I live in Jamnagar (India) and Asia's biggest refinery is around 40 km away from the city. I can spot these flares lightning the sky from my appartment's terrace at night. It's so beautiful yet scary to watch the scene.
that is a big refinery 220bpd, I counted 6 flare stacks thats alot, the refinery near me in philadelphia pes which closed after a large fire in 2019 produced 330bpd but only had 4 stacks, which seldom lit. They always use the excuse they are safety measures but believe me when they burn like that there is a serious malfunction and a very dangerous situation...
We saw this flare from our highrise window in Chicago. That explains the mystery. And oh my!
