Question... I have 2 month young dreads... I always color my hair..I know the washing can be rough on young dreads... If I just do my roots is that going to ne to much on my roots..
My dreads are 1-3 days old (took my from wednesday to friday to do them lol) and this video was so helpful!! I just gotta say, you have amazing skin! I was almost distracted by it!
2023 - great video; it help to trained my scalp before I get locks. Now I'm turn one month and the transition was smooth and easy. Thank you so much for this invaluable knowledge! I wish you the best and a happy life. Sláinte from Mexico!
I’m so glad I watched this i literally just washed for the first time after 6 days and they got super frizzy and kinda loose so I got scared and started crocheting them too be tight again than stumbled upon this video and now I’m so much more understanding the frizz is normal as for the little loose hairs
I have not washed my hair with shampoo for about 3 and a half months now, instead i have used cider vinegar and salt water. My hair and head is a lot healthier than it has ever been and dreading is easy, even though my hair is only 5 inches.
I've just started putting small dreads in my hair after dying and washing it last night and I was very curious about how often to wash them. Luckily, I wash my hair maybe once or twice a week, sometimes longer because I have no motivation whatsoever so I should be okay. This video was really helpful so thank you :)
I just did my first wash 4 days after starting my new short hair (3 inches) backcombed dreads. I used a hair net while getting my hair wet, then remove it to apply/massage a teaspoon of dreads shampoo on my scalp and then, placed back during rinsing. So far soo good, baby dreads still on and the best of all, is that is was able to stay under the water and relax for a while, without worrying too much about my young dreads falling apart. Best feeling ever after the first wash!
Thank you for taking the time to make all your videos! You are easy to watch/listen to, and I appreciate that you explain some of the "science" behind why hair does what it does. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. My dreads are just over a 1 month old. You answer every question I needed answered. I wash my hair every 7-10 days. I never really washed my hair a lot in the first place. I have naturally coarse, curly, frizzy hair. So it's about what I washed it to begin with. The Frizz is horrible at this point. I thought man it seems after I wash my hair my dreads are a lot loser and falling out, but this video was point on and helped me so much. Thanks for taking the time do help people like me with their questions.
i waited for 6 days and i wash my hair once per week! i got dreads my dreads 3 weeks ago and they looks a bit messy but they will come together within a year as you say i hope! =) thanks for this video!
I just washed my dreads after contemplating whether I should not and they look great! I didn’t wash my hair for 2 months before dreading it then continued for another 2 weeks. This video was a good push of faith
I never liked videos where people are talking too much BUT your video is super informative - things that makes sense. Thank you for your awesome knowledge.
I had no idea it's normal for young dreads to loosen n get all frizzy after a wash, I thought it was something I was doing wrong. I'm so glad, I was just about to take em out thinking I failed. lol
Question: is it easier for thinner/less wide dreads to lock up and grow faster then thicker/ wider dreads? I have norised that the ones i have that are thicker are alot smother then the thinner ones. Does this affect the growth at all? Thankful for answer
The sebaceous glands (oil producing glands) may be a bit unbalanced when first starting dreads as I'm now noticing, you are right about setting a pattern. It's like eating and sleeping, patterns create balance.
I myself did not change my hair washing routine. I have naturally curly hair anyway and using a residue free shampoo as u have suggested in the past, I wash my youngins once or twice a week.
totally agree with you my dreads are 5 years old now but I gotta tell u when I got my dreads 5 years ago the lady told me no wash for 6 months ,, I thought I die lol!!!!! thanks been watching ur videos 5 years !!!! great!
I got my hair twisted last Sunday (the 5th of February) and I am about to wash it for the first time today (the 13th of February). I am a little wary but from what I am finding online i should be good. Going to have a cap on while i rinse and shampoo them out as I read that that should help keep them in place. I just have to say thank you for taking the time to make all these videos, I am on day 1 (first full day of having my baby dreads) and I am finding your videos so informative and they make me excited for mine to mature! Thanks for the awesome videos!

