    I started my dreads with very short hair, so I had a lot and never separate them. They are a bit longer now, after 5 months and I have fewer dreads, most congos and I love them that way.

    I seperate mine all the time, they are almost 6 months old. I find myself doing it out of habit now, and have slowed down a bit because I catch myself doing it even when they don't need separating.
    However, I do seperate them EVERY SINGLE TIME after I wash them. Washing them really makes the roots clump and stick together. Personally I definitely recommend at least once a week, and particularly after a washing!

    hello, i love your videos and i took a lot of information from you. i was washing my dreads once a week and was crochet them a lot and palm rolling and all the thing. now i wash my dreads three times a week and do nothing for maintence. since then my dreads are getting thicker and look better. the hair that i always was crochet back in the dread is now dreading and melting itself, so the dreads are becoming thicker. thank you very much man, youre the best.

    I've been on my loc journey for the past 5weeks now and my hair is very soft and fine and I seem to have to separate them no less than once a week. The loose hairs at the roots start to cross cross into the next loc. I thought that maybe I was doing something wrong but thanks to your video I see I'm on the right track. Thank you so much for your awesomely cool videos!

    I Love your videos!! I have wanted dreads since high school(About 13 years or so...). I am now a semi truck driver and decided Now would be a Great time for them!! So... I am in the process of doing them myself. I have very fine and straight[most days] hair and am doing the twist and rip method while back combing the roots when I first start them and then crochet a LITTLE. The first day I got my crochet hook, I went a little crazy on my 4 dreads and was Very happy with the result! And theeeeen I watched your video on crocheting and decided maybe I should hold back on the crocheting a bit and just do it when I Really feel they need it.
    Every day, I make one or two or three (However much spare time I have to do make them).
    I Must say, your videos, because you have So Many on So Many subjects about dreads, have been Most helpful!!! So thank you so much!!

    I've always heard it can cause damage to seperate dreads when they're wet. I separate my dreads about once a week and that seems to be doing well enough for my hair.

    Question: when superating new dreads should I be overly concerned if I actually break the hairs that’s are combined. I’m finding some in the back grabbed a few hairs while I was crocheting and I try so hard to get that few hairs out but honestly just feel like ripping it. Like what’s a few hairs?! Haha

    I'm sure you've heard about using aloe Vera leaf in your hair as a moisturizer considering the amount of knowledge you have on the topic of locs. I was wondering if you could provide me some advise I am currently free forming my hair and I attempted to use aloe in my hair, but didn't strain it well enough. I ended up with pulp stuck in my locs do you have any idea on how I can get it out? I appreciate any help thanks

    I hate separating my dreadlocks!! But I don't want congos lol Mine are 14 months old and since about 10 months old when I go to pull them apart the hair just stretches and doesn't break anyway, so I just leave them until it turns into a problem!
    When they were younger though I was having to pull them apart daily!

    • @LazyDreads
      @LazyDreads  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Zsolt345346 I can, but most often your natural hair density is going to dictate how thick/thin the dreadlocks are and so it's a non-issue.

      Lazy Dreads Yeah, i know this, but i thought till now that, only dense hair can be tied into dreadlocks, but if you do a video about this, i wanna know the difference and pros/cons between big dreadlock sections and small dreadlock sections. Thanks for reply.

    I have another question. I've got dreads everywhere except the nap of the neck and behind my ears. It just stays fluffy. Will it lock overtime or should I go to a salon and have them fix it? I'm free forming with curly afrolike hair but not nappy. I'm 8 months into the process.

    My dreads are 9 months old and I often find myself separating my dreads unconciously like in the train, in school, etc. Only after washing my hair I really sit down and separate them for 10 min or so because then they really start to knot together.

  • @GuntherBonsall

    QUESTION: I am just starting dreads and my hair is only about 10 inches, I am a very active person. I do BMX about 5 days a week and that involves lots of spinning and jumping that throws my hair all over the place. Should I keep my hair in a hat or bandana or something while i bike or is the tossing of the hair going to benefit the knotting process? thank you

    • @mollysun4637
      @mollysun4637 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of the movement will encourage knots to form and be good for the dreads! Just make sure that you wash them more frequently because you'll be sweating a lot and may produce more oil on your scalp which can slow down the locking process. Happy dreading! :)

    So random question.... I have super thin hair and it thins out even further before thickening up due to weather changes. Knowing this, would dreading my hair at all be a good idea? I've been looking into this for about 5 years now and I want to finally just make a move on it but now I'm wondering if it's even a good idea trying.

    • @LazyDreads
      @LazyDreads  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +DaughterOfTheUniverse if you have hair, you can form dreads - thinner hair just means thinner/fewer dreads.

    • @ko7356
      @ko7356 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got very fine and thin hair (especially at my crown) and recently dreaded all of my hair. I have about 80 dreads and some are very thin, but I am told they will plump over time. It's a personal choice on how many dreads you would prefer to have. For me, more dreads means less scalp peeking through.

      You dont need ANYTHING to lock your hair. toss the brush, toss the comb, toss conditioner. The neglect method requires barely any maintenence. Only separating, and washing

    • @mollysun4637
      @mollysun4637 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your dreads will lock without them, you can use them if you really want to but they won't encourage knots to form. It'll just stick the hairs together and can be a pain in the ass to wash out. I'd say just leave your dreads to dread naturally :)

      Connor McQuillan the best thing I've done for all the hate was to research the history of dreadlocks and how they are cleaned etc so I can bombard them with facts when I get a stupid comment. Most people are receptive to being corrected, they're just ignorant and go "oh, really? Wow I didn't know that!" A lot. Do what you want with your hair! Happy journey 🦁

    Question: can I strictly wash my dreads with baking soda and water or will that eventually negatively effect my dreads?

    • @tdaddy1092
      @tdaddy1092 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      PlantifulHippie hey I've used baking soda on my dreads since the start and months before I even got them. It won't effect them negative if your hair/ scalp is used to have baking soda to cleanse it. I find it can make them feel a little dry on occasion so when they get older you may want to use both baking soda and acv. If you decide baking sodas your choice , I currently rinse 2 times a week 1 with just water, 1 with baking soda and water. I'd say that you need to see how your scalp likes it for a couple weeks, and if it does then your all good!

      so..?? just separate them..?

    • @14TylerA
      @14TylerA 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lefty Aragon frodo is right, Its going to take a long time for your hair to be true dreads. But I found that palmrolling helped me quite a bit. it only took about 4 months for my hair to be fully dreaded and all I did was separate and palm roll (only a little) once a week after washing/drying.
      I've never used crochet hooks, but i have heard from many, many people that they should be avoided because they cause 'weak spots' in the dread and can cause them to get damaged and eventually start breaking and falling out.

    • @rachaelhughes7835
      @rachaelhughes7835 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lefty Aragon as long as they're still in their original sections it will be fine. When I first started dreading my hair they all came undone from the roots too. It's completely normal. Lazy dreads has a video about it, look through his page and watch everything, you'll feel a lot better. It's just a really long process and apart from separating your dreads you just have to leave them and wait.
