Thank you so much for this video. It is so helpful. Regarding 14:30, Harbor Freight's Pittsburgh 3 jaw puller worked smoothly for me (the largest of the 4 pc set- item 63760). I also ziptied the whole gear assembly together (like a belt) when I did it.
I have a jeep liberty two wheel drive, it shifts through five gears perfect but won't go into 6 th gear, just grinds, very good video, very good info, thanks
Thanks. Of course you will not know for sure till you get in there. But I would bet you will need the gear, slider and synchronizer at a minimum. And of course your front and rear seals.
Thanks for this. I too have a jeep jk 3.8 2010 rubi. Its manual gearbox is making a strange noise when coasting with the clutch pressed in. The gearbox is also quite noisy in a cluncky kind of way i can clearly hear the gears meshing. Also after driving and everything is hot the gear lever becomes stiff and it becomes harder/heavier to shift if it makes sense. It also almost feels like thers a bearing free spinning when holding the shifter after shifting into gear with the clutch in. By looking at this video i cant really see what could be the issue.
As with any noise I would have to hear it to be able to make a suggestion as to what it is. Having said that, These seem to have an issue with developing an imperfection on one of the input shaft teeth. It will cause a knocking type noise. As far as the feeling in the shifter goes. I think you are just feeling the gear train spinning on the forks.
If this is the one that I am thinking it is, it had a small imperfection on the input shaft gear. Not sure what caused it. Buffed the imperfection down and they said the noise was gone.
I just had my 05 TJ trans rebuilt. I have the BMS Sport Shifter. My shop guy did a REALLY great job and I am very happy with Him and my Jeep! Its old, I am old. Cruising the dirts roads exploring the moderate trails. As long as my pocketbook allows for. 😊
@@CurmudgeonTransmissionmy jeep also is having a rattle while in neutral and clutch pedal is released, the rattle goes away at the slightest press of the clutch pedal. It also doesn't show up at a cold start but after 10 or so minutes of driving. Would you suspect mine could be an imperfection like this or something else?
So mine is making a noise almost like a knocking sound at idle and when pushing clutch in it goes away. Already replaced throw out bearing and all of its other components. Put it all back together and it’s still making the noise. It makes the noise under load but if I let off gas it gets quiet. Should I be looking at the input shaft bearing next? Do you happen to have an email that I could shoot you a video of the noises I’m having?
Probably going to something with the bearing or input shaft. This one had a tiny imperfection on one tooth of the input shaft. You can send it on my Instagram. CurmudgeonTansmission.
@ What was the fix for this transmission in the video? My input shaft had play in it when I reinstalled the transmission when I push on the clutch pedal the noise goes away when it’s not depressed and or moving it makes noise I feel like my problem is the input shaft bearing retainer I replaced the clutch and throw out and pilot Resurface the flywheel any tips would be so appreciated

Were they hearing the thrust bearing in the clutch?

What are the plastic pieces inside the bell housing where the input shaft and countershaft bearing go. One is white and the other is black
Give me a time stamp in the video so I can make sure we are talking about the same thing.

Maybe it’s the shift fork and rail assembly?
I have the same year jeep that the transmission is completely siezed and believe it is stuck in 6th gear.
Sounds like it may have been run out of oil.
I have run into the same problem I believe it’s the input shaft bearing retainer 😢😢😢 F I hate cars lol
I have had a couple in here with that noise. Both have had a slight blemish on one of the teeth on the input shaft.
@ what’s been the fix? New tranny I just did my clutch and I’m having a pretty same noise when my foot’s off the clutch

Throw out bearing most likely
Was a small blemish on the input shaft.
