This movie was a roller coaster that I didn’t want to get off of! Sad, Crazy, Cuckoo, Funny, and I think what should be the expectation for horror. Barbarian really opened the door to chaotic, messy, yet incredibly ominous feeling movies and I hope we never stop getting them.
I saw this a couple of days ago. Your review is pretty spot on for what I thought about the film, Austin - I found it a little too off-kilter and unclear for its own good, at points, but there is real quality to much of the film-making and some genuine scares, plus you have to give credit for the originality. I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, but it's still a refreshing watch.
Probably died being left in the car again.😢 when they let him out he's like oh thank you I can breathe again. Nice that it's Alma that rescued him in that sense.
absolutely my favorite movie of the year. i've seen it four times in theatres already. i think it's SUCH a breath of fresh air for the horror genre, incredibly creative, and hunter schafer is mesmerizing as a final girl. and unlike a lot of people are saying, i don't think the plot was horrifically confusing -- i think people are so used to having everything spelled out for them explicitly about five times in a row that they've stopped paying attention to what's actually on screen. anyway, great movie
I really wasn’t confused by this movie and didn’t think it was that crazy. I thought it progressed like any other horror movie. I felt like the gist of the story was there. My main question was about how the young sister came to be. I can’t tell if dad knew though I feel like he did. But regardless, I don’t need those answers. I think it’s implied.
It seems like people are treating it as crazy because there was a fantastical element that was unusual, aka not a traditional threat like a vampire or a werewolf
I really enjoyed the vibe and the performance of Hunter Schafer and Jan Bludhart. All the technical details were a bit much - had to check the plot summary to figure that out. The emotional core of Gretchen + Alma is also really strong. I'd give it like a 7/10
I couldn’t help but think of the Brian DePalma movie “Dressed to Kill” and how the killer in that movie (Michael Caine when trans) looked a lot like the “monster” in this movie - the trench coat and glasses. I’d love to ask the director if that’s what he was shooting for.
Loved the style and performances but the plot left way to many things unanswered. I like these kinds of horror films but i have so many questions. I was really let down
The other way to oillto increase longevity besides the house of love for the masses ,(the frog), is the house of sthep which is also the house of meditation. Dr Pillai has incorporated most of jhis teachings and initiations (including that for most of his mantras, into his meditational practices ,(closing your eyes and doing visualizations). But this house is both a neutral and difficult house. Everybody needs sleep and meditation but not everybody get the full benefit put of it. Some of us can have bad things creeping into our visualizations or have nightmares. Hence meditations must be guided by a teacher when you are onto a new meditation practice and we also have a sleep doctor in western medicine. This house also governs nature which represents the vicidditufes if life. Ig you have the naturte's energy infused into you, most notably The Holy Spirit (Dr Pillai often say for The Holy Spirit technique you do not have to do anything, just feel it's presenceaftrrhe gives you the initiation, and thank it every now and then. This house rules the unconscious.
@@AustinBurke I'm pretty easy. I thought the bicycle chase scene and the bookshelf scenes were very well done. The overall concept of this movie, hmmm 🤔 lol.
This movie was scary, weird, funny and just plain odd. But, it was awesome and it's worth rewatching to be honest. There are clues and hints at the beginning that you can pick up on now
Dr Pillai said that the frog by saving the dying dragon fly contribute to its own longevity. In fact in Vedic Astrology, the house of marriage is intimately connected to the house of the masses. People who are married tend to have some feeling for the masses. Yet if the person's marriage kara is very strong, even a bigot can get married. On the 95her hand a married person can leave his wife for the masses. This happens when the house of masses is stronger than the house of marriage but the house of marriage is nevertheless quite strong. But since they9use of the masses is also the karma we do for the house of marriage, we can walk away from the marriage and get more involved with the masses like Buddha. All the the 55h house of love turns towards a life of ascetism rather than a householder life. Believe it or not an ascet98c lives longer. The frog which Dr Pillai shows us was a single.
This was nowhere near as good as Longlegs, Caveat, or Oddity...You wait for something special or really scary & you get none of that. I base a movie on whether or not I'd rewatch it...I won't rewatch this.
Longlegs was terrible. Anti Social agent who got her degree on Temu, Cage looked like he went to a 1 star plastic surgeon, camera angles majority of the time with nothing happening in the background. Most overhyped movie of the decade.
Longlegs was... *sigh* A great first act, a troublesome second act, an outright appalling third act. This film, however, was exactly what I wanted it to be, what I hoped it would be. Great film.
I’m really not understanding why people think this movie was good. The film lost me after the first 45 minutes. There was really nothing happening aside from the Cuckoo lady showing up in like 3 scenes and most of the scenes lasted what felt like 10 seconds. It wasn’t scary enough to keep me engaged. The only thing that kept me reengaged was the small gun fight at the end.

Barbarian 🔥
Wait till you witness THE SUBSTANCE, the climax will definitely f*** u up
@@abhiruproy8592Cant wait for The Substance 💯
This and long legs heavily involving the cuckoo bird in their story as a metaphor is awesome. And both releasing within a month! Loved both films
Yes! So wild

My one true gripe is there was no real conclusion I felt with her dad
I thought it was odd that we don’t see the ever dog again (that i can remember) after we first see it getting out of the car lol small thing but weird

Just saw this and definitely was confused at the end and on my score. Please make an ending explanation video lol I’m confused. Great review Austin!

Another fantastic video! Thank you!
This movie looks like it is all over the place.
Great review Austin . This movie worked for me despite the unanswered question
Next watch this week 👍🏽 Probably one of thee more unique and weird standouts this year so far🤘🏼 Breakdown Great again bro 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Appreciate it!
Cuckoo is cuckoo?? This is mind blowing 🤯
I wanted to title it that, but I was afraid it would mess up the search 😂

Y'all are bullshiting. This movie was atrocious.
Cuckoo (2024) is the scariest movie of 2024.
It isn't close.
I agree!
Just watched it and : what happened to the family dog?!

Austin please put Trap & Rebel Moon director's cut 1-2 in 2024 ranking on letterboxd too !!!!
I gave it a 6 maybe 6.5 out of 10. Some sleepy time parts lol but also had some cool creepy scenes.
