A hat tip to you sir!!! I just watched you do the work of at least 5 highly skilled people. Engineer/Welder/Machinist/Electrician/Machine Assembly and operator. As a retired machinist and machine assembler I truly enjoyed your video!
Very genius build. It gives me ideas for fabricating snow/all terrain tracks for vehicles, atv’s, and utv’s. Thank you for getting the gears turning even faster in my head.
It seems to be very essential for a certain sort of automobilistics drive on widened slics to show all guys what sort of helldriver you are, but great compliment to the constructor 👏
Not only a brilliant display of expertise but also this Gentleman engineering understanding is second to none , congratulations to Sir I loved the concept with the added accessories , a magnificent video ....Thank you for sharing your Idea
Impressive. :) I like the approach to the problem. Where I used to work we had weld tables to weld round objects. I've done hundreds of setups on this machine so the workers could weld all kinds of stuff on it.
Back in the 70's, I did work for a company that manufactured RV's in Los Angeles. They modified small import pick-up trucks. They needed wider tires for the back, they did exactly what you saw in the video. I don't recall the machine that cut the rim all that complicated though. It seemed they cut the wheel on a lathe, didn't use a cut-off disk like in the video. They then welded a section of pipe in, I don't recall what kind of welder, believe it was a MIG welder though. Apparently the wheel size they needed was not commercially manufactured, they needed them, they built them. Jim
Impressive work. You obviously put a lot thought into the design, and as others have mentioned not a CNC machine in sight. Very well engineered and very enjoyable watching the process. 👍
Excellent workmanship! Sure beats the way we did Ford wide 5 lugs back in the '50's/'60's for early "stock cars". We used an old brake drum lathe with a center section of"37 Ford rear hub. Accurate enough for "circle burners".
Cutting off the back side of another rim to replace the front, for widening & looks, was popular back then, the welding was not nearly as nice. Being able to cut down to the center piece with the cutoff wheel and being able to center the addition on the center piece is a BIG help.
Hi from Japan. The playful tolerance of motorcycles and buggies produces high-level fixtures, and we respond with gratitude. The wheel that I was able to see today was the author, and a lot of your ideas and wisdom were put into it. Have a nice day. Greetings. Follow/🔔~
really like this project. Thanks for sharing. I often thought about buidling something like this as well. One reason was to also straighten bent wheel rims, as well as to produce round parts like pressure tanks. Now to find a good spot in the workshop to store this fixture !
Way back in the early 1970's I had a set of wheels widened by cutting and inserting a band. This was in Launceston, Tasmania - the shop that did it was very busy as most wheels back then were for tubed tyres and 4.5" rim width, with most cars having huge distance from the body to the rim. The car enthusiasts all wanted 6.5 - 7.0 inch rims and the tyres for that were all tubeless, so the welding job had to be good. Not sure what kind of equipment the shop used, but the results were perfect. It's no longer legal to run wheels widened this way in Australia.
Wonderful. I had a pair of OEM polished aluminum Ford wheels from my 2012 Mustane widened by a craftsman in Michigan. I don't know how HE did it, but it came out very well. 8" wheels became 10" wheels, yet looked STOCK. Same idea. Props on an easy-to-understand and well-thought-out build.
You're pretty damn handy, lol! I'm also pretty sure you did a better job than the factory did when they made that wheel. Only thing I would have done is made the wheel wider if I was going to go to all that work. Good job, Man!
My son had to make a couple of wheels wider one time. We just cut a plate on the cnc to mount the wheel to an engine stand and one person held the plasma cutter and the other rotated the wheel. Of course it was not DOT approved for highway use. It was just for a 1500 hp pulling truck. That was some nice looking welds.
Just one of the things that makes this such a great channel is it teaches processes w/o saying anything, and shows people that they can do things they wouldn't have tried before. Anyway, thanks for another amazing build/video. One day I hope your time/effort ends up being noticed by someone so you'll benefit. God bless.
Amazing to watch. If you're already on the lathe for heavy duty work I would bevel the two welding surfaces about half way down, you still get half of the flat surface for alignment & much stronger welds that can be ground flat & retain strength due to the root
Well if I ever feel the need to band some wheels for a project I'm sure I'll look at this again . Awesome work well thought out and so perfect for the task . Thanks for sharing and making me jealous lol .
Being said that it is an outstanding work and i have enjoyed watching his performing a lot. Thanks 👏 I have to point that making wider change all the physics, stress, tensión so as the rims shoulg had to be reinforced as new loads have to be contemplated, and i would not rely my life driving a car to its limits with that wheel, neverthelesd again a fantastic lesson on machinery. 👍
really well done. I've seen a lot of shit on TH-cam so it's refreshing to see someone who has actual skills. you'll get a lot of good use out of that jig
2:30 Hole spacing is measured with a digital gauge by measuring the diameter of one hole, zeroing the measurement and measuring the hole spacing between the outside tangents of the two holes. The cut-out is the size of the centers of the two holes 🙂
Interesting fabrication build of a tool to do more fabrication. I can see its use in certain shops that deal with wheels regularly needing modification. I couldn't use it personally, but I did like the process and final build.
Overall, this is a highly informative and enjoyable video for anyone interested in engineering. It showcases your talent and expertise while providing valuable insights and inspiration to fellow enthusiasts. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to watching more of your content in the future 👍👍👍
Wonderful. I think you can synchronize the rotation using the wire speed rate on your welder. I bet you could figure that out! Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
This thing is awesome. For the price of the steel it saves so much more in cost over time when making your own wide wheels for 44 inch tires or the like on the pre runners or even just the mud bigger. Don't let me forget the racing wheels that you can make now...
That was absolutely awesome!!! You're one heck of a fabricator. There use to be a tire shop in Hickory,NC that actually use to offer this service; but, That was many years ago and they no longer offer that specialized service sadly anymore. Keep up the good work!!! J.C.
Hello and thanks for the inspiring vid. Your workshop seems to be well equiped. Wouldn't mind shedding some light on the welding and drilling machine ( brand, type, capacities, ...).
Very nice, i narrowed some wheels by mounting my grinder to the arm of a tire changer, and i just welded them by hand, you can go into business with your machine.
It is obvious that he has a very large stockpile or access to a junk yard to pick free metal from. Most of us home weekend warriors don't have access to this stuff even remotely think about making such an immaculate contraption.

