CW at 18 WPM using Icom IC-705, mAT-705 atu, end-fed random wire antenna (K6ARK matching unit with 12 m radiator and 5.2 m counterpoise) and BaMaKey TP-II twin paddle key.
World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF) activation of Awabakal Nature Reserve (VKFF-1882) located south of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. Activation on Saturday 25 February 2023. Operating on 40m (7.032 MHz) and 20m (14.065 MHz).

Hi Raul, “44” is often used as part of the sign off (i.e. best regards) for World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF) contacts. Some use “73 44” and others just use “44” as the sign off for WWFF. “44” is generally not used with other types of portable activations such as SOTA and POTA. Thanks for watching the video, 73

TU FER ANR GRT video, James! Isn't K6ARK matching unit cool? With ambient noise on the video W6 station was way below the "noise" level, only presence was discernible. Congrats with another DX on portable QRP!

The K6ARK matching unit is great, it is very small so it suits portable activations. The W6 contact was very difficult, I could just make out the call sign and signal report above the noise floor. Unfortunately the wind makes it impossible to hear on the video, 73

Thank you Peter for your comments. It was a beautiful location to operate portable. However, there was a very strong wind off the ocean (which you can hear in the video). Luckily the telescopic mast managed to stay up ok, 73

Thank you Alex for your feedback. The speaker is a “Native Union Monocle” and you should be able to buy it on Amazon or EBay. It is a great speaker and works well with QRP radios, 73

Thanks Dennis, it was a great location with views of the ocean and rock platform below. However, there were very strong winds off the ocean. I was using an mAT-705 antenna tuner with the end-fed antenna which provides very low SWR on all HF bands, 73
