    The 2019 Ram 1500 is, an interesting vehicle: on the one hand it's far too big to be a daily driver in the city, inconvenient for the urban environment for obvious reasons. And yet, it's got a host of really smart storage and convenience solutions, it's super comfortable, and offers more tech for the money than many German luxury cars. Great if you need a truck, but any truck is too much truck if you don't.
    FCA North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas.

I think he's more commenting on how big it feels in the roads he typically drives in cars. Also, living in Texas, I see trucks this size everywhere and most are only used for is trips to walmart and school pickup. (Tho I do love this new RAM)

    • @rickc2102
      @rickc2102 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a Subaru, whose adaptive cruise control uses stereo optical sensors, so it works great in everything but the hardest rains, a condition in which you shouldn't be using cruise, anyway.

    • @Phos9
      @Phos9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d kind of expect the system to be able to fall back on its own, possibly after having the driver hit accept that radar cruise is unavailable rather than having its own control.

    This is a great review. One thing I will say about the duplicate cruise control systems in the truck. I have a 2019 grand cherokee and live in New England. During the winter, being able to cruise without the radar is really convenient. Often the radar sensor will be dirty from road salt and simply not work for about 5 months out of the year.

    I have one, also a Limited 4x4 without the Ramboxes. So far, it's my favorite vehicle out of all the ones I've owned. My only gripe is the gas mileage SUCKS, but I didn't buy it for the EPA. Roadtrip car for a family of 5, specifically lots of ski trips to Mammoth and UT! Drives better than the Mercedes SUVs we've had in the past with the exception of maybe the GL. Not as quick as our X5, but it's also not as claustrophobic with soooo much room. I added a Tonneau cover and that helps in hauling our ski/snowboard/travel bags with no worries about rain or snow.

    One issue with the mid-size segment is that they really approach the length of a half ton truck. They are narrower and have a lower height overall sure, but they aren't much easier to find parking spaces for.

    Something that I didn’t quite understand for a while: why leaf springs ride harsher. Simple version is that a leaf spring is very progressive, that is is gets even harder as it’s compressed, and it snaps back very harshly after a jounce.

    Does this ride any better than a Raptor? Got a 2018 titan and looking for the next ride...

    • @ryanjohnson1265
      @ryanjohnson1265 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      torment12345 bro I have a Raptor, and I can tell you after having 2 RAM 1500s, an F-150, and a Hummer H-3, the Raptor is the most comfortable out of all of them, and the MOST fun to drive!!! It takes a few days to get used to the extra width, but it comes pretty quickly and it drives more like a sports car than a truck once you get adapted to it. It’s an absolute riot to own, and it ends up being whatever you want it to be depending on your mood. If you are feeling froggy, it’s a blast to hot rod around and will keep a smile on your face from point A to B. Maybe you get in, and just want to have a relaxing and quiet trip to wherever you are headed? Well hop in to the best truck seats on the market, and enjoy your super smooth ride in a ridiculously quiet cabin. I was skeptical that a truck to could be that big, have the tires it has without the usual associated road noise, and provide the ride quality I was used to with both my RAM Laramies. Within 2 minutes of my test drive in the Raptor, I knew I was taking it home and really could honestly not be happier with it. Money very very well spent. My wife, who is about 5’5” and maybe 120lbs soaking wet and looks absolutely hilarious behind the wheel of such a large vehicle, loves driving it so much that she wants to end her 10+ year mid-size suv streak and wants a Raptor for herself. So I’m guessing that within a week or two, I won’t have to share mine with her anymore 😂😂😂😂
      Bottom line, get the Raptor and don’t look back!!

    I was really skeptical on the looks of the 2019's, but I checked out a Sport trim with the body colored bumpers, grille, and chrome deleted, and I was won over. • @Leightspeed_

      As a MOPAR guy, I can inform you that the I6 is likely a HEMI replacement (And Turbo'd), not replacing the V6.

    This was a great review. My father is in the process of purchasing a Laramie Longhorn because you get more bang for you buck and has practically all of the features that the limited has. Also, with the brown leather seats, harmon kardon sound-system, and gold-tone interior trim, stylistically it is a much more appealing vehicle. I feel that the limited is for someone who has money to throw away for no particular reason. I don't think the Limited has any features that the Longhorn doesn't bessides being styled just a little bit differently.

      Just got it home and couldn't be more impressed with it so far. It didn't seem that big until I parked it in my driveway next to the wife's Explorer. It's pretty big. Doesn't ride big though. The main thing is that everything is super intuitive with the panel. It is the first system where everything so far just makes sense and more importantly it is fast. Half the time I'm ready put my fist through that damn Sync system in the wife's car.

    On the note of radar cruise - as others have mentioned it doesn't work with snow/ice covering the sensor. But there is also another instance where I'd prefer regular cruise, my Golf R has radar cruise, and sometimes it jams on the brakes far too hard when someone goes infront of you, which may only be temporary if changing lanes, so in that situation, regular cruise would be better. In addition, and at least on my car, radar cruise uses the rear brakes to slow down, and the service interval is significantly decreased, I'd honestly use regular cruise almost all the time if I had the option.

      Dallas infrastructure and its population are a lot more spread out than the old port cities. Plus it's in Texas.

    Seriously the end of this. New vehicle prices have gotten out of hand. That's not even a 3500.

      No one buys a truck at msrp...my 19 ram 1500 was 52k and I got it for 42k. Still a shitload of money but better than full price

      UPstater5.9 apparently a bunch of fucking idiots are. I got laughed at for asking for a rebate on a Duramax back in like 2011. I was 18 came into a little money. $55k truck was $75k after their added bs options. 19% financing with $35,000 down. Was shooting for $35-40k out the door. They thought I didn’t know better. Bought a used f250 instead. My bro in law got his 2011 Cummins down to $36,000 out the door fully loaded so I’ve seen it done.

    'the knob right next to the steering wheel' does make alot of sense if you're a pickup owner in a city ;)

    I couldn't agree more with your comment at the end. Why do mid-sized trucks get the bargain basement parts? A Colorado/Canyon/Tacoma/Ranger would be a great fit for a lot of people if they actually were a nice place to be on the interior.

    Living where I live the the part of this video that shocked me the most is the horn honking. I forget in major cities there's zero consequences. However, I promise you there's rural areas where they're about to get out, and you will have a problem. Not saying, that's the right way just I forget it's a thing that people deal with regularly without incident.

    Surround sound camera.... lol. Give it a few years and Musk will probably patent a sound camera.
    But in all seriousness, these are boss. I'm grabbing a Ram Classic (last gen body style still bring sold), however. The 2019 Ram Classic Express can be had with the 5.7, 8 speed, 392 gears with a LSD, 2wd, and regular cab in a bitchin set of sporty colors. I just ordered the last 19 with 4wd in ignition orange and the 8 4 uconnrct navi system. Pretty much the last gen limited without leather seats. So glad to see sport trucks return thwt aren't off-road Baja ready. I'm an enthusiast commuter, not a weekend canyon crawler.

    Love this truck. I have a 2016 Long Horn and its great. I drive a ton (35-40K/yr) and its a nice place to spend time. I complain about 2 things...one - its humongous and tough to park in any metropolis, two - thing eats brakes. And they're expensive to replace. But its a great truck and very comfortable. Good review Matt!