Just from dreads not when I had Afro 10 months thanks I finally can understand what you mean I’m going to wash right now I normally do 3 day but I did like 5 or 7 days today’s not sure I did put a lil oil and your right it buildin up

I do love your videos. I find them very helpful and educational, especially considering I've been getting ready to have my hair dreaded but, I do however have a question. With being a newly "dread head" with getting dreads for the first time, what are you supposed to, or can you do with new growth?
I have straight hair and did twist n rip method. My dreads are very loose and flat (2 days old) should they be tight when I start them? I tried fixing them with a crochet hook but it doesn't really work because they're basically just messy/frizzy looking braids. Should I start over and do them tighter? Or will they knot up eventually? I'm so confused as to what they should be like to start with..
I changed my washing to every other day 6 months before I back combed and kept washing the same after I did the back combing. Never changed it up for a week or anything.
Thanks for the Videos.. They make my baby dreads seem.. less scary lol I think ill wait 7-8 days or until i get my dollylocks shampoo bar in le mail until i wash instead of the 4 weeks they told me at the salon my head tends to get kinda oily..
I just started my new dreads, I got myself into the pattern of washing once a week. My dreads are about a week old and itch pretty badly is it normal? My hair isn't very oily.
@@LazyDreads I started my dreads in September (had my first retwist being of month) and I have a 4c hair texture I haven’t washed my dreads yet,my scalp has mild itching is it time to wash?
appreciate you man! just started 4 days in wondering if I should wash them today they knotted pretty good I'm using beeswax to start n I wanna wash it out n put more
Soooo....just saw this video after starting mine a month ago cuz was told wait 8 weeks!!!! So now what is my best option??! The cider vinegar wash or regular dandruff wash?? Because clearly it needs to be washed asap
Dude ur spot on as I was washing frequent (curly girl hair method ekk lol 🤷😂🤚🤪) I'm going to email u pix to show I mine OHHH I'm stoked they look Soo cool n I just FINALLY lol finished early yesterday am . I've made clay beads do u recommend or not to add beads n things or wait no not at all I WANNA learn it all I'm totally embracing this awesomeness of dreads 💯😉👊👊🙌🙌👍
Hey Lazy Dreads , I was wondering if the crochet method is a good method to start dreads. I appologise in advance if you've already covered this topic in one of your videos and if you didn't please do. Thanks
Sam DaBam Crocheting is a popular method, there is plenty of crochet info out there, but it's not something that I will cover here because it is a method which carries more risk of hair damage (especially if carried out by someone who is inexperienced) and so it is not a method which I myself am comfortable recommending to everyone.
You said in your "how-to" videos (on twist/rip and backcombing) that you didn't like to leave in the hair ties (rubber bands, whichever you want to call them) Do you leave them in during the first week? And if so, should you wash with the rubber bands in?
How about getting them wet? Same thing I started them on vacation cuz ocean and saltwater help dreads that I’ve heard but idk when I can get them wet again
Wel I did the Sea salt spray about a month after I started, when all of my dread we're in the 4 to 3 inches, and a tell you it really works it ties up my loose hairs like that makein then look style in and heavy, stopin them from stickin up, I only do it once a week after I wash...
Jada Nicole Sea salt is about balance - it can help keep hair on the 'slightly dry' side and so make it more likely to form and hold knots. If your hair is soft, then sea salt can help make it a little more dry - however if the hair is already rather dry, then you'll not want to use sea salt. I would recommend using it the day you plan to wash your hair so it is not left on any longer than needed.
So I created my dread locks yesterday on my own using the back comb method, but I feel as they are too loose at the root & towards the tips. I keep thinking I need to back comb it more lol. As I woke up today with a nest of messy hair & but they are still in shape towards the middle.. Will this be a problem for locking ? Should I back comb more or will they naturally tighten & separate near the roots still?
