  • #154. Making Sinker Alcohol Ink! The Latest BREAKTHROUGH For RESIN ART?!!
    Hi all,
    All product links are further down 😊 ⬇️
    Here's a video of how I experimented to create my own Sinker White Alcohol Ink, be sure to watch the whole vid as there have been some tweaks at the end for better results, I think this is the biggest breakthrough since Petri Art was first discovered, with cheap products, we can make our own inks which perform as good as any other. For many of us, it's much easier to stick with the products we are currently using, but this could be great as a backup or if the sinkers are not available in your location. If you would like a more in depth vid on the second method, let me know in the comments!
    As mentioned, the balances will differ depending on a few factors, resin viscosity, alcohol %, pigment paste used and acetone. I do not recommend mixing any chemicals unless you know it is safe to do so, I have researched this for you all, the method I am showing is safe, but wear your PPE!

      Is there a limit to the pigment/acetone ratio? It seems to me that the more pigment added the less "alcohol ink " needed to make the effect.

    Okay Daniel I am gonna watch this til the end. No click bait allowed plzzzzzzzz! Will be back after to comment again. Drink is ready, bathroom break taken. Let’s Gooooooo!
    Awesome job. You figured out the secret of alcohol with the acetone. All the pieces looked great. When I started with resin I was doing pours creating painting. I actually would flick water drops onto some of my pieces at the end for a certain added texture. As long as you don’t stir the water into the resin meaning mixing them up and, it’s not a lot of water the resin will cure fine. And the water will evaporate and leave those craters because the water is heavier than the resin. Sometimes I would wait until the resin was pretty thick and do this also for different effects. Resin is always teaching new things. Of course silicone on resin is interesting too. Thank you for sharing. This was fun.

    My guess is that the acetone is just breaking down whatever binder is used to hold the pigment particles together. Since it's a resin pigment and resin pigments are often pigment mixed with part A, this makes sense. See if you can find out what the raw pigment/s they used are, and if you can obtain them in their raw forms (probably a powder), and you can probably skip the need for acetone entierly! Might even be able to experiment using your own binders; maybe find one that helps it suspend in the alcohol better.
    I don't know anything for sure. But the limited knowledge I have on pigments, chemistry and acetone... It does make sense.

    Hi, thanks for sharing. Just a FYI: I’m not sure if everyone knows that the alcohol count/% whether it’s 99, 91, or 70 is the amount of alcohol to the amount of water/aqua. So when you use alcohol as an additive, or dilution, or to deduct water from, you have to take an account that you are adding water also. If you were going to add water anyway, add to 70% first to save money and use less water. With resin we all know that water is the enemy, so your best option is 99 or a light misting of 91% because the water will do what it did for him, come to the surface. Never use 70% with any resin product, it will affect finished product ;) Beautiful Results

    Great job with the acetone, I would never have thought to try that. Have you tried making alcohol inks with mica powder? I made mine with mica and 99.9% alcohol. It does work but I never tried to make a white sinker before. Also all the colours I made almost looked like they had very fine glitter in them which cant be used for all projects but still very pretty in the ones I used them for.

    • @daniel..cooper
      @daniel..cooper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I will be working on inks soon. Micas aren't really the same, I have used mica and made these but not as an ink as such.
