i have a problem with the same gearbox. after changing the oil it started kicking a lot, boxing and skipping gears, I changed the oil 2 more times and it got better, after installing new software the box started working but occasionally kicks a little, and now when it's cold 2 3 4 degrees the first 2 3 kilometers while I'm driving clearly until the car warms up, it switches later somewhere like 3000 revolutions. what could be the problem
What kind of oil did you put in it? Should be Mercon ULV. If you used anything else, it can give you issues like that.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Ravenol atf ulv d-m
@@MrExtremekoko Should be ok. Sometimes just changing the fluid can cause debris to circulate. These valve bodies on this unit are very sensitive to that, as they do not have springs behind the solenoid valves to help make them return to their resting position. So, the smallest things can make them hang up. May be what you have going on here. Maybe some driving will help. Also, these do not like to relearn the shifts with less than 1/4 tank of fuel. So, make sure you have at least that when resetting the adaptives and relearning it.
Is the 8f40 the code for the ford powershift transmission. Do you eventually know if the ford mondeo sw 2021 has it?
My book only goes up to 2007 on the Mondeo and it has the 5-Tronic transmission.
Than you for sharing your professionalism. This one is mounted in my car. However the oil coming out looks like Dexron IIE ..or am I mistaking? Different than the oil used in my transmission. Neither do i see the filter. Maybe the ones used in the US are differently equipped?
Uses Mercon ULV fluid. The shop that did it before had a generic full synthetic in it.
Gostei muito do vídeo. Meus parabéns. Esse 6t70 da GM
Thanks. The GM version is a 9T65E. Has more clutches and is a 9 speed. It is similar in setup to a 6T70. So, if you have done those you should be comfortable with this transmission.
What do you think about aisin eat8
Have not had any come in yet so I don't have an opinion yet.
@CurmudgeonTransmission
the filter in this transmission is not exchangeable without full transmission disassembly.
Would you do a flush of such a transmission if the filter can't be changed? Or is a simple oil change preferred?
I am not a fan of the flush. A lot of dealerships are not anymore either. They will void your warranty if they find out you did it. I would do a drain and fill regularly. Depending on how you drive, at least every 20-30k. Don't believe in the fill for life like the dealerships push now. It is not true. You can thank the EPA for that.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission I'm a careful driver, drive mostly on the highway, I wouldn't say the car had a hard life.
But I've just passed the 100.000km milestone. Is it still safe to start now with simple drain and fills?
@@dipling-at Hard to say. I would have to see the fluid. There does come a time it is better to just leave it alone. If it's really clean and doesn't smell burnt, maybe.
@@dipling-at why don't you drain and fill it twice? Drain will release about half of the oil. Fill it up, run it for a few (maybe few hundred km/miles) and then drain and fill again. Mathematically, you replace about 80% of the oil. One more drain and fill gets you close to 100%. This is what some shops recommend. And then you swing in with the 30ish tkm replacement cycle.
@@Michael-jf9dw I owe an update: I ended up flushing. Ford won't even consider changing the fluid in Europe (because it's lifetime filling, daaa - they simply won't do it, it never came to pricing), and the independent garages I contacted do/recommend only flushes.
The fluid was very dirty at 60.000 miles, a lot of clutch material, I ended up needing 18L of fresh fluid to get a clean fluid coming out of my transmission... and it solved my TCC engagement issue, the RPM variation almost vanished (5-20rpm, probably terrain dependant).
The catch: the independent shops use other fluids that are just "recommended" (manufacturer's words). Got Fuchs Titan 8400 ULV, same viscosity as Mercon ULV but most likely different additive composition. While the new ATF fixed my TCC slip, it kind of worsened the sport mode (high rev shifting seems to need more time below 50 mph) and I have a feeling it's not performing so great in cold conditions either.
I have about 6.000 miles with this fluid now, I'll purchase some 5L overpriced ATF from Ford and at 10.000 miles I'll do a drop and fill, hoping to make my transmission happier....
Very good work. How much is the F40 repair price?
Thanks Vašek
Thanks. I don't know. Depends on the damage and a lot of other factors. Usually very high as the parts are only available from the dealer right now.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission
Thank you for the reply. The oil was not changed until 180 tkm. When shifting into 2nd and 3rd gear, there is an unpleasant clunk, if necessary, it will shift into a higher gear. If it is possible, I would like to ask for a proposal for the price of the repair. I know that it can vary according to the actual condition after disassembly. But even so thank you Vasek
Hello i am looking for an overhaul kit 8F40 ...its the 8F35 the same? i cannot found the kit 8F40.. have you a link to buy this parts.. thanks.. you made a great Video..
Thanks. Yes, it's the same. Transtar or WIT. Links are in the description.
looks like the guy that initial had his hands on was working through a mirror..
Доброго времени суток! Это коробка 8f40?
Yes, it is.
Через сколько тысяч километров пробега она попала к вам на ремонт? Интересует ресурс коробки передач
I don't remember.
At how Mutch Miles you must Change the oil in this transmission?
Dealer say 150,000. I would do it every 30,000 or so personally.
Thanks for the answer ! I live in Germany and drive a mondeo with this gearbox... called many companies and asked for an oil change... they don't do it. they say it's a lifetime fill you don't need it or we don't have the right tool for it
@@lukasgarbowski20 just keep calling a looking. Just got mine oil changed dynamically
where can you buy the planets?

Oi boa tarde em qual carro esse câmbio Ford ou GM
They will not exchange even though they look similar.
Hey I noticed you don't soak your clutches I guess you don't have to huh just wondering
I get this comment more than any other it seems like. No I don't, never seen a difference between doing it and not.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission may be a myth
@@CurmudgeonTransmission do you think they get wet upon starting the vehicle and sitting in New Park I mean
@@theedge8659 I am pretty sure they do.
ok, to fast , I see the filter
You can really tell by looking at that thing that things are not built to last these days
Yeah, they figured out a long time ago they can make more money selling parts than cars.
Looks cheap
