Absolutely beautiful work Div, from the widened wheels to the cutting jig. I'm with you on the color, black wheels with chrome caps would look good.👌👍🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
Impressive, as always. They are making some nice looking chrome paints these days. But, I think the black and chrome caps will look sweet, too. Wheels take such a beating from rocks and stuff. Maybe powder coat them for durability.
Amazing work 👏 I really think the black rims with chrome hubcaps would look great. If the wife says yellow, then I would do yellow rims and paint the hubcaps black. Just always remember, happy wife happy life. Cheers 🍻.
I know it would probably cost a fortune, but a full chrome plated wheel would look killer! Aside from chrome a black or dark gun metal grey wheel with a chrome beauty ring and hub cap would definitely feel Era correct!
great video man, we used to do that years ago for grass track racing with beetles but also reduced the rim using 13 inch rims and beetle centers for better gearing. jook up hot rod racing ireland from the 80s in wexford on you tube we used all sorts of engines from 4 cyl fords fiats lancias to rover v 8s on vw bus gearboxs, great times.matt ireland.
Keep up the awesome work my friend ,projects keep us young at heart, amazing little car, love it!thanks for the quality entertainment and how too ,awesome just awesome
Green wheels. Reminiscent of a bunch of flowers. Might earn you some brownie points? Great content as always. I’ve been watching for ages but never comment. I’m always impressed with what you do.
Div, I commend you on your clever grinding fixture. Well-worth the effort to ensure a straight cut! I'm not really a fan of black wheels (even with the chrome caps) because in my opinion, they kind of blend in with the tires- no contrast. If you want a bit of contrast to show the rims without being overbearing, I like using a graphite or gunmetal colour. Just enough to separate the rim from the tire. Cheers from Canada!
Great vid ,,, really enjoyed it ,, I've done 100's of rims myself from banding to changing centers .. So getting to see someone else do it is always a joy ,, One little tip you may have not thought about , when doing rims ,, after they are welded and before paint I throw them on the wheel balancer and weld weight on the inside to balance the rim .... then when you install the tires you're only having to balance the tires ,, not the rim and the tires where in some cases can add alot of weight especially when doing large truck tires and rims .. factory rims are never straight or "true" I've seen so prity out of balance rims over the years common to see 2 or 3 ounces out ... & congrats on the channel i've been here since around 11,000 subs ,, and it's been awsome to see the channel grow soon to be 30,000 ! & a shout out to barefoot ,, lol
P.s What colors the car going to be ? I seen someone down below posted cream for those rims ,, i'd agree with that ,, but dude red with chrome hub caps and some trim rings ,,, sexy sexy ,, lol
I like gloss black with an outer rim yellow, and chrome hubcaps of course. Maybe detail the VW in the cap with yellow paint. Great job as always. You make my Wednesdays and Sundays. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks.
Hey Div, I agree with the observation about getting old. We still look at old people the same way but it’s this old people in the mirror that get to us.
In the 60's in the U.S.A. we used to make Punched wheels by just turning the centers around and the deeper part of the wheel would be on the outside , they were very cool in the day . Nice job !
Back in the olden days😊 the shop I worked at two toned the VW wheels. Body color on the outer rim and a lighter shade on the inner part. Looked real nice. I like the cutting / welding jig! Thanks from chilly Wisconsin! 18' F right now!😢
You did a great job on the rims. I hope the Mrs. agrees with you on the black color!! It will look fantastic with the VW hub caps, we call them hub caps too here in the US, thanks for another outstanding video!!
Your grinding contraption reminds me of my whitewall contraption. I made a similar grinder mount to take thin stripe whitewalls and white letter tires and turn them into wide whitewalls! Forest engineering - even in the city! Great job Div!
Back in the early 90s I worked at a dealership and they would pay this old man to do that. He had a factory made contraption and he'd do it for $10 a tire.
Love this project for the wife. Would be more interesting and comfortable to drive if you make it a two door. Reshape under the front hood to be more user friendly for groceries. I would love to see that conversation.🙏🙏
Hey Diff. WOW, you never cease to amaze me. You can do anything to assist you. I wish I had the same insight that you have. That is a great new tool that you made. Those rims turned out fantastic. I would paint them flat black if it was me. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
You should definitely get a patent for it, I could see a lot of people wanting to buy one for everything from hotrods to swamp buggys, great for (sleeper cars) to get wide tires on the rear without looking like a car that has been souped up for going fast, would look like plain old factory steel rims until you could see it from behind as it passes you!
Just gave me an idea for the rear rims for my 73 Charger, keep the look of the old skool steel rims with beauty rings and the dog dish hubcaps and still have some nice wide tires on the rear without spending a small fortune, thank you and hope your wife goes with black with chrome hubcaps, nice work sir
A clean white wil reflecte nice from the hubcaps and make the wheels appear a bit bigger it wil also show of more of the craftsmanship by attracting more attention
The car is yellow paint the wheels and matte Tan with the chrome hubcaps and the seats Tan as well. It's different not the same thing as everyone else but the wife is the final word either way the wheels look great.Take care Buddy.
@@genarogarcia1087 thank you. I know Div is always saying they drive in dirt all of the time dirt just sticks to black Tan not only looks good it doesn't show the dirt and the details of the wheels will really pop.match the interior and it's a win
One guy I watch from Nova Scotia uses coat hangers to fill in gaps in metal, metal ones although they are hard to find in this area. There are plenty of plastic ones in all sorts of colors 😂⚡️
The "contraption" painted blue. That, my friend, is going the extra mile. Love it! The Renault 4 was my parents first car. Wheels black because yellow and black are Renault's colors but hey, if the wife want them pink....pink it is!😁
Black and chrome hubcaps will look great.
I agree. Black and chrome like they appear to be now.
👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely beautiful work Div, from the widened wheels to the cutting jig. I'm with you on the color, black wheels with chrome caps would look good.👌👍🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Love it. I like black with the crhome hubcaps and chrome lip as well
Ty cool 😎
Paint them a metallic charcoal colour. It will go great with the chrome hubcap.
With the yellow pinstripe as has been suggested.
Yep black with a yellow pin strip. You can set up your contraption to achieve this. Be bloody awesome
Is there anything you can't do with metal? Simply amazing I'm so in awe and deeply impressed. Always a pleasure to watch you create.
Thank you!
Black with a yellow pin stripe around the outside edge of the rims 👍👍
I can picture in my mind exactly how that would and man I love it with those chrome hub caps
Black with chrome cap.. and an yellow pin strip would look sweet
Impressive, as always. They are making some nice looking chrome paints these days. But, I think the black and chrome caps will look sweet, too. Wheels take such a beating from rocks and stuff. Maybe powder coat them for durability.
Like the idea of a cream on the rims
I like silver for steel wheels. Enjoyed the tutorial!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Clever! And you make it look so easy! Really nice work.
I think White wheels would look nice on that Yellow RenauBug with the chrome caps
Your fabrication skills are a joy to watch. Thank you for your continued dedication to this channel.
Thank you, glad you are enjoying it! Its comments like yours that keep me going🙂
Beauty ring's and hub caps.
Amazing work 👏 I really think the black rims with chrome hubcaps would look great. If the wife says yellow, then I would do yellow rims and paint the hubcaps black. Just always remember, happy wife happy life. Cheers 🍻.
same way we did it to our beach buggies back in the 70's & 80's, good job mate, I vote for cream painted rims 😀
Cream would look nice and retro...
You got it outside black with that hub cap will look good, true fabricator have a good one brotha
Filler and some chrome from the beauty salon for the rings & gunmetal for the flats~
Very handy jig Boet, and yet again explained well enough that I even understood your plan. Have a lekka one Div
As far as rim colour goes whatever the wife chooses is the best. Nice job
Black with yellow stripe. Great job.
Black with chrome. What a good job. Lot of work, passes time nicely.
I know it would probably cost a fortune, but a full chrome plated wheel would look killer! Aside from chrome a black or dark gun metal grey wheel with a chrome beauty ring and hub cap would definitely feel Era correct!

