As a jazz player I've always loved nylon string guitars more than steel string. I just love their soft sound, and the way your fingers roll off the strings. In comparison, I've never been able to find a steel string that feels or sounds quite 'right' to me.
The Yamaha c40 is a great guitar! Got mine for about £60-80 maybe 10 years ago! I don't play a lot of classical these days so never really felt like upgrading from it, but I still go back to it. That said, I don't like steel string acoustic guitars, almost at all, I'm an electric n Yamaha c40 guy
I so agree with Pete. Guitars you always have to feel them. Twice in my life I have instantly fallen in love with 2 guitars and have bought them way outta my budget. No regrets. The Love is real ❤
I've always loved the sound of classical guitars, even the dodgy £40 Encore that was my first guitar 25 years ago. After that, I went the steel string route as you do but last year bought a nice Admira and I love it. Absolutely love the tone. I don't play classical or Spanish music but it still works and going back to a steel string now, the neck just feels way too narrow. Love 'em!
Another great video, another great intro jam. For a very long time, I didn't really think nylon string was something I had much interest in, but I've recently had my interest piqued after seeing Perkelt (Celtic medieval speed-folk!). Might have to dig out the dusty old classical box...
Steven Chabot yes!!!! I even went to Andertons this week, and had the pleasure of bumping into Lee and Rob. They asked me what I play, and I thought to myself, does watching your TH-cam videos count?? Haha
I watch Anderton's on my exercise bike and listen to Acoustic Paradiso when going to bed. Just chill enough to fall asleep to. That way I'm not wasting practice time
Have an old (1969) Harmony nylon string "classical" guitar. Solid spruce top, solid birch back and sides, ridiculously thick, wide neck. But love to play it as an alternative to all my steel strings.
I bought a Yamaha NTX Nylon a couple of years ago, specifically to start learning flamenco. So glad I did. It's a great alternative to the electric guitars I've been playing for years, when you fancy playing something a bit different.
Seeing guys all over Mexico playing nylon string guitars with a thumb pick, very common all over and on up in Texas in the USA! Makes me want to learn how to play that way but NEVER owned a nylon string, this video helps a bit to figure out where to start looking.
That first minute and a half was very soothing to my ears. It kind of makes me want to get a nylon string guitar. They're definitely geared toward pickers as opposed to strummers with the nice wide neck. The Neumann 184's seem to work really well on nylon string guitars, picking up the details but are not too boomy. I appreciate that you always got out a steel string to make it really obvious how different they sound. Thank you for the demo and discussion.
1984 xmas - got classical guitar from Santa - was over the moon, couldnt play it. roll forward 6 years started to get into it and play it , I wanted to play psycho killer so thats what i had, and on that huge neck ( at the time i thought all guitars were like this as i was self taught). Massive action strengthened my fingers. I got ok. Then borrowed and old steel acoustic man was it easy to play and get touch on but it made my fingers bleeeeeeedd, electric was even easier. But i wasn't introduced to thumb over for flipping years cos i just thought it was impossible thanks to the plank of a neck on that first classical!!! And I Still have it. great show guys, nylons do have a sweet dullness to them that i like.
Great vid guys. Feels like we're in your conversation and it's always cool learning from people who are interested in something new. Definitely get one. It's awesome having it around. I have a Yamaha from 1977, still sounds awesome. Oh also look into different tensions of strings. Low through high is what I'm used to seeing. I used to use low tension when I was younger because the high tension was alot harder to play.
I'm both a classical and electric guitar player, I know a bit of both techniques, and both are very enjoyable, so I would definitely advise any electric or folk player to try classical if they can. It is a nice way to learn finger picking. I also use my nylon for some kind of bluesy stuff and my electric with classical techniques, and that works quite well. Don't hesitate crossing styles, techniques, and guitars. Actually, you demonstrate that really well in this video, and your playing is quite good for non classical guitarists, so you absolutely don't need to apologize, you proved your point. Cheers
Great video. I play both classical and non-classical guitars. Classical are essential for for a number of genres including bossa nova and various jazz works.
Nicely done guys. Forgot how much I love the sound of a nylon string guitar. And how you manage to capture guitar sounds in your videos so well is incredible. I guess good mics and attention to placement etc helps, but considering the set up you have there, it always comes out absolutely fantastic! It's difficult to capture a good acoustic sound sometimes, but no problem here, and all your acoustic videos. Keep up the good work. I love the TV idea, or a videocast
I now have the urge to buy a nylon string guitar now, i actually had one when i was just starting out i saw it in a local newspaper for sale for £20 later found out it was worth quite a bit more than that but found out after i sold it :( especially loved the steel string vs nylon string jam
Thanks for doing this vid guys..I've been thinking about getting a nylon string guitar for ages just for a tonal change but haven't because I deemed it only suitable for classical and I'm not a classical player at all, this vid has helped very much :) thanks Mick & Danish Pete!
