You are very welcome! Thank you for the kind words :) Good luck with your new chameleon once they arrive. A pothos plant is my personal favorite vine plant for a chameleon enclosure. Chameleons can climb very steep, even straight up and down.
Neptune the Chameleon Update! We got him today. Around 4 months old, he is surprisingly friendly. He climbed on my head and arm all by himself. It was so hot today in England, the ambient was 27c but he seemed ok. Only thing is he won’t stop climbing on the screen and ceiling, he keeps falling and doing it again. I caught him lots and he is still in good shape (luckily).
Hiii!! I love you videos by the way they have been great for me. I did recently lose my Chameleon because of egg bound while we thought it was a male. That could be a very amazing video to make if anyone else needs it. I could give you some information if you want!! Keep making amazing and helpful videos!
Thank you for the kind words. Sorry to hear about your chameleon :( I do have a video about how to sex a veiled chameleon (will be making a panther one eventually) to help people correctly know the sex of their chameleons. I also made sure to mention egg laying in females and pointed to some good resources. I hope that video can help save some chameleon lives. But if someone takes the word of someone else and doesn’t double check they know what they’re talking about, then you end up with incorrectly sexed chameleons :/
Excellent video!! But speaking of enclosures, would you consider making a video on how to thoroughly clean their enclosures? I’ve had my veiled for about half a week and I’m sure I’ll have to wash things soon
Glad you liked it! I have a video on how to spot clean an enclosure: th-cam.com/video/fpARlO7wqIA/w-d-xo.html This is what most keepers do to maintain their enclosures. Frequent deep cleans are not usually recommended since it usually involves moving the chameleon and rearranging their enclosures which can cause them stress. You'd definitely want to do a deep clean, if you bought a used enclosure, are using it for a different chameleon, or your chameleon gets certain kinds of parasites.
I brought my chameleon home yesterday! I named him Comet (cause his cuteness is a planet killer hehe) and got my golden pothos in my enclosure and completely spaced and didn't sanitize the leaves! And of course THAT'S the plant he's hiding in now 🤦♀️ So I'm torn. Get out the pothos and scare him or leave it??? I don't know what to do!!!
Thanks this will help me, I just got a veiled chameleon last sunday. Should I get a hammock to make sure if they climb the square and fall they can just fall on the hammock?????
Congrats on the new chameleon. A hammock isn’t necessary. I’d just be sure to have the enclosure set up properly and provide lots of branches and live plants.
I think my female is preparing to lay her eggs and I'm sooo scared. I have a big laying bin for her but she doesn't visit it. Maybe I should put towels around her enclosure? So she doesn't see me and others and is relaxed?
Have you seen my video on egg laying? th-cam.com/video/Dy6sIPvNGUw/w-d-xo.html It can take awhile for them to actually lay the eggs after starting to show signs.
@@NeptunetheChameleon yes yes i watched it and i think she's going to lay eggs soon. Cause she eats almost nothing and climbs all over the terrarium. Should I cover the enclosure? With towels?
No stores around me had the correct linear lighting I wanted so I have to order them online. They also didn’t have a bigger enclosure than the ones that comes with the infamous “chameleon kit” so as of now I’m using those compact lights but I do absolutely plan on getting a 2x2x4 enclosure and getting linear lights to go with those. but my chameleon is staying extremely close to the light on the screen. I think it’s a combination on all these reasons since she is new, but how long would you say i could use these compact lights before it would begin to cause issues? The 2x2x4 cage I want is on sale for 100$ for I wanted to grab that first before the price goes up again then get the linear lights once I have the right sized cage ( the linear lights will be way to big for my current enclosure) I know the compact uvb will be better than nothing in the meantime but I just don’t want to give her inadequate lighting for too long
I would prioritize getting the correct UVB and enclosure and would not go more than a couple weeks with the incorrect supplies. I do have quite a few discounts at different online reptile suppliers that will help you save some money so please take advantage: linktr.ee/NeptuneTheChameleon

88 is a bit toasty for a juvenille chameleon. I would make sure they have a basking branch that is close enough. Also make sure they have lots of other horizontal branches to climb and places to hide.
So i got a chameleon butbi got the wrong size i got a 24by18by36 so i got the t8 and my mom said in a couple months we will get a new enclosure and the correct uvb hes going to bebin there for about 5-6 more months and i got the t8 because the t5 is made for 48 in tall enclousers so we are going to get him a bigger enclosure with all the correct stuff

How high above the screen should I put my UVB and basking lamp if I am getting a 3 month old chameleon? People have told me to raise the lights at least 15cm (6 in) above the screen to avoid burns.
Hmmmm lots of factors go into that. For heat, it depends on the temps you're able to produce. This video should help with that: th-cam.com/video/7govEIUlM24/w-d-xo.html. As far as UVB goes, as long as you're using a T5 5.0/6% in a single bulb fixture, then you should not have any issues burning your chameleon and would be fine to put the fixture directly on the cage. Here is my video about UVB, th-cam.com/video/5RVjgaLsWn8/w-d-xo.html and here are two other great resources one of which, goes into the different distance placements of UVB: chameleonacademy.com/uvb/ & chameleonacademy.com/basics-uvb-for-chameleons/