Question(s): I am following the neglect method and the first knots have formed but they are not strong cause I ve started just a few days ago. So, if I wash my hair, will these knots be un-tied again? Will they keep being there? What will happen. And should I use a hair drier? And should I wash my hair as often as before starting neglect? Thanks.
So I already have 3 baby dreads in my hair that I just got 2 days ago do you recommend changing my shampoo completely or can I just wash those 3 with the baking soda paste....
So my hair is wavy so that means my hair won't lock up quick as theirs. I'm going for the freeform method and I have stopped combing for about 4 days haven't it in 4 days because I have no shampoo or anything for them, but my real question is, how am I supposed to wash my hair? What should I do while in the shower? How do I work my hair with my hands? Thank you in advanced.
ive watched just about all of your videos in like 2 days, lol. you have helped me tremendously!!!!! you helped me make up my mind about finally doing my dreads
I have very young dreads and I made the mistake of washing my hair quite often in the first week.. I believe the knots may be washing out a bit. Should I just neglect them and hope for the best?
I'm currently contemplating getting dreads but I am just unsure of how to properly start, do I just go from using my normal shampoo to using a residue free shampoo to get my hair used to the routine of not being washed or should i just stay with my normal shampoo to get into the routine until I can get my residue free shampoo?
I've heard you talk about basically having a schedule on washing your dreads. I'm going to start mine next week. I baby my hair a lot so I only wash about once a week or so. Pretty much whenever I feel it needs to be. Should I give myself a schedule or just continue doing the same?
I know this is old, but hopefully you'll answer.. I already don't wash my hair to often, maybe every 5 days. My question is can I use dry shampoo on the roots if needed? Like I'm going somewhere and don't have time to wash them? I'm doing a bunch of research before I start my dread journey. I have bangs which aren't gonna be dreaded, so I'll use dry shampoo in that area. Will it cause any problems with the dreads?
No one had a question similar, but I've been growing my hair for about 3 months now(from last haircut) I use a sponge to help my coils.. When I wake up they're almost all gone.. I thought I was supposed to wash less, I'm wondering should I wash more?
hi, I dont wash my hair with shampoo at all, for about over half a year now, I just wash it with hot water. Should I start washing my hair when I get a few dreads? (not planning on turning all my hair into dreads, just 3-5 dreads maybe for now)
Do you recommend using anything to wash new dreads with? Like a hat or something to help them not want to wash out? Going to start my dread journey today. Already have the wash pattern down just want to make sure they won’t wash out on my first wash. But I guess we’ll see how it goes!
I feel a little confused... I will be getting dreads soon, but, I dont shampoo my hair. Havent in months. (No its not greasy). Sooooo I should wash them after a week? Does washing them help lock if they aren't greasy? Like should I use one of those shampoos that like strip your hair of all oils? Should I not rinse new dreads in the shower for a week?
If you have new dreads in your opinion do you think you should tie them back with other dreadlocks use something like the neatlocs or just let them hang loose
Tying them back does not benefit the progress of the dreadlocks, it just benefits you as they are out of the way. Having them down allows them to move and increases the likelihood of knots forming.
How often should you use the Jamaican locking wax on new dreads and also is it ok to wet the dreads everyday? This is for new dreads in my case… thank you for any help!
Hi Wesley. I would never recommend putting any form of wax on your hair. With regards to washing, it would best to try and avoid wetting them every single day as the act of washing can be rough on immature dreads.
currently binge watching your dreadlock vids. NICE SHIRT BTW
2351marykate Glad you enjoy what I do. Many thanks!

