I want to see how it does against his brother Euron The Croweye's Valyrian steel plate armor! A GRRM redo of the Norse legend of Black Alviss where two Dwarven smiths compete in a challenge where one creates a sword to destroy a shield the other creates!
One theory I had with the burning of King's Landing is wildfire by Aegon. When Aegon takes kings landing, Jon Connington's grayscale starts to infect the city at the same time Daenerys marches on King's Landing. So when she starts the siege, Aegon and most of his army is gone (left before the battle due to grayscale outbreak), but when Daenerys breaches the wall Jon Connington would light off the wildfire burning King's Landing and some of Daenerys's army. And Daenerys would be blamed for it.
Unlikely, most diseases come from pathogenic organisms which are not heat resistant, that is the reason why during a pandemic there are Countries where every corpse must be incinerated to minimize the spread of the disease. It is a largely known practice and done since the Plague in the Middle Ages, it is possible that GRRM knows that.
i was thinking that Dany would try and burn (f)aegon and in doing so would accidentally combust the whole city with the hidden wildfire though your theory is extremely interesting as well
I think the secret to making Valyrian steel is forging regular steel with dragon fire. The dragon fire magically makes the steel lighter stronger and sharper. Which brings me to the theory that the Iron Throne is made of Valyrian Steel. All of those swords were bathed repeatedly with dragon fire and even though the throne is hundreds of years old the edges are still sharp. How many times has it been mentioned in ASOIAF that a king or queen cuts themself on the throne? Regular steel would have gone dull by now just sitting there but Valyrian steel would have held it’s edge. I guess what I’m getting at is if the people of Westeros get their heads out of their asses they can equip an army with Valyrian steel to fight the others when winter comes. That would be sick af!
If dragon fire is responsible for the creation of Valyrian steel, the Iron Throne would only have a thin coating with the properties of Valyrian steel. This would also explain the many foldings of Valyrian blades.
I always thought it made sense that dragon fire was used in the pattern welding process like the dragon breathes fire on the steel between folding instead of it being put back into the forge to reheat or dragon fire was used in the tempering process after the steel was quenched or maybe dragon fire was needed to light the forges the Valyrian smiths used
Seems to me that Valyrian steel is steel forged and tempered in dragon fire, with obsidian put into it as an intentional impurity, like how Damascus steel was intentionally impure so that it would develop nanotubules in the blade and make it lighter and stronger. This would explain why it can kill walkers or wights, would explain why it’s sharper(heating up steel doesn’t necessarily make it sharper, but adding in the sharpest material we really know of would) and then the steel and obsidian kind of merge taking on properties of one another. This seems the most likely explanation. Damascus steel with obsidian instead of wood impurities, and it has to be treated with dragon fire to melt the obsidian and steel together. Blood(from a dragon or from a Targaryen or some other magical blood) is likely used as a binding agent between the obsidian and steel, or to cool the blade after tempering. It is also possible that dragon bone is integrated into the blade like or instead of the obsidian. What do you guys think?
Problem with that idea is that would make Valyrian steel pretty easy to make, which seems inconsistent with the rest of the story. If dragon fire is all that's required to make Valyrian steel, why would the Targaryens only have a handful of Valyrian steel objects? Even if they lost the knowledge to make it, it makes no sense even minor dragonlords would have so little VS if dragon fire is all that's required. Additionally, it's said that Euron's VS armor would have cost a kingdom even in the days of the Valyrian Freehold, so it cannot be that easy to manufacture.
As soon as you said Blackfyre is currently in Storm’s End I thought of Preston Jacobs saying “I can’t imagine why blackfyre would be there” in that exact Glidus video, so you can imagine my delight at the reference (Very Delighted).
I hope it ends up with young griff, it will be great for him to conquer king landing and be crowned with all the symbols of the king to fulfil Vary's dream of creating something out of nothing using symbols of power. Long live Aegon!
@@johnpotts8308 Grey scale can be transmitted through touch or objects an infected person directly touched. I once read a version of the Night-Lamp-Theory that Stannis will use Lightbringer to signal to his troops to fire catapults at the Freys as they cross the frozen lake. It would make for quite the parallel if Aegon rode out onto the Battle of Steel with Blackfyre at the same time that Stannis goes into the the Battle of Ice with his Valyrien steel sword.
I love that idea! I've thought about making a video about the Night Lamp for quite a while now, it's one of my favorite theories and there aren't really any videos dedicated to explaining it.
There is so much symbolism in various swords throughout the series. I've seen theories that Jon will be the Ptwp wielding LongClaw, Dawn, or Blackfyre. While I would love to see these swords have bigger roles, and others like Lady Forlorn and Dark Sister, I think George lays these seeds associated with classical heroes and intentionally avoids them. Either way this was a great video, keep it up!