I'm with you Mick, never owned a nylon string guitar but always been interested in it especially lately for some reason. Lovely sound but I've tried a few out and the neck and fretboard are so wide! Still gonna get one soon. Willie Nelson made it work.
Thank you for this video, you both play very well! Don't be concerned about what other people might say! Keep teaching! The market for classical guitar strings is also very competitive!
Córdoba is also a fantastic mid range nylon guitar brand. I love mine. Also if you are a bass player who finger picks, it may be easier to transition to a nylon string.
I got my first nylon string last year when I was really digging Willie Nelson's sound, and I couldn't afford to buy a '69 Martin N-20, so I just wanted a cheaper one to experiment with and what I found was a used ~$175 Yamaha with a small crack under the strings that sounded better than most acoustic guitars I've played. I do a lot of acoustic and vocal stuff and I love a bass-heavy guitar and this thing had a warm tone that I loved and great bass response. I mostly play chords and use a pick, which really gives it that Willie sound, and bass runs sound awesome on it, so I'd recommend these to any guitar player who wants a different and unique kind of sound.
Great interesting different angle and entertaining video, nylon stands out in the 'mix'. Like the sound (and look) of the F4, but all depends on the feel in hands, and very flat, wide, chunky necks can be a bit of a shock to the system..... & the 'end' was hilarious !!!!
Great video and some tasty playing at the beginning. For some reason reminds me of Led Zeppelin. It has me interested in a nylon string acoustic now. Certainly to challenge my playing and expand my palette! Also kudos to Mick for the faith. I also have a faith and its mind-blowing quality.
I have a Godin Multiac ACS nylon string designed for electric players - slim radiussed fingerboard. A bit pricier than these but I bet you'll play it more....Keep up the fun.
BS! My hands are not big at all and I have no problem with their necks. Then again, my steel string guitar has a nudwidth of 1.75, so maybe I'm used to wide necks.
I know that this is bid was released a while ago, but you should try one of the nylon string Yamaha Silent Guitars. A bit different from a standard nylon string, but I like mine.
I almost bought a nylon string guitar this spring, but couldn't handle the wide neck or the missing markers. I'd still like to try a Taylor nylon string guitar, which has markers and a fretboard with some radius. If you could the Taylor nylon, I'd sure like your take on it.
I was waiting for the moment Pete would play Tears in Heaven, just had a feeling he'd do it... I you guys can't get on tv, you could always start a podcast and that melody could be the intro :)
A finely crafted classical or flamenco style guitar is indeed a thing of beauty. I have a Manuel Rodriguez that really looks like a work of art. I prefer the the extra wide neck I think because I have pretty big hands and long finders haha to the point that it is very challenging to play guitars on the other end of the spectrum
Just think of buying a yamaha NTX3 crossover then I saw this! Ordering a nylon string set with ball ends for my gsmini. Note the yamaha crossover has 1.89 but with 2" fretboard! So they are a compromise not a classic with a electric neck.
Hi Mick, hi Pete! I have a little suggestion: maybe you should try to film other "first impact experience" like this in other videos. I am a guitar player (bedroom guitar player lol) but I'd like the idea learning (and buying) a mandolin, a banjo or other similar strings instruments just for fun. Cheers from Umbria :)
I like the dark colored one as well. Sounded the best of the nylon stringed guitars. I'd suggest if/when you get the nylon one, learn to play it different than a steel string, so you can expand your horizons. :) Either way, you guys sounded great to me.
Good newbie intro and some nice noodles. Not to change brands on you, but ... Framus older classical's have an arched back body and a zero fret. The idea of a nylon with a zero fret is quite and eye opener. Give one a try when you run across it :) Try some Willie Nelson. Trigger is a nylon and he gets some serious country tunes out of it :D And the intro to Van Halen's Ice Cream man is great nylon go :D
Should do a video showing off your own guitars, reasons you bought them, what you use them for
Great idea! I'd love to see that.
yeah do that!I'd really like to see that!
yes!
Awesome idea!
Gonna be a looooong video, awesome idea
I like both acoustic and classical guitars, but let's face it... nothing beats the warm romantical tone of the classical guitar ♥️
As a jazz player I've always loved nylon string guitars more than steel string. I just love their soft sound, and the way your fingers roll off the strings. In comparison, I've never been able to find a steel string that feels or sounds quite 'right' to me.
Try better Takamine guitars.
Learnt on a classical and then bought a Taylor 110e steel string and absolutely love it
Drinking from a cup and not using the handle gives me the willys. So afraid of "THE CUP POLICE"!
You just gotta know how to play them
Fender Strats are pretty easy to play, so is an Ovation cedar top acoustic electric Balladeer made in Anerica.
