not processed in the frozen state. A reasonably alert and nimble child could snag some nuggets before they are frozen. The nuggets are raw in some places and the factory is cold, but any fast-food diner probably has encountered worse.

    • @Gildedmuse
      @Gildedmuse ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Torrana I also had questions about that statement. Surely the whole purpose of a nugget processing facility would be to take poultry and process it into nuggets. To say "the nuggets are frozen so a child couldn't get to them" seems to imply that either:
      1. The child ONLY has access to the finished product and not to any of the other steps along the way, which, honestly, at that point the fact they were frozen would be far from their biggest problem. How are they going to break into the sealed bags, since I assume most factories don't just dump all their frozen nuggets into a pile and then have employees come and sort them one by one into bags; it's likely just one of the steps along the conveyor belt, surely. More importantly, how is this child expected to survive since - seeing as they only have access to the end product - *they have been locked in a freezer*. Typically, you don't store frozen food at room temperature, and since the hypothetical child can only access to final, frozen nuggets, I assume they have been locked inside the freezer. "You wanted nuggets? Now you shall BECOME a nugget!"
      2. From the moment the birds are brought to processing, they are frozen and at absolutely no point in the process are they ever in a non-frozen state. I'm unsure how this would work, since nuggets are all precooked before being frozen, unless the birds are brought to the plant fully cooked? Beyond that, though, it seems like it would take up so much more energy to process frozen birds, stripping out the bones, crushing up the meat, forming it into nuggets. You think at some point someone along the way would have pointed out how much easier so many aspects of this process would be if they were simply to, you know, *slightly thaw* the meat first.

    Jackal-on-jackal correction: the toddler in the chicken nugget factory could indeed eat the nuggets to avoid starvation, because they are formed, coated, and deep-fried *BEFORE* being frozen and packaged. Provided the toddler could find the proper point on the assembly line, an endless stream of warm edible fried nuggets would be available.

      @@AhavaMathCorrection of Correction:
      Since we have already as a given that the factory deep fries the nuggets before freezing them, any competent child could easily break off a chunk of ice from the freezing chamber--the child may even purposely open the freezing chambers to force deposition of ice crystals from the ambient humidity onto the cold surface. The child may then easily harvest said ice, and scoop it up for consumption. Thus, dehydration is clearly not a problem for a child whose mental faculties are in tact.

    CROSS-JACKAL CORRECTION: pigeons are not the smartest birds - crows and ravens are! corvids have the longest childhoods of birds (~two years), because the tradeoff of an extended period of helplessness is more developed brains. this is why humans are the smartest in the animal kingdom - babies and toddlers are helpless for so unusually long.
    edit: just got to the part in the episode where you mention the exploded mourning dove - not a correction, but since we're on the topic of owls, i wanted to add that when people think they're hearing owls hooting in north america, it's usually a mourning dove's coo! they're quite common in new york, too. they're really cute!

    Correction: Nearly all contact lenses sold today are made from a specially formulated hydrophilic polymer, making them effectively impossible to crack. But they are only used for extremely rare conditions, and I'm fairly certain that Seth doesn't have keratoconus.

    • @Feralsquirrel

      I think this is an important correction, so thank you for your service. At worst (in the exaggerated world of the joke) the contact lens would get folded up and pushed to the back of the eye. He's assuming we all get that he'd be wearing a rigid gas permeable contact lens (RGP), which provides sharper vision but is much less common now. And I think it's worth pointing out that if he were wearing a soft lens so dry it could crack, he would probably need to see an ophthalmologist rather than a dry eye specialist, because his cornea would be damaged.

    I'm sure it's been pointed out before, but the intro music is very similar to Fine Young Cannibals' "Ever Fallen In Love." Which is cool! I like that song. Also appropriate for the show would be "She Drives Me Crazy," as the jackals annoy Mr. Myers a bit.

    I actually studied Bird Law in college, and one of the first things you learn is that Turkey Vultures are the smartest birds. They're carrion the entire class. Some people tend to think it's Woodpeckers, but they're only descent.

    To correct the jackal who corrected the owls joke with the pigeon joke, the smartest birds are actually members of the corvid family which includes Ravens, mynah birds, and crows. Of those three particular species, Ravens are the smartest. There was a study some years back where they tied a piece of meat to the end of the string and they made sure the string was just longer than the bird could reach with their beak. Crows would reach down grab the string pick it up drop it try again and again and again and never be able to get to the meet. Ravens reached down, grabbed the string with the meat on it in their beaks, it pulled it up stepped on the slack string, reached down, and were able to get the meat

    CORRECTION: A mourning dove being exploded is not "like a hearse going off a cliff." Hearses typically contain two people. One is already dead and, therefore, not mourning. The other is the driver and an employee of the funeral home. Since he or she is likely personally unconnected to the deceased, it is also unlikely that he or she is in mourning.
    I think you mean that a mourning dove being exploded is like a funeral procession being hit by a roadside IED.