A different theory that I've heard is that the Blackfyre which was invited to join the Great Council which would eventually select Aegon V "The Unlikely", had brought Blackfyre with him as a symbol of legitimacy to use at the council, but when Bloodraven attacked him at the docks, had to quickly pass the sword off to someone who hid it in Kings Landing somewhere, potentially Rhaenys' Hill or Visenya's Hill as there's plenty of secret tunnels and caves in both. Though honestly whilst the other one has an air of mysticism around it, it doesn't make as much sense as Illyrio having the sword. Especially if you believe the theory that Illyrio married the last female Blackfyre and that their kid is fAegon and that he promised her that he'd put their child on the throne of Westeros. So most likely the sword is in Storm's End waiting to be handed to Aegon VI.
One thing that no one considers is that Bittersteel was captured in third Blackfyre rebellion and was taken to the wall and Haegon Blackfyre was killed, following that Daemon III went back to Westeros and was killed. You have to assume that all of those men left the sword behind in Essos during the third and fourth rebellion or that someone managed to smuggle it back to Essos, possibly two times. I don't have solid evidence for where it is but people really over assume that Illyerio has it just because he mentioned the Balckfyres and the Golden Company.
I could see Illyria having it and planned to give it to Young Griff when he turned west after marrying Dany but that didn’t happen so maybe he’ll send it over. I could see Young Griff getting the sword and using in a battle for kings landing.
One point to remember that whether Blackfyre or Targaryen young Griff has Valyrian blood and one of the dragons may bond to him which along with having Blackfyre and the support of the Golden Company would give that faction an almost unassailable claim to the throne. The Golden Company will also after long service of battles in the East will have experience of dealing with Dothraki(it has exiled Dothraki members)for example having war elephants which terrify horses by their presence
This was great. Loved the references to others and their theories and the fleshing out of your own thoughts around that. The HOTD was a GREAT call out. 🔥 (Dark Sister is with Bloodraven in his cave…)
I know we aren't supposed to look to the show for theories but is it possible that Joncon knows Cersei will blow up the Sept (with Margery inside) through Varys and that's why he plans to meet the Tyrells in open combat, to convince them to march against Cersei for killing one of the Tyrell's most powerful and important members
Great stuff, as usual! I too watched that Glimbo video you mention way too many times and I could basically hear that Alt Schwift imposter's voice in my head "Blackfyre is in Storm's End?" - cue disbelief. Then as much as now I didn't see what was so strange about that - good on you for taking action and finally developing this subdezvoltate theory. Also, make a video about Darksister pls! That's my drakthyr's name and it was shocking how few people (nerds) had ever heard about it.
I have a different theory about this Second Dance of Dragons. I think we’re not going to get a showdown between (f)Aegon and Dany-I find it far more thematically appropriate if Jon Con’s greyscale causes a plague that kills his surrogate son. As Dany’s army approaches and Young Griff breaths his last, Jon Con in his grief- and disease-addled madness causes the caches of wildfire to go off, a horrifying funeral pyre for his beloved King.
I think people are off on regards to the second dance remember Gourge said it doesn't mean danys invasion which implies she likely isn't even involved and remember she and faegon are not the only targaryens Jon will be revealed to be one himself and if anything hes more likely to fight faegon then dany is .
I wish Blackfyre is with Aegon/Faegon and he is a Blackfyre, Dark Sister in the north with Bloodraven goes to Jon and the prophecy dagger ends up with Dany, then the 3 of them fullfill the prophecy and finally unite the Targaryens and Blackfyres, you get a dragon and you get a dragon, Valar Morghulis, Valar Dohaeris, Daemon The Rogue Prince smiling up at them from hell!!
In fact the whole Dance of the Dragons seems like a great parallel to the main series, there are a lot of similarities including characters, plotlines, betrayals, etc.
Excellent video, Quinn! It would definitely be a cool reminder of that excellent line from Otto in HOTD if Faegon manages to get Aegon the Conqueror's crown. One thing I hope that would happen as well is that whatever happens to Faegon in Winds, I hope somehow Dany gets Blackfyre. It would be cool to have an actual, true Targaryen wield that legendary sword again after 100 years of it being lost. It probably won't happen, but a fan can dream lol! :)
Hey, lovvvvvvve the Blackfyre in Storms End theory! Also, Ariane giving F-Aegon the missing crown via Prince Dad.. love it! I just realized, f is the sixth letter! For the Sixth Aegon! Okay, digression aside, the crown... especially if Quentyn's escort report to Dad that Danny laughed "in scorn" at him, so Dorne throws in with Golden Co.! I love the implications, but I want Aegon and Dany to make peace. Who knows, maybe prince that was promised could fall to Y Griff. . . I didn't explain that well.
Blackfyre being in Storm's End because it was recently brought there is plausible. But it definetly wasn't stashed inside there. The logistics therof make no sense
If the Martell's had Aegon's crown, would they not of given it to Daeron the Good when he married Mariah Martell or sometime after to counter Daemon having the sword Blackfyre? It's possibly it was not found until long after or in the hands of Blackfyre supporters like the Yronwoods perhaps.
Could you get into the possible battles in twow if you haven't already (new to the channel) like the battle of steel and the outcomes that we may see for the battles of ice and blood. Thank you and great video
Fun Detail: When Daeron I goes to Dorne to try and conquer it he dies with the sword and the crown. However, the family only retries Blackfyre, but not the crown. Where is the crown?