I do not have a video about that. But I would make sure that your enclosure is set up correctly (th-cam.com/video/n2H-VubFs3A/w-d-xo.html) and then reach out to a vet if it doesn't improve.
What if I have a baby female chameleon, what does it mean if it starts climbing the screen. I’ve had her far about two weeks. And she’s about 3 or 4 weeks old
Could be any of the reasons I mention in the video 😅 I'd make sure she has plenty of plants and branches to climb on and feel safe. Add more than you think you need. It should be hard to find her in her enclosure.
Hard to really say anything without more information or a picture. It would be helpful to look up different pictures of the type of chameleon you have to see if it is part of their natural coloring. Or perhaps it is a bruise or thermal burn.
I took your advice and replaced my uvb light with a linear one but it has not stopped my chameleon from hanging upside down, although he does it a little less often now. It has lost 4 nails which is a bummer so we always take it out and let it crawl around on the couch when we see it up there. Now my problem is that he is not eating for 4 days now. He acts normal and his colors are normal but does not even look at his food. Any advice?
Hmm does he have branches that are close enough for him to get the correct UVB? Enough hiding places? Horizontal branches? How long have you had him? Make sure the bugs are moving around.
@@NeptunetheChameleon I want to say yes to all of the above. He has a branch about 4 inches below the light and I have added 3 more vines around the cage for him to move around (small cage). We bought him in March and he was between 4 and 6 months at that time. I have tried having him sit above a container of crickets, roaches and wax worms. I have tried feeding him from my hand and with tongs. I will say that I stopped using the basking light when it got warm, it gets 75 degrees without it during the day and he is a rainbow Jackson's so I was told he doesnt need it as warm. Maybe there is a problem there?..
I would try cup feeding so you can give him privacy. Here is video about that: th-cam.com/video/xMxME5TPcVs/w-d-xo.html Below are the appropriate temps for a Jackson's chameleon as mentioned in this video: th-cam.com/video/7govEIUlM24/w-d-xo.html Ambient Temperature Baby/Juvenile: 70-75F / 21-23C Adult Male: 70-80F / 21-26C Adult Female: 70-80F / 21-26C Basking Temperature Baby/Juvenile: 75-80F / 23-26C Adult Male: 82-85F / 29C Adult Female: 82-85F / 29C
@@NeptunetheChameleon Ok thank you! Good news, he finally ate again on day 5! I had stopped feeding him crickets for about the last month because I was sick of half of them dying on me. Out of desperation I went ahead and bought somemore medium crickets and let a few go in his cage. He gobbled them up.
Ah yes. Classic picky chameleon. If you do decide to try and get him off of crickets, you'll have to hold out much longer than 5 days. Neptune got hooked on superworms a while back so I stopped offering them to him. He went 2 weeks before finally eating his dubia roaches. As long as they are offered an alternative food source, a chameleon won't starve themselves.
hi!! i love your videos it has helped me so much to make sure my chameleon has a healthy, long life! but i have a question! for example, we have a hurricane and we lose power and cant have the lights on? what should we do then?
I’d have a generator to help run the lights but if it’s only a couple days without power your chameleons should be fine as long as it doesn’t get too cold. If the weather is decent you can take them outside for natural UVB.
Hi I just got a 1 year old chameleon and I think he might be climbing because he's looking for a mate ! How long does this behavior last and when should I start worrying ?
If you just got them, odds are they are climbing the screen because they are exploring their new home. Make sure you're providing the right kind of UVB, heat, as well as lots of branches and plants.
Chameleons should be able to shed on their own without any human interference. I made a video all about shedding that you might find helpful: th-cam.com/video/0zoEZrW83mQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi I have a new Wild giant spiny chameleon she has the large screen cage she has been sleeping in the branches then I made a natural grapevine structure …. And she’s been fine with it for 2-3 days now today she started climbing and just hanging out on the screen all day I took her outside 2 times and she in the same spot on back wall at the top sleeping?? So I’m hoping it is just egg laying time … I bought her at a reptile show that broke my heart how they are kept in small plastic containers and they can’t move… 😫😭so I had to get her out of there but the guy said he only had her for 2 weeks and she was from the wild😩… thanks for the videos
I have a pandorium 36x36x18 and using a 5.0 uvb my neter shows the correct reading at 7 inches should i up the bulb to 10.0 ? Last is do they have to lay eggs is it necessary for me to buy a male what are your thoughts. Thx
What reading are you getting at 7 inches? What kind of meter are you using to measure? Females will lay infertile eggs without any male contact, similarly to chickens. It is not necessary to buy a male chameleon.
Sounds like you're good sticking with the 5.0. And yes you should provide her a laying bin inside. Here is a great resource to learn more about chameleon egg laying: www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/egg-laying-and-the-laying-bin.345/
I so wish I could talk to you because my female panther is acting strange and I’ve done so much to make sure everything is correct and she’s still screen climbing. I’m worried about losing her to stress.
@@NeptunetheChameleon she doesn’t currently but today I have purchased everything I need to set it up. The other concern I have is she’s now sleeping during the day. I know sleeping during the day is a sign of sickness or possible death. A few days ago she fell off of her pothos in my shower. I tried to catch her but wasn’t fast enough. I took her to our reptile vet and she had no broken bones but a bruise on her side. Ever since she’s been acting strange. I’m just freaking out because I don’t want to lose her.
Mine is fine and content in his cage until he sees me and then he's walking the screen. Addressed these to see if it's why he's screen walking. He still does it whenever he sees me and is only willing to go back in once I've held him for at least 30 minutes
Thanks a lot for this video, I just got my Jackson Chamaleon 3 days ago, and your channel is helping me to understand and be a better parent for my chamaleon, I would like to know if during it’s shedding is normal for him to stop eating for a day or two or if there is something wrong? Thanks a lot again ♥️
Congrats on the new chameleon! Decreased appetite is normal during shedding. It’s also very common for chameleons to not eat much as they get settled into their new homes. Make sure to give him time and privacy to get adjusted.

