Greece's first ever medal in the long jump is gold! Bravo to Τεντόγλου 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷. Also, for anyone wondering why Tentoglou won, when his best jump was the same as Echeveria's, that's because Tentoglou's second best jump was at 8.16m, while Echeveria's second best was 8.11m. They are evaluated based on all efforts if their bests are tied.
Thobias Montler's final jump was for gold. Besides hard training you have to have luck to win such competitions. Well done Milto, you made us feel proud!
@@Sfaegbe I didn't know injuries are not part of a game! And even then he had 8.60 this year, he maybe won even if the Cuban went longer! We will never know!

Assuming he's clean, and I have no reason to believe he isn't, finishing top ten at two different events is an accomplishment on its own. Probably not as profitable, but definitely quite an athlete. Now that doping is pretty strictly watched and sports has matured, we won't see it happen very often.
That's not so. We can clearly see how pivotal jumps the Greek guy took. He was swift with the take off but couldn't reach the desired target initially. In the last he played it in mind and achieved it.
In the long jump you don't save your best for last... That's not how it goes, because you're not guaranteed to have a place in the last set. You're not guaranteed to have even a legal jump for any of the rounds. After 3 attempts, top 8 move on to get 3 more jumps. It's ideal to jump your best on your first/early attempts, because those are the rounds in which you affect people mentally. At the end of the day, you save your best for ALL of your attempts.
Keep in mind that the Greek guy, Tentoglou, also carried a knee injury (he had surgery 3 monthes before the Games). That is why he didn't take the 4th and 5th attempts. He saved all his energy for the 6th attempt, to go all out if needed. And boy, was it needed.
If Miltiadis can improve in speed, then over 9 metres will be normality for him. He has by far the best technique as well as the type of body for long jump.
Here's where Mike Powell broke the world record on 30 August 1991, on this site. He leaped 8.95 m (29' 4.36"). In the end, his record & Robert Beamon's Olympic of 8.9 m, still stand.
He should be so happy with his gold. Maybe he wanted a more decisive margin? I was always a bad athlete growing up, but one thing I was decent at was long jumping. My small school organized a track and field event, I was not even top 10 in anything except the long jump where I was furthest until the last guy who slid quite far on landing. Our judging was such amateur hour that they counted the end of his slide rather than the contact point. I was pissed for a long time about that and this event brought that memory back from over 30 years ago.
@Olympics in the description is said that "Maykel Masso ... managed to hold on to third place after leaping to 8.21m on his second attempt.". Actually it was his first attempt.
So the gold medal is won at 8.41M, that’s massive half metre short of what was produced at Tokyo in 1991. This is despite of all modern equipment, training and diet. Respect for Carl Lewis and Mike Powell. They were real legends.
Yes respect to Lewis and powell but 8.41 is not easy it's very difficult. They have also worked very hard for this everyday practice even with modern equipment its very hard to control diet and work so u can't just compare it's was half meter less .