Daemon Blackfyre should have been the rightful king because his mother was the rightful queen whose throne was usurped from her by her uncle (Aegon the Uhworthy's father) Viserys II. Of course, Viserys and Aegon being illuminate rulers means that Aegon should not have been able to legitimize Daemon, but I suspect Daena the Defiant would have legitimized him if she had been properly recognized as the ruling queen.

My personal belief has always been. Danny will have the dragons, Aegon will have the crown (from dorne) and Jon has Blackfyre (Longclaw is Blackfyre). The sword of legitimacy being accidentally returned to the rightful heir.
...how would that make sense? The Mormonts have owned Longclaw for five centuries. Are you trying to claim the real longclaw is somewhere hidden? If so, why not hide Blackfyre? We're told it's extremly easily recognizable. Which also would mean at least someone would have realized Mormont lugging about such a kingly artifact. And why even would it be at the Wall? Last we know, it was with the Golden Company. How would it wind up at the Wall? Did the Golden Company lose it during one of the rebellions and for some reason the sword wasn't brought to the current Targaryen king but instead up to the Wall because a Targaryen might wind up exiled up there? That's overly goofy.
@@bierwolf8360 I get it sounds a bit out there, this video explains it well th-cam.com/video/al7Hf5wotpo/w-d-xo.html. The crucks of it is that the Jeor is our only explanation for Longclaws history in the books, why does a house as poor and frankly irrelevant even have one to begin with (when you look at other known families they are rich, powerful or storied) and Blackfyre "even sheathed could be mistaken for no other" is true unless you change the pommel (which is exactly what was done when Jon first got it).
@@bruceswayn9628 dude, that's just plain wrong. Archmaester Thurgood's Inventories lists 227 Valyrian steel swords in Westeros. We don't know when the book is from, but Tyrion references it and suggests there are probably around 200 left. That's quite a few. And not everyone of those can be owned by a great house (especially since only three of the great(est) houses have been known to wield any (Targs, Starks and Lannisters) while the rest haven't). The impoverished Corbrays have one, the Harlaws and Drumms both have one, the goddamn Roxtons had one.
@@bierwolf8360 This is why is said "rich, powerful or storied". And yes it's not impossible but just to counter on the examples you gave. Harlaw and Drumm are Ironborn so it's reasonable to assume they stole there's from someone else (like the common belief Red Rain was originally house Rayne's), Corbrays are poor in the current time of the story but their house dates back to the Andal invasion and has has great heros. Finally, Roxtons are an odd one but they are a family from the Reach and I think any house (even minor ones) from the Reach or Westerlands could be given the benefit of the doubt that at some point in there histories they had enough wealth to acquire one.
I've always believed Aegon already has the conqueror's crown. It's said that he waers three large square cut rubies, which to me always pointed to depictions of the conqueror's circlet, which contains square cut rubies of an unknown amount.
Aegon is not knighted yet? Jon Con will knight him with Blackfyre after a decisive battle in front a large "audience", or even at the foot of the throne after he takes the Red Keep, and then give him the sword?
I'm confused when you say Blackfyre is "in Storm's end held by Aegon", when Aegon isn't in Storm's End, he's in Griffin's Roost at the end of Dance, planning to take Storm's End. Did you mean to say Griffin's Roost? I'm not familiar with the spoiled Winds chapters.
I did not, as referenced in the video, the officially released Winds Arianne sample chapters give us updates on Aegon’s progress since the end of Dance.
I swear, I thought I heard somewhere about one of the Blackfyres leaving their eponymous sword behind before making their claim at the Great Council that crowed Egg. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
See this all aligns with what I believe is going to happen. Much of what the show depicts is going to happen. Dany will go mad, Jon will end up killing her. The North will become its own kingdom with Sansa as queen, Arya will sail west and Jon will go North in exile. However it will be Young Griff who eventually ascends the crown, not Bran, reviving House Targaryen and ruling the six kingdoms.
I could b wrong but I thought the last known holder of blackfyre was Brendyn rivers. Could b dark sister ig but I was pretty sure he took blackfyre to the wall with him
I think valyrian steel is made from obsidian/dragonglass and iron with the obsidian acting as the carbon inpurity instead for regular steel. Maybe because obsidian is famously brittle it was required to layer it with less brittle steel. Nothing is quite sharp like valyrian steel and obsidian can fracture down to 500 times sharper than steel