As a 69 year old mechanic, machinist, welder,ie Fabricator I admire this ingenuity. Simple, inexpensive & accurate.
A wonderful example of basic fabrication skills honed by years of practice and a joy to watch. Unfortunately seen very little anymore

I've literally no idea why you would want to do this, but extremely impressive! Bravo!

I’m 73 , we were cutting rims n widening them in the 60s . Looks like the idea matured. steel wheels are preferred in certain applications . Good job
Impressive. :)

A true metalworks craftsman! Just simply OUTSTANDING!
Badass
Learning how to widen a rim is one thing. Knowing how make the machine is another and seeing both happen is believing. Kudos 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

Have to admit, thats a tool ill never need and a process Ill never desire for my car. Yet I respect the craftsmanship and technique to make it happen.
Great build friend!! This is the kind of skill industries were built from!!

Wow amazing. I used metal hacksaw machines in the 70s. The blades were often breakin tho.
The company made roller shutter doors.

What is wrong with his 2-second method? I don't even understand what you wrote makes zero sense.
Absolutely first class video. Thoroughly enjoyed watching from start to finish. Excellent 👍
Every single post you have made is impressive. I remember the first shop and the things you made in. You should be very proud of yourself.
You sir are a badass thinkeradoodicator genius lol very well done, never would have thought of that myself, that is why I subscribed to this site.
Thank you 😁
What an excellent piece of engineering all 'round. Respect!!
Nicely done! Nothing more satisfying than doing it yourself
Thank you 😁
This is how we widened wheels when I worked for Tacoma Wheels, back in the 1960's. Still works!
is the structure of the wheel compromised?
@@Moose254 I never heard of a failure.
Now that's how you make a machine to make your job easier very accurate from what I can say
Уважаемый друг коллега Вы большой мастер СНАЙПЕР в точности и акуратности в своей работе. Вам дальнейших успехов .. все очень грамотно
Not many videos impress me…this one does. Great job