Here is video about that: th-cam.com/video/xMxME5TPcVs/w-d-xo.html

Make sure you're providing the right kind of UVB, heat, as well as lots of branches and plants.
where do we get the long uvb

I got my chameleon and it looks like he has a layer of old she’s on Both of his sides how do I get rid of it

Chameleons should be able to shed on their own without any human interference. I made a video all about shedding that you might find helpful: th-cam.com/video/0zoEZrW83mQ/w-d-xo.html
Neptune the Chameleon thank you
We just got our vield chameleon mango and he is just chiling in the front of the enclosure
Congrats on the new chameleon!
Mine is doing good she hangs out in the middle, I'm planning to make new cages for my bearded dragon and chameleon
Awesome! Be sure to check out my cage build video: th-cam.com/video/n2H-VubFs3A/w-d-xo.html

@@NeptunetheChameleon 3.3 to 3.5. Im using 6.5 index
Should i a laying bin inside her tank?
Sounds like you're good sticking with the 5.0. And yes you should provide her a laying bin inside. Here is a great resource to learn more about chameleon egg laying: www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/egg-laying-and-the-laying-bin.345/
@@NeptunetheChameleon great thankyou for the info
I so wish I could talk to you because my female panther is acting strange and I’ve done so much to make sure everything is correct and she’s still screen climbing. I’m worried about losing her to stress.
Do you have a laying bin ready for her in her enclosure?
@@NeptunetheChameleon she doesn’t currently but today I have purchased everything I need to set it up. The other concern I have is she’s now sleeping during the day. I know sleeping during the day is a sign of sickness or possible death. A few days ago she fell off of her pothos in my shower. I tried to catch her but wasn’t fast enough. I took her to our reptile vet and she had no broken bones but a bruise on her side. Ever since she’s been acting strange. I’m just freaking out because I don’t want to lose her.
Could it be that maybe they are just exploring around
Certainly!! But we want to discourage screen climbing since it puts them at risk for burning themselves and ripping out their nails.
Mine is fine and content in his cage until he sees me and then he's walking the screen. Addressed these to see if it's why he's screen walking. He still does it whenever he sees me and is only willing to go back in once I've held him for at least 30 minutes
I think he’s probably looking for a mate 👀
When are you going to make a parson Chameleon care video.
Once I have more experience keeping them, and have been able to talk to more keepers about how they take care of theirs.
I have an adult male veiled who's rubbed his nose raw
Oh nooo :(
Thanks a lot for this video, I just got my Jackson Chamaleon 3 days ago, and your channel is helping me to understand and be a better parent for my chamaleon, I would like to know if during it’s shedding is normal for him to stop eating for a day or two or if there is something wrong? Thanks a lot again ♥️
Congrats on the new chameleon! Decreased appetite is normal during shedding. It’s also very common for chameleons to not eat much as they get settled into their new homes. Make sure to give him time and privacy to get adjusted.
Neptune the Chameleon thanks you so much for answering! I’m a big fan of your channel, I’ve just been close to him to feed him and cleaning the enclosure, I’m trying my best to not disturb him. Thanks a lot! I was scared because I really love him.
Thanks for supporting the channel! Good luck with your new chameleon :)
Thank you, super helpful my cham has been climbing on the screen all over!
Now I think its because he's looking for a mate. Thanks for the info!
Glad it helped!
No bamboo! Causes splinters
Nice video
Thank you!

Hi! (This isn't relevant to the video) however i want to ask, my baby veiled chameleon has been getting some white crust inside and outside of his nose is this something i should worry about? Should i take him to the vet? Thanks.
From what I've heard, it's salt being excreted and isn't cause for concern.
@@NeptunetheChameleon ah okay, thank you :)
Ohhh my b
I don’t hear you mention anything about the mesh filtering out 50% of the uvb reaching the Cham, I just think it’s an important point to make others aware of!
I talk about that in my UVB video :)
First also hi I have a veiled chameleon
