    I've had a 000X1AE for 5 years now and it is my go-to acoustic. The top has darkened over the years and I've written more songs on it than any other guitar. It goes on every trip with me. They are truly great acoustics with great pickups and tones!

    I remember when for the longest time that the most inexpensive (because we don't want to say "cheapest") entry point for a Martin was the 000-15 for $700-$800 US$. The "X" class was available via Martin's Sigma line for around $500. Unfortunately at the time, everyone treated those guitars like ugly step children. You didn't bring them out for anyone to see and ranked out the idea of actually owning one as the lowliest of acts one could be accused of. Later, after everyone was gone, you'd sit in the closet playing them. They would sound so lovely and you would feel so wretched for being ashamed of them. I know a guy that pawned his Sigma, but only after the pawn broker agreed to do the transaction in the alley where no one would see it. There are no bad guitars... just bad owners.

    I've picked up a 000X1AE a week ago, and after almost 8 years of a low budget yamaha, I couldn't be more happy.
    I love the string tension and how it sounds.
    The only thing that could be a let down for some people is the lack of finish, it feels a bit cheap. But I'm fine with that.
    I think it's one of the best "cheap" guitars out there.

  • @wutnot

    Fantastic acoustic blues playing from Mick in that one. I might have to try and take those lines. I can hear that the EC is easier to play and sounds much for 3D and complex in this video. I know it sounds silly that I can "hear" that it is easier to play, but I think I can.

    The HPL booms, because it is lighter. I think Martin put a lot of work in designing them, because they wanted to prove a lower priced Martin can blow out the competition and hang with the big boys. If I need a guitar that is loud without amplification, I pick up my old DM. It is a lot louder than my HD 28V and it isn't bothered by humidity. However, if I want something delicate sounding, the 28 is the way to go.

  • @stevebrooks9119
    @stevebrooks9119 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used to have a D28. I now have a 00015m. I much prefer the 00015m. It is a brilliant instrument, especially for fingerpicking blues. Get one. You will not be disappointed.

    I have a couple of Martin guitars. A 00028 and a 00016rgte. I tried out the Clapton signature model back when they first appeared and wasn't that impressed. The laminate model here is going to sound better (as far as I'm concerned) because you don't need to 'play' in' a laminate guitar. They just sound.....Well, like they sound. My 28 took about 3 years before I decided it had opened up. I almost sold it a number of times because it didn't live up to my immediate expectations of a Martin. My 0016, however came from a moron who had abused it somewhat. we had to use a wet cloth and an iron to lift some of the damage from the sound board. And re-glue the rosewood at the battery compartment. But this thing sings. Even with a cutaway. It sounded from the outset, waay better than my 28. It's nearly 11 years old now and I wouldn't part with it. The moral here is Martins need to play in. I personally have only picked up one Martin guitar, brand new; and thought wow! That sounds great..... Yep......... it was one of the laminate ones under £600. Makes you think.......

  • @festushagan3921

    I've always loved the sound of a Martin but never liked the feel of their necks. I'm going to have to check out that 000x1e since you say the neck is not as fat and narrower at the body. Thanks for the great comparison and some killer jamz, too!

  • @TheBrunoleocoelho
    @TheBrunoleocoelho 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great comparison! Martin's guitars are insane beautiful. No comments!
    I really liked the mahogany one! It has some kind of dark sound, what missed for other a little, in my opinion. And also it has a more vintage style, that is pretty good for me.
    I have to work a lot in my life to get some guitars like those. I hope to get one some day! :-/
    PS: The song from 26:06, it was amazing! Filled the place, and sounded so relaxing with great felling! Congrats both for that felling!

    For around £500, you'd be better off getting something like one of the lower end Eastman OM models. They are all solid wood, handmade guitars made using traditional luthier skills without machinery. Quite incredible for the money. The Martin 000x1 and other plastic guitars sound okay, but you can't beat all solid wood. It will age and open up much better than a guitar with just a solid soundboard and nothing else. The top end Martins are still very nice though....

      The OM has more punch and projection butit's a little harder to play. The Clapton is more focused on th fundamental notes and brings less overtones. Both are great for blues.

    For years I played the budget Martin in the Parlor size. I never really liked it. It was just a solid tool. I recently sold it and bought a Yamaha APX600. I liked the reduced size guitars. I can't believe how much the new Yamaha has inspired me. I can't wait to get my hands on it every day. It's simply a better guitar at a savings of about 40%. They're similar-sized but with the cut out on the Yamaha that allows playing higher on the neck. The Yamaha sounds better plugged in and similar acoustically. To each his own but if you're thinking about going for the cheap Martin, there are better choices out there. The cheap Martin does sound great in the vid, guys. I'm not paying 1000+ for a guitar.

    If on budget, Check sigma guitars, the used to be sister company for martin and made really close copies of martins, like epiphone do of gibsons. Good price and premium feel for the same money as Martins cheapest guitars.

      Trust me. There is a huge difference between a Sigma and a Martin. I own a Martin 000-28EC and I once tried a Sigma 000-28. The Sigma looks quiet similar, but compared to a Martin it sounds like a cigar-box. It is a great guitar for the price, but you really cant compare it to a high end Martin guitar.

    early 90s was when a lot of singer songwriters realized they could make their own CDs at home or in small studios and make 1000 CDs- most of those people played acoustic guitars and wanted something nice to play.. Many saw other songwriters making waves.. not just people like Clapton, or Cobain, but indy people like - Ani DeFranco, The Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin and many other Lilith Fair alumni who were talented acoustic artists. John Mayer and Dave Mathews also were of merit as inspirational to many regular people who then went out and bought high end guitars.

    Great playing guys. I’d love the EC signature but way past my budget. I play an Eastman OM model which is very close to the Martin 00028 in looks and sounds great for about a third of the price, but if I had the money I’d go for the EC. Not keen on either of the other 2. The 00015 is overpriced for what it is. The X model would be a good gigging guitar. I gig a Yamaha because I don’t mind if it gets a knock. So many good guitars out there now. Furch, Eastman, Collings etc.

    I bought the regular 000x1 in 2008, put an LR Baggs active element in it and I’ve been playing it out for 10 years now and I’ve gotten players using J-200s, D-28s etc...how I get my tiny Martin to sound that good? To be honest I don’t know but it sounds big yet bright unplugged and just knocks you away plugged in direct...best 800ish (total w/ labor) I’ve ever spent!

    On the other hand, if you don't mind not having the Martin name on the headstock, try a Sigma. They do lots of 000 models.

    The 000x1e looks a lovely guitar but £649 with 'laminated' back and sides! Youd have to be mad to buy it with so much choice of all solid wood guitars at that price point.
    Strange how when people talk about cheap guitars they use the word plywood but when its a Martin its called a laminate ;)

      the laminate on the x series isnt traditional plywood its more like a composite

    Do Martin guitars hold their value ? Does this depend on the model ? This might be a factor for some people buying. Also i guess that some guitars may sound better with age and those that are better constructed with more expensive woods may be a better long term investment.

    The original 1937 000-45 that he played on Unplugged has the 0M scale length. So, is the 000-28EC just a less well adorned version of that or is it different in that way?

    Where on earth do we get tuition books/videos on the Clapton style acoustic Blues playing featured on this video ? I don't mean the full Unplugged transcript - but a tutorial on broken down Blues licks. Whenever I get a book on Acoustic Blues it always takes the form of Stephan Grossman - which I am not a fan of and don't find very cool.

    Martins Ed Sheeran signature model has gotta be their most popular signature model.

    Make a 12 string guitar review. Like a 12 string vs 6 string.
