Would have been great to keep, true go-kart like handling! You and your dad would have done it proud. I had a W Reg real billy basics spec for my first car and sold it to get a big Kia Ceed Estate for modernity, cheap tax and much more space and yes rust killed the KA two years after selling but it was in much worse shape to begin with
With hindsight, yes. Sounds very odd though, some bloke saying they have a commercial garage and a Ford collection, and then for it to suddenly essentially fall apart from rust in no time flat is suspicious. I almost wonder if it was used as a ringer or something. Even on the Ka, rust doesn't suddenly appear overnight and spread everywhere.
Oh I'd have kept this for sure. As you say finding a solid one is becoming really tricky and what a colour. This era of Ka remains the most surprising car I ever drove. I could not get over how well it handled, especially on twisty back roads. I was gobsmacked
I absolutely loved my 99 ford ka with the old 1.3 endura. Service and set the tappets every year and it was so reliable. I sold it to a pizza delivery guyvwho took it to over 160.000 miles before the rot killed it off. Cheap, nimble motoring.
@@JonCoupland just looking at the mot failure sheet it wasn't that bad, 2 areas of rust on the sills which to be honest could have been very small holes to fix and the rest was advising tyres and brake pipes which is no shock on a car it that age. I reckon the guy just wanted a cheap motor that was disposable when it needed and money spent on it. What a shame as I'm sure your dad could have easily sorted all the issues on it.
Hi Jon a great video I love that version of the Ka and the collection was up from base spec too! I have never seen the Ka in that green it really pops such a shame it couldnt join the fleet and what happened to it after being cared for all the best Daniel
Thanks Daniel. As you know I buy cars sometimes just for their colour and the green really caught my eye at the time. Big shame it was killed off. Can't win them all sadly
What a sad rale! Most people dunp on them, but for the past ten years I think they're the one to hang onto. Say a basic early one and a later Zetec. Just tuck it away in a vacuum sealed package! 🙂
What a shame it rapidly ended up being squashed! Condition and mileage wise, it deserved to be cherished as a rare survivor. Great colour too, although a divided opinion colour no doubt! But difficult to turn down £600 in 48 hours Jon, I would have done the same. Unfortunate the seller wasn’t a man of his word.
I didnt realise until recently what had actually happened to it - i was adamant it was in a dealership collection - very sad. If id have known ... id have kept it. BUT. These things happen - thanks for watching
I loved mine Jon. Simple, cheap motoring and handled nicely. I had mine from a few months old (a 53 plate at about 3000miles) through to 110k, and it was the rot that killed it (a notorious issue, as you say). Regular servicing was a must. I think the only mechanical issues I had was a faulty coil pack, and it seemed to crack suspension springs very easily on our lovely british roads. I even took it through France 😁. I do miss it actually!
Im learning that so many people have had relatively good experiences with them - which makes me happy but ad at the same time ... they are fast becoming rare on our roads after seemingly being everywhere!
Neighbour across the road is on her 3rd and newest - an 08, it's got the 'minilite' wheels and AC!This is starting showing the usual rot and the previous two died from same 😢.
I had 4 of these KAs, one major drawback with them is rust, rust and more rust as demonstrated by your super clean example. Once it takes hold it spreads like wildfire.☹️
I like the KA ... but I think you would have to of garaged it for sure ..... I'm not sure, Jon, but did they get hammerd with the road tax on emissions... which I think made them a lot less desirable, especially for the younger drivers who owned a lot of them 🤔
Nice colour, I’m not really a fan of Fords with that jelly mould stying. There’s a blue one around here that I see quite regularly a😊 Pity the buyer didn’t keep his word
They are fast becoming rare on the roads, now is the time to save a good early one. I'm gutted the buyer used it and killed it off ... But you can't win them all
As an aside, it is natural for you to call them a Kay-Ay. When talking over the radio, saying what sounds like "Ford Car" could mean any of dozens of different models. K.A. is short but clear. 🤓
Im surprised it wasn't battered to shit as they aren't easy to park, given you can't see where the extremities of it are with the weird shape. I had one on holidays and hated it. The engine sounded like it had gravel in it 🙄 I've had 5 green car's and they tend to be bought by people who mind their cars 🫡👍🇮🇪
Car number 11 then ... this Ford KA - What do you think? Should I have kept this one?

Yes i think so but you did good by selling it too, made you a nice little profit, shame the clown that bought it from you trashed it.
My wife has one of these (well the later model), I love driving it. Soooo much fun, reminds me of original Mini's. Like a little Go-Kart.
Ah brilliant. Was great fun to drive 😄
They were a good car for first time drivers 😊
Yes I agree 👍
I just sold on my Ka 2 to fund the purchase of something I’ve wanted for a long time. They are such fun cars to drive.
Looking forward to seeing what you have bought in its place
Lovely colour. Iv one in my watch list now, just because of the rarity
Now is the time to buy a good one I feel!
Oh I'd have kept this for sure. As you say finding a solid one is becoming really tricky and what a colour. This era of Ka remains the most surprising car I ever drove. I could not get over how well it handled, especially on twisty back roads. I was gobsmacked
I couldnt turn down doubling my money in a few days and at the time i had nowhere to keep it safe - shame it was used and hammered and is now gone
These look so much better with painted bumpers compared to most of them having the black plastic ones.
I agree
My wife had one of these years ago. Fantastic handling but a truly asthmatic uninspiring engine! Tin worm eventually did for it!
Very sad but seems like that's what's killing all of them

I had mixed views on them until recently - i agree they are now an underrated little car and good ones should now be being saved

super little motors Jon
Ive not heard a bad word recently about them :) - which makes me happy

I agree they get a bad reputation. Now is the time to save a good one
God morning Jon not my type of car, but I love the videos
This series is going to be hit and miss with some of the cars for people but as you say - hopefully something for everyone!

Jon , Hill top motor village, Bradford, has a 2012 Proton with 58 thousand miles on the clock
Thanks Daniel - ive just had a look - the Gen2 isnt one im after right now

@JonCoupland wet, salty winters didn’t do these any favours that’s for sure

Sad but cool she's still keeping hers going
I always wonder what the rot is underneath the bumpers and wheel arches
Difficult to show on videos sometimes BUT Dad did give it a looking at at declared it 'solid!'
I had 4 of these KAs, one major drawback with them is rust, rust and more rust as demonstrated by your super clean example. Once it takes hold it spreads like wildfire.☹️
Very sad and a shame they werent treated better from new :(
miss seen them looked ok simple motoring i would of kept if i had the space
Now is the time to buy a good one I think 😁
@@JonCoupland i have mk1 focus millennium as my summer car to keep
How many cars do you currently have in your collection?
23
I wish I hadn't traded it in for a fiesta
Ah thats a shame :(
Kermit the Ka. I call them the Ka (Kah)
I called it Kermit 🤣
I like the KA ... but I think you would have to of garaged it for sure ..... I'm not sure, Jon, but did they get hammerd with the road tax on emissions... which I think made them a lot less desirable, especially for the younger drivers who owned a lot of them 🤔
Yes I agree and sadly I couldn't garage it 😭
Sad end to a car that deserved better.
I totally agree - i was devastated :(
It's a good little car mechanically, but sadly a real rotbox. No rust protection at all.
Which is a big shame :(

Yes it was an unusual view from the drivers seat! There are actually 2 more green cars to come on the countdown!
