    I make my own alcohol inks like this too, just a wee tip, if you look on eBay, Amazon, AliExpress etc you can buy titanium balls for body piercing jewellery. They make great mixing beads for the bottles, fit the opening perfectly, dont rust, are reusable as they wash completely clean and they're really cheap. Everyone has their own way but just wanted to share my way with you. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.

    Do you have some set ratio of pigment to alcohol? What determines if a pigment is translucent or opaque? In case you don't know, you can purchase the little steel balls that are used for mixers in nail polish bottles. I got mine on amazon, cheaply. bag of a hundered for just a few bucks. Thanks.

    • @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine
      @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      None of them will be opaque, they are essentially inks now. But some will be brighter than others. No set ratios at the moment. I will be uploading a video tomorrow using them, so I will know more then. Keep your eye out for the video. Thank u for the ball info

  • @rmyersperry1
    @rmyersperry1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Are you using a binding solution when making these or do these pigments bind with water? I would like to create these for an alcohol ink project and normally a binding solution would be needed to keep the powder from breaking down. I have listened several times to the video and I haven't heard anything mentioned. Thank you in advance. Great work!

    • @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine
      @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did not , I only used the pigments and alcohol, I am not a AI pro, I just dabble a bit. The pigments I used are from Colourarte, and the are in the RezinArte line, so I know they have a proprietary wetting agent on them already so they kind of just melt into resin. She does however carry a Primary element line that would dissolve with water. But when I use these inks that I made, I have to shake them well because the mica settles at the bottom. Hope this helps a bit, like I said, I dont know alot about alcohol inks, just learning and experimenting myself.

    Can you show what the spray looks like on paper? Sometimes DIY looks really pigmented in the bottle, but really blah when used... love your nails. PS. Don’t use pebbles. Rocks have different elements in them that may break down in alcohol and ruin the color. Ex: Calcium carbonate. Unless you’re into geology... than go for it gurl and you do you! They do make the lil beads for nail polish for dirt cheap though. Might be easier... just sayen.

  • @PinkPoodleCrafts
    @PinkPoodleCrafts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The only problem with mica pigments is, without a binder, they are going to rub right off once the alcohol is dry on whatever surface you use. With the Tim Holtz Alcohol ink pearls, they use some sort of resin binder in with the alcohol so the mica doesnt rub away once the paper is dry. Some of the color might remain but the shimmer wont. But if you seal it right away with a spray sealer, you can maybe keep the integrity of the shimmers :)

    • @PinkPoodleCrafts
      @PinkPoodleCrafts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      and i just realized you do a lot of resin art... lol in that case you wont have to worry about it. But for use on paper, by itself, you would need a sealant for the mica not to flake off.

    Alcohol ink, spray whatever you call it. Ink based on alcohol is as old as the street.
    I can make you gallons for pennies on the dollar with the cheapest paint, some demi water and a solvent. Legit with all this extra nonsense? Go ahead and google around a bit you'll see buying it straight is cheaper then your diy cacophony here