Question: With my few day old dreads I am wondering if putting some gel and or hairspray in would be a good idea. What would you say about that?
raddom tutorials Gels, hairsprays and similar products are 'holding' products - they hold the hairs in a certain position for a certain style etc. While it's tempting to use them on dreadlocks to keep the hair 'held' in a more dreadlock-like way, it is not beneficial to the dreadlocks - 'holding' the hair in place stops the hair from being able to form new knots and progress. There may also potentially be issues with washing leftover products back out from inside the dreadlocks.

How about drying? Use a towel? Stroke in same direction?

I'm getting my dreds put in, in a few weeks. I'm older, so do use haircolor to cover my grays - will this affect my dreds in anyway?
Thanks:)
Does it really matter whether you use hot water or cold water for the wash ?
LOVE THE "FRIENDS" T-SHIRT!!!
you can wear a thigh high on new dreads when washing to prevent loosening
You said in your "how-to" videos (on twist/rip and backcombing) that you didn't like to leave in the hair ties (rubber bands, whichever you want to call them) Do you leave them in during the first week? And if so, should you wash with the rubber bands in?
Liza Rome I take them out on day one - they're for organising the sections while working across the head, nothing else.
this might be a stupid question but if I was my dreads with natural soap or shampoo will I have to re wax my dreads after washing them
I have new dreads (1 month) and i use string to section/seperate them, how long should i keep the strings before i take them off?
How about getting them wet? Same thing I started them on vacation cuz ocean and saltwater help dreads that I’ve heard but idk when I can get them wet again
So I'm searching around your channel and I just started mine probably 2 days ago is it okay to use the sea salt spray method now ?
Or wait
Also I have the interlocked method
And I wanted to know in say 5 month or when they're better locked can I switch to free form ?

Do you cover your dreads every time you take a shower(besides when they need to be cleaned) or do you let them get wet?

I have extensions is it okay if i wash my dreads after a week or so? Would they come off?
You have the best T-shirts! Love it!
do you wait the same amount of time for new partial dreads? What would happen if i just wet them??
So my hair is wavy so that means my hair won't lock up quick as theirs. I'm going for the freeform method and I have stopped combing for about 4 days haven't it in 4 days because I have no shampoo or anything for them, but my real question is, how am I supposed to wash my hair? What should I do while in the shower? How do I work my hair with my hands? Thank you in advanced.
I got straight hair dreads I did myself witn twist and rip and palm roll they beggingkng to loc good. When should I wash them?
ive watched just about all of your videos in like 2 days, lol. you have helped me tremendously!!!!! you helped me make up my mind about finally doing my dreads
So im getting dreads soon. I think about making them short, like REALLY SHORT (5-6 cm). How long should i wait before the first wash at that length.
I have very young dreads and I made the mistake of washing my hair quite often in the first week.. I believe the knots may be washing out a bit. Should I just neglect them and hope for the best?
Thankyou for the information but I have a question does this apply to all hair types such as straight ,wavy, thick hair, curly hair ,wavy hair Etc.
Do I let them dry and then reroll? New dreadlocks like 6 days.
Question! Will dreads thicken up over time? I notice new dreads are small and thinner.
(not planning on turning all my hair into dreads, just 3-5 dreads maybe for now)
Can you use dry shampoo to some extent to help control the oil?
abcpo51515 If you're camping or something... it's not something you'd want to rely on as a regular thing, long term.
Hey Lazy Dreads, What can i use for washing my hair without available no residue shampoo at home
Good thing it's the end of summer and Ive only been taking a shower once a week
Do you recommend using anything to wash new dreads with? Like a hat or something to help them not want to wash out? Going to start my dread journey today. Already have the wash pattern down just want to make sure they won’t wash out on my first wash. But I guess we’ll see how it goes!
I went through SO many videos....came across yours and finally haha my answer was solved
When you say washing does that include running them under water in the shower? or is it okay to get them wet?
thanks justin
Lazy Dreads Thank you for the information
How often should you use the Jamaican locking wax on new dreads and also is it ok to wet the dreads everyday? This is for new dreads in my case… thank you for any help!
Hi Wesley. I would never recommend putting any form of wax on your hair. With regards to washing, it would best to try and avoid wetting them every single day as the act of washing can be rough on immature dreads.