I bought a Yamaha C40 two weeks ago, have barely picked up my steel-strung guitars since. Currently learning Classical Gas.
+Strat TelePaul Thanks, I'll check them out.
Geez, Mick. For someone who "can't play nylon strings" you do pretty damn well. Much like your slide playing on that compressor video back when.
I thought mick was laying it down.
Those loving gazes that Pete threw at Mick at the beginning... so much yearning for lust and love! The music really made the whole moment magical! :D
I so agree with Pete. Guitars you always have to feel them.
Twice in my life I have instantly fallen in love with 2 guitars and have bought them way outta my budget. No regrets.
The Love is real ❤
These types of guitars are just so emotional it's beautiful
yes, more nylon please. be fun to see you guys hang with a nylon player and i get to learn from your learnings.
Love 'em!
I have an admira they are a lovely guitar
Another great video, another great intro jam.
For a very long time, I didn't really think nylon string was something I had much interest in, but I've recently had my interest piqued after seeing Perkelt (Celtic medieval speed-folk!). Might have to dig out the dusty old classical box...
Love was in the air it seems
There certainly was something in the air :)
Sorry, i just had to fart really bad.
+Daniël Migchels 😊😄😊
I was thinking that lolololol
Hahaha the last minute is comedy gold. Good job, guys!
Do you mind to explain the joke about Willie Nelson? Spaniard here and I don't get it.
Make an album guys, make an album!
Haha it's nice to see something I suggested a while ago being done. Great video guys
Banjos and mandolins would be great fun :)
second that!
Nylon string banjo would be great.
I should stop watching these and learn to play properly instead...
I'm perpetually looking at guitars I want to play instead of playing the ones I've got :P
Welcome to the life of a guitarist
Steven Chabot yes!!!! I even went to Andertons this week, and had the pleasure of bumping into Lee and Rob. They asked me what I play, and I thought to myself, does watching your TH-cam videos count?? Haha
I recognize this 😀🤓
I watch Anderton's on my exercise bike and listen to Acoustic Paradiso when going to bed. Just chill enough to fall asleep to. That way I'm not wasting practice time
That would great six yrs down the road a sudden apperance on good morning Briton..🎉. We really do miss you two
Really enjoyed these two together. Good stuff fellas. Thank you.
And the OUTTAKES!!! LOL
Il divo are actually pretty huge in europe! Thats awesome Pete
please review more higher price classical guitars
You guys are great. Great musicians and great info and banter. One of my favorite youtube shows. Keep it up.
makes me think of my sisters brilliant classical guitar playing. Thanks!
How am I so late to this video?? That cedar beauty is by far the best, in my opinion.
13:25 holy... That was insanely good!!!
I really enjoyed watching and listening to this video! Great playing you guys!
Hey. amazing video,
I always enjoy watching you guys. Keep it up!
Have an old (1969) Harmony nylon string "classical" guitar. Solid spruce top, solid birch back and sides, ridiculously thick, wide neck. But love to play it as an alternative to all my steel strings.
Here in Spain everyone has one of those
hahaha 😂
And castanets too, I guess.
In South America too :)
Here in Mexico too
in Germany too.
I bought a Yamaha NTX Nylon a couple of years ago, specifically to start learning flamenco. So glad I did. It's a great alternative to the electric guitars I've been playing for years, when you fancy playing something a bit different.

and in person the differences are huge

You guys have way too much fun at your jobs!! I laughed out loud at the end of this video. Great job guys!!!

Wow. I really enjoyed that. One of the more interesting spots you've done.
Loved it! Thank you. I just did the same thing. Lots of fun to have a nylon guitar in the mix.
I played the Gibson Chet Atkins some years ago, which was great!
The Admira Guitars have a great rep. One of the most recommended lines on the Delcamp forum.
Danish pete..I remember that tune from NAMM. Fantastic! Beautiful tune.
Try the Yamaha NTX700. slightly narrower neck with side dots and sounds great. its my main acoustic
I want someone to look at me like Pete looks at Mick.
I'm both a classical and electric guitar player, I know a bit of both techniques, and both are very enjoyable, so I would definitely advise any electric or folk player to try classical if they can. you should call it Morning Wood :p
Bad Motivator lol nooo

That jam sounded great!
Great jams !
Of course, Martin makes a lovely nylon string, I have one and love it
I've been watching these videos for three days straight now and it's almost 1am on a Sunday night. Someone send help pls.
Intro jam is amazing!
Córdoba is also a fantastic mid range nylon guitar brand. I love mine. Also if you are a bass player who finger picks, it may be easier to transition to a nylon string.

ಠ_ಠ What? That's cool dude
Jerry Reed a hugely underestimated guitar player.
Mick should look at the Cordoba Fusion series. More comfortable for steel string players since it has a 16" radius and a 48mm nut.
