Great information for anyone starting out! I only wish I knew where to find the Chameleon Academy when I started out. Actually I guess I would have been looking for the Chameleon Breeder back then...lol😉

I have an issue with my male panther 8-9 months old, every time I open the cage to feed him or do anything with the door open he usually tries to bolt out of the cage. Im fairly confident the husbandry is on point. I do have a vine outside his cage that I sometimes let him hangout on but it’s at the point where it’s ridiculous, I can’t open the cage without him trying to run out.

What does he do once he is out of the cage? Just let him go once (safely of course) and see where he wants to go. It may offer clues as to what is going on inside his mind. Maybe he sees an area he thinks he would like better. Maybe he has learned you are the food bringing and he thinks by going toward you it will generate a dubia for him to eat. Now is the fun part of getting to know your chameleon as an individual and see what he likes!

@@ChameleonAcademy he just chills on the vine and sits on the shelving up high. He really doesn’t do much! I believe he just want to be as high up as possible. His cage is raised and he has the opportunity to be taller than me while at the top of his cage. But there are just taller options outside

It is normal for activity to settle down after the first 24 or 48 hours of exploring the new home