Very, very good video, got me the courage to widen my steel rims my self. Great contraption by the way!
Thank you very much! Good luck!
Wednesday just can't start without the latest episode of the Renaubug.
Keep up the awesome work my friend ,projects keep us young at heart, amazing little car, love it!thanks for the quality entertainment and how too ,awesome just awesome

Fantastic
Black would look good, but so would yellow. Nice job!
You are awesome best channel on TH-cam keep it coming
Thanks!!
My uncle took the centers out of his original rims and put them into the wide rims of his choice from the junkyard for his van, they worked great
Your learning all the time, Young Man, keep it straight and flush, You are so talented, right on.
Diff, awesome job on the rims! color pick by the wife is up to her.PS. a machine shop couldn't have done any better than you, my Brother!
Thanks !👍

Good call on the welded pre balance. I'm gonna keep that in mind.
Thanks! Good idea with the balancing, wish I had one...
It will stay that yellow color
Gloss black wheels with the chrome hubcaps would look nice. Outstanding job on showing us how you widened the wheels. Great job.
That was so cool to watch
Nice job looks great
Thanks 👍
Midnight blue
Definitely black, with chrome caps, just my opinion will look the best
Hubcaps is the right word on this side of the world, too. USA 🇺🇸 and Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Love your work.
Thanks!

Great job, I think black rims with a yellow pin strip. You could use your wheel stand and a pin stripping brush to paint the stripe.

Very nice I banded the same wheels so I can run my hubcaps on my rail buggy looks great ❤
Awesome contraption Diff! Excellent forest engineering.
Thank you very much!
Excellent job Diff,I realise its expensive, but chrome with chrome hub caps would give it a "Smoothie" look.

Awesome job. Making me want to do my own for my Karmann Ghia. Cream color, off white-ish is what I would pick if I was doing it.
Your cutting jig is pure genius. Well done, sir.
Thank you very much!
I think silver looks pretty clean on the steel wheels with caps.
Black with the center caps and a narrow beauty Ring would look great with the yellow car👍👍👍
Very nice work Mr Diff.
I really enjoyed this episode.
Keep up the good work.

Great video. Excited to view more of your library.

Nice work Div, the jig you built really works great 👍. Take care Boet and stay safe. 👍

I can see you worked hard on the whole project Diff. GREAT JOB

Brilliant ! Very motivational. All doable with basic metalworking tools. Thank you.

Best video yet on banding. I’m trying it myself for my awd falcon. Thanks for the help.

Black with yellow pin stripes. This video helped me . I have 74 super beetle that I want wider rims but want to keep the stock look. Perfect!

That looks awesome bro. Well done. Thank you for sharing. "BLACK, with chrome hub cap." Thank you for sharing
Never can go wrong with Black! Have to do the same job in a couple of month for the Mercury Comet! Thanks Div.
Great job. Love your video's. Learn so much. Wheels black with chrome hubcaps.
Thanks

Either black or white for the rims, both look good.
Black and Chrome
Cool vid to watch, great to see an option, not that I would do anytime soon, it above my diy skill😂😅❤
yellow would look really good especially with white walls and the hub caps a really vintage look to match the car
Silver wheels💚🇬🇧🌱 looking good dude🤙
Excellent job on the rims. your wheel cutting jig is top notch. I learned a whole lot as usual on your videos. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Id do the same thing with those wheels. Excellent work.