My own Fanfic idea is that Barristan Selmy took Blackfyre from Maelys The Monstrous' corpse and secretly gave it to his king Jaeharys II (Aerys' father). The smart Jaeharys was no warrior and knew his son Aerys(the future Mad King, who was already an adult and father)was of questionable virtue. So he kept it hidden. Adhering to the lesson his father Aegon V (The Unlikely, Egg) learned from Maekar I, "The king is not the sword nor the sword a kingdom", Jaeharys had the blade hidden away and swore Barristan to secrecy. Barristan was ordered not to give the blade to anyone save one who proved worthy of it. After Jaeharys' all too soon death, Barristan watched Aerys' increasing madness and knew his first king had been wise. Blackfyre in The Mad King's hands would have been even more dishonored than all the generations it was wielded by the Blackfyres. A symbol of his misrule if not an actual tool. Barristan knew the blade that the Golden Company paraded around was a false Blackfyre, Valyrian steel or not. And he had been assured by Maester Aemon, whom Jaeharys had him deliver the real Blackfyre to, that it was entombed beyond The Wall. Alongside its Dark Sister with Bloodraven.
Random idea: We will see 'Blackfyre', but it'll be a fake Blackfyre. About halfway through the series, Tywin hires a wellknown Essosi blacksmith from Volantis to come to King's Landing and reforge Ice. He ends up making two swords out of Ice: Widow's Wail and Oathkeeper. A point is made saying that the magic of making new Valyrian steel is lost, but they can reforge existing steel, if you know the right methods. My thought is that Illyrio pays the same smith, or another one, to reforge a new Blackfyre out of some steel he's acquired. He even gets the look down based on descriptions provided, though I'd bet some slight difference exists that some nerdy character like Tyrion notices (Hey, didn't Blackfyre have a Ruby in the pommel? This is surely a Garnet, etc.....)

