Fun fact, that "socialist" building is not really socialist haha, it was built before the war, by a famous German architect ;) although I must say I don't like it too and tbf it looks like a socialist building
I made my first real visit to Wrocław only a few years ago (I'm a Varsovian) and I was impressed. Many Poles are proud of the nation's failed historical uprisings against its enemies. But I'm the most proud of the post-ww2 rebuilding of cities like Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Opole, Olsztyn and other towns (and the post-ww1 rebuilding of Kalisz).
@@TravelwithMrJon On the other hand, I, as a resident of Krakow, visited Wroclaw two years ago and was very disappointed with more or less what you mentioned. The architecture seemed inconsistent to me, this large square building and blocks of flats near the center were irritating. On the other hand, I was once very positively surprised by Lublin, which I thought was a poorer city to the east, but has a beautiful, charming old town in the Krakow style (which seems to me to be such a typical Polish style).
It was expained to you the "socialist" building is not a "socialist" at all so I just want to add that it was designed by famous german architect Henrich Rump. The design represented popular in 1930's "modern" style in architecture and referred to architectural ideas of Max Berg (designed Centennial Hall in Wrocław) who was at that time holding a position of Main Architectural Advisor in Wrocław and was fascinated by New York and its skyscrappers. By the way the building itself was very controversial even for germans and they wanted to rebuild it in 1940, lower it and change the roof (steep intead of flat) but you now... war, and it is what it is...
Wow 😮 that just adds to the story of this interesting building to say the least with the locals not enthused either. Thank you for sharing this tidbit @dekar111
The color of the Wrocław Głowny railway station is consistent with the original color from 1903, i.e. "orange with ochre". The building is on the register of monuments and therefore the color remains the same as on the day of its opening.
Former German city of Breslau, former former Czech city of Vraclav 😉 Norman Davies wrote a good book about the multicultural history of the city, if interested.
Still - remember that over 1040 years ago Polish prince Mieszko I established here a settlement. Probably there was a small village before - which might be established by Czech rurel. This was truly multicultural city. It was never a 100% Polish, Czech or German.
1. Wrocław ? No more vlogs from Masuria ? That means you didn't visit the bunker of the Austrian painter 🤔 2. You don't like KFC either ? Like I said, you're left with only McDowell's 🤭 3. Wrocław used to be German, but before that it was Polish, and now it is Polish. It was also Czech. It was German for the shortest period. 4. 19:28 The one with the red cap looks like a cool dude. You could have asked him if he wanted to be friends ✌
@nonperson22 1. Sadly I had to retreat to the south en route to Krakow to fly back to USA. Trust me I didn’t want to leave and especially Wrocław which I avoided during my time in Krakow. I think it’s overrated which is why I read nothing on the city. 2. McDowells sounds wonderful. Moroccan McDonald’s is expensive 😞 3. Funny it was German the shortest but that’s would stood out for me. 4. I should have. Another missed opportunity. Thursday is the city you asked for… Bielsko

@nonperson22 teaching math in English. Mutual interest on both sides. Morocco is certainly not Poland. To think I was complaining about the heat in Poland :)
Building you mention "socialists" at the square comes from the same time as Empire State Building. Building you call as "church" is the town hall... 🙄You just talk much, guessing, maybe read simply wikipedia first?
Just out for a walk like always. I like to just walk. Not for every viewer and that’s fine. The heat had gotten to me by the time I arrived and I didn’t bother checking any facts as I walked to the hotel. @MysiaLusia this was the 15th vlog in less than two weeks. Anyway I am sure there is better Wrocław content for you to enjoy.
@psoras I think the heat had gotten the best of my by then. Running on fumes. Thankfully plenty of decent Wrocław content for you to watch on TH-cam with a short search.
@@TravelwithMrJon if I were there with you, I'd recommend entering a shopping mall (there's one on your way, Galeria Dominikańska) to cool down a bit, and maybe have some ice cream. Have fun wherever you are now, and be safe.
@psoras my hotel along the river had a beautiful air conditioner which I stayed under and recovered from. Yes, the mall and ice cream would have made sense too. Currently I am in Morocco as this was from three weeks ago.

lol So it's not a socialist building but feels like one. That's awesome. Thanks for the information on this fun fact

@benwars9524 should I say I liked Opole better than Wrocław? I would be proud too off all the rebuilding. It was a lot to overcome.

11:33 it is a townhall not a church...
If only I had bothered to look that up while walking in the heat and then filmed another take. At least you got my genuine impression @LauraArniman