Thanks Whac, good shout!
Not a problem friend.
The Fender cn 240sce thinline classical is a great choice if you normally play electrics, check them out. Great video guys as always, keep em coming.
Great interesting different angle and entertaining video, nylon stands out in the 'mix'. Like the sound (and look) of the F4, but all depends on the feel in hands, and very flat, wide, chunky necks can be a bit of a shock to the system..... & the 'end' was hilarious !!!!
Finally some Nylon action on Andertons !!!
12:12 Is that an oscilloscope in the back?
Great video guys you're both good players and I may have to pick an island string guitar up
"We will not be playing flamingo music" Danish Pete 3:31 .... lol
He may not be, but I'd love to see him try!
Entertaining.
I'm still waiting for the pair of you to top the Friedman Amps opening jam :)
13:23 was that a blues brothers reference?
I love nylon strung guitars they have such a beautiful soothing tone. Just a shame i struggle with their massively wide necks
BS! My hands are not big at all and I have no problem with their necks. Then again, my steel string guitar has a nudwidth of 1.75, so maybe I'm used to wide necks.
28:24
That chord combo sounded very cool
I learn all my new songs on my classic guitar and then play live with my acoustic Steel string. Perfekt match :)
I like the "Good Morning UK" ditty.
I know that this is bid was released a while ago, but you should try one of the nylon string Yamaha Silent Guitars. A bit different from a standard nylon string, but I like mine.
A very entertaining half hour guys, I play a cheap beginner nylon with a brass pick, I like the sound which at the end of the day is all that matters.
I almost bought a nylon string guitar this spring, but couldn't handle the wide neck or the missing markers. I'd still like to try a Taylor nylon string guitar, which has markers and a fretboard with some radius. If you could the Taylor nylon, I'd sure like your take on it.
This was a good video, I absolutely prefer nylon over steel so this was really cool! Thanks guys
So, how about listing your preferred nylon string of this excellent video?
You guys should do a video with some crossover guitars. They are many options nowadays
well done fellows, sounds good.
Before even watching the video, I'll say yes. As a dreadnought player I've had tremendous fun with a 90€ nylon string guitar lately.
I was waiting for the moment Pete would play Tears in Heaven, just had a feeling he'd do it...
I you guys can't get on tv, you could always start a podcast and that melody could be the intro :)
Never thought I'd see the day that the guys ventured into my sweet spot! Nylon all day long
anything skinnier than a 52mm fretboard, no thanks!
+John Manganaro the neck is the worst thing about them, nothing erong otherwise
A finely crafted classical or flamenco style guitar is indeed a thing of beauty. I have a Manuel Rodriguez that really looks like a work of art. I prefer the the extra wide neck I think because I have pretty big hands and long finders haha to the point that it is very challenging to play guitars on the other end of the spectrum
"The anals of rock music..." Pete's classic quotes...!!
Nylon guitars are so relaxing when you play them…please include more brands like hybrids
Just think of buying a yamaha NTX3 crossover then I saw this! Ordering a nylon string set with ball ends for my gsmini. Note the yamaha crossover has 1.89 but with 2" fretboard! So they are a compromise not a classic with a electric neck.
@@tikigodsrule2317 Try a Godin...you will be surprised...
You definitely should make more videos with nylon strings guitars. Alhambra makes awesome instruments.
As an alternative you may want to try a solid body nylon string. The neck width would be closer to that of an electric guitar. Godin makes a good one.
Great Video guys. Can you play some Archtops? maybe from the Loar.
I went to the Andertons link page and true yo form the description of the flamenco guitar is wrong.
Hey dudes, I was wondering if on acoustic paradiso, you could do a potted review of the sigma range?
I like the dark colored one as well. Sounded the best of the nylon stringed guitars. I'd suggest if/when you get the nylon one, learn to play it different than a steel string, so you can expand your horizons. :) Either way, you guys sounded great to me.
More Nylon videos please!
I recommend you start listening to Gipsy Kings
U guys may not play nylon a guitar the way it intended to be played but it sounds good and that's all that matters🤗
yessss! More nylon Demos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've got dots on my nylon (beginner) guitar, is that exeptional?
Here in Argentina nylon string guitars are the choice for folkloric music, probably because we were a Spanish colony 200 years ago.
Which guitar is best for a flamingo player? LOL Nice review of nylon stringed models. Hope you do one on the higher end of the price range.
Good newbie intro and some nice noodles. Not to change brands on you, but ... Framus older classical's have an arched back body and a zero fret. The idea of a nylon with a zero fret is quite and eye opener. Give one a try when you run across it :) Try some Willie Nelson. Trigger is a nylon and he gets some serious country tunes out of it :D
And the intro to Van Halen's Ice Cream man is great nylon go :D