I actually think Aegon is the real deal and will win the throne for a time, maybe die shorty after or something. Jon being Aegon the seventh would be super significant especially if he ends up with blackfyre
Winds of winter may give the answers. Every Blackfyre was defeated by targaryns. Daenerys and Jon Snow the real targaryns will join and defeated the others. Bloodraven aka three eyed raven is still watching the kingdom with his Dark Sister. He will give it to Dany . Dance of the dragons was a fight between Blackfyre and Dark Sister.

And then he dies of greyscale.

Lightbringer is explicitly not Valyrian steel.
Light bringer isn’t Valyrian steel still a cool idea though
There is so much symbolism in various swords throughout the series. I've seen theories that Jon will be the Ptwp wielding LongClaw, Dawn, or Blackfyre. While I would love to see these swords have bigger roles, and others like Lady Forlorn and Dark Sister, I think George lays these seeds associated with classical heroes and intentionally avoids them. Either way this was a great video, keep it up!
4:25 wasn’t it the male line that was extinct? So the idea is the Idea is that Young Grift is the son of a daughter of a Blackfyre
@@Yannis1aPossibly even a descendant of Bittersteel and Calla.
Thank you for giving Shift his shout out🙏🏽 all you great content creators will carry on this dream when Martin goes❤️
Bro…Glidus too!? pleasee all 3 of you guys do a stream together!🙏🏽
My apologies *Schwift* 😂
I'm quite sure illyrio has it, or probably young Griff(his son) by now
I could see Illyria having it and planned to give it to Young Griff when he turned west after marrying Dany but that didn’t happen so maybe he’ll send it over.
Oh yes, have been waiting for that!
She has to slay him though
@@ashleycoburn9770
Slay, or indirectly be the cause of death of?
Presumably all this happens while besieging King’s Landing.
You’re quickly becoming one of my favorite ice and fire TH-camrs . Keep it up man!
Very informative and great pacing, ill be a new sub brother
Excellent video, Quinn! It would definitely be a cool reminder of that excellent line from Otto in HOTD if Faegon manages to get Aegon the Conqueror's crown. One thing I hope that would happen as well is that whatever happens to Faegon in Winds, I hope somehow Dany gets Blackfyre. It would be cool to have an actual, true Targaryen wield that legendary sword again after 100 years of it being lost. It probably won't happen, but a fan can dream lol! :)
would love a Dark Sister video from you. actually any video would be great. go crazy dude
It is absolutely amazing that Glimbo's crackpot video resulted in this fantastic video.

0:03 Qohor's smiths, at least some of them, still know how to make and manipulate Valyrian steel. Tywin calls some to King's Landing to reforge Ice into Widow's Wail and Oathkeeper.
That’s not production though, that’s reforging, I’d imagine he meant the actual creation of new steel, as he later mentions literally ten seconds in the video
If the Martells had Daeron's crown surely it would have been given along with Elia or one of the much earlier Targaryen-Martell marriages, no?
My thought is that they might’ve been saving it for Rhaegar’s coronation, given that Aerys was pretty obviously crazy and awful.

I did not, as referenced in the video, the officially released Winds Arianne sample chapters give us updates on Aegon’s progress since the end of Dance.

@4:25 you say that Illyrio said that the Blackfyre line is only extinct in the female line. But it is actually the male line that is extinct
When FAegon gets to the throne, Dany crosses the sea. I'm sure stannis will shatter his teeth
Though I like Blackfyre, I prefer Dark Sister because it would be more versatile and better in combat.
Who had Blackfyre in the Dance of the Dragons?
